Written in a picture book format, this biography on our third president highlights the life and career of Thomas Jefferson. The author used a variety of paintings, drawings and funny illustrations to accompany the text. Important events that Jefferson influenced (writing the Declaration of Independence) along with interesting facts (sneaking rice out of Italy) keep the text focused on the facts yet, interesting enough for a read aloud. This would not be recommended as a libraries only book on Jefferson for the purpose of presidential research because of the lack of chapters and an index, however it would make a great supplement to a presidential collection. This is part of the "Getting To Know The U.S. Presidents" series. 2004, Children's Press/Scholastic, Ages 5 to 12.
