Most biographies and other novels focus merely on the fact that Thomas Jefferson was a master of law, but fail to realize the amazing scientific accomplishments he made. From Archeology, to Astronomy to Botany, Surveying, Paleontology, and Physics, Jefferson was surely an expert of the sciences. Through recording all data he found and writing several novels, many of Jefferson¿s discoveries and inventions have been preserved and have changed the way science is practiced all over the world. Also, in Thomas Jefferson: Statesman of Science, Silvio A. Bedini ensures the reader of the many mentors Jefferson had, the main ones being his systematic father and many astounding professors. Additionally, the reader is able to follow Jefferson through his college years and witness several of his other life experiences. Although one sees that Jefferson was drawn into politics at a very young age, he is constantly furthering his studies of science, and later says that ¿Science is my passion, politics my duty.¿ Bedini wrote this fascinating biography of Jefferson in order to make people realize that Jefferson was not only a talented politician, farmer, and lawyer, but also a remarkable scientist as well. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a variety of sciences, and who is concerned in learning some new things regarding a former United States president¿s life.
