Jace Wilson was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he witnessed the Blackwell brothers commit a brutal murder. He managed to escape these killers once, but if he is found again, there will be no second escape. The Blackwell brothers are known for their swift, ruthless, and flawless executions. Not even the authorities know who they are, only the destruction they leave behind. Believing that his best chance of survival is to be off the grid, Jace enters a wilderness survival program for troubled teens run by Ethan Serbin and his wife Allison. But once the Blackwell brothers know his location, not even the wilderness and a raging forest fire will stop their ruthless pursuit to eliminate the one person who can identify them. With great suspense, shocking twists, and lots of thrills, Those Who Wish Me Dead is another fantastic novel by Michael Koryta. Those Who Wish Me Dead is great for an evening of escapist entertainment. While there is a healthy amount of drama, suspense, and thrills, this book is a smooth and easy read. It is complex enough to keep the reader guessing, but not so deep as to require a tremendous amount of mental energy. It's the perfect book for setting aside obligations and losing oneself for a few hours of fighting for survival in the Montana wilderness. The characters in this book are excellent. Jace is immediately likable. He is a wonderful combination of self-doubt, courage, and initiative. Even though he shares the lead with several characters, Jace pretty much carries this book. While most of the remaining characters are trying to protect Jace, there is no forced sympathy or attempt to make the reader feel sorry for Jace. He's simply a very likable kid from the beginning, which lays the groundwork for building nice relationships between Jace and the other characters. Though all the protagonists are quite likable and well developed, the former hotshot, Hannah, is a gem. Her backstory is fantastic and adds a wonderful depth to the overall story. The villains are also well constructed, with multifaceted personalities and unique qualities that make them not only worthy opponents, but chilling characters. The setting for Those Who Wish Me Dead is awesome and is described with enough detail to capture the reader's imagination without bogging down the story. It's easy to visualize the beautiful mountains, the difficult terrains and the encroaching forest fire. Eventually, the setting becomes an integral part of the story, morphing into another character, which is on one hand a friend, but on the other hand a foe. Not many books truly surprise me, but this one did--as in jaw on the floor surprised. There are a couple of very well executed plot twists I never saw coming. Every year I impatiently wait for Michael Koryta's next book. While I wish he would write faster, I appreciate the time and care that is put into each story. Those Who Wish Me Dead is well research, carefully constructed, beautifully written, and very well executed. This is a solid story from start to finish that is simply fun to read and one I highly recommend. Review copy provided courtesy of Little, Brown, & Company

With only one review I was skeptical. But this book really does keep you on edge from beginning to end I read it in two days. Plus the descriptions of the mountain wilderness in Wyoming and Montana really make me want to see it. And I'm a beach person.

I tried the sample in my Nook and was intrigued by Koryta's fresh and easy to scan writing style (had to be a journalist once).  I bought the rest of the novel and was never disappointed on a single page as Koryta quickly drew up believable character that connected well and made me want to know more. The author's easy-going descriptions, sly humor, well-researched knowledge and ability to weave a fine plot into an even finer story left me as a new Michael Koryta fan.  I give "Those Who Wish Me Dead" unreserved high recommendations. A delightful pager if ever there was one.

This was on many "must read" lists from various sources and it did not disappoint! It held my interest throughout the book due to the well developed characters and story line. It was a page turner and you will love the twist at the end!

The sample caught my attention right away. I took a chance on Koryta, a new author to me, and bought "Those Who Would Kill Me," and hoped for at least a passing-fair story. It wasn't. It rocked the house from start to finish. Koryta writes with unassuming skill that makes flipping through each page faster and easier and more expectantly than the ones before. The character builds are quick but complete and clear the decks for mastrful plotting, chock full of lore and asides that fill in the story and make it a pure and simple joy to read. Michael Koryta has joined my list of must-read writers. "Those Who Would Kill Me" is red-hot and fiery-good!

This was my first book by this author...but not the last! Gorgeous prose, nail-biting action (literally), and believable characters make for a great read! If you like this author/book, I would recommend: the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child and the Trav McGee series by John D. MacDonald (dated but worth reading, for sure).

Liked this book very much. I will seek out this author in the future. One thing that made it so exciting was that I am very familiar with all the areas where the action took place, as well as having firefighting experience.

What story! I could hardly put it down, but it is so intense you need a break. The language is plain talk but he paints a visual picture that puts you in the place. Every chapter wants you to hurry on to the next. And in the end he fills in all the what happened. On to THE PROPHET more great reading.
