A murder every Saturday morning means trouble for Detective Paul Carter and his assistant Sgt. Mel Ouelette in the small city of Milltown. Though seemingly unrelated, notes left at the scenes mean it is a serial killer. Paul's brother Bib, a high school chemistry teacher, Bib's 14 year old daughter Mary and Mary's cousin Jake, a high school senior, come to Paul's rescue.

The story follows a timeline as Paul and Mel interrogate suspects, neighbors, family, community folk and victims. All this leads to seemingly dead-ends.

Bib recognizes the notes are based on the biblical book of Amos, Jake consults Madam Wisdom a psychic, and Mary recognizes a cryptogram within the notes. The Carter Family saves the day and the criminal is revealed.

About the Author

What a wonderful life! From chemistry teaching and research to teaching literature to studying theology to writing fiction. Mixed in, there were and are church workshops and committees. And, of course, a wonderful wife, amazing daughters, and talented grandchildren. Granddaughter Amelia is my cover designer.

The road has gone from a childhood in Maine to The University of New Hampshire (B.S.) to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Ph.D.) to University of Toledo (Professor Emeritus) to Trinity University in San Antonio TX (Faculty Without Rank) to the Arizona desert. Yes, from beginning to end the move is west and there is quite a temperature difference.

The results of this life have given this mystery novel a life following a book of short mysteries ("A Nice Trip") and a theology book of reflections and meditations on reconciliation ("Reflections on Reconciliation"). In the works is another theology book. Sorry, the chemistry text is out-of-print.
