If you take anything away from 'Through the Darkness,' it should be Mike Henle's ability to forge ahead with family and career while dealing with the daily burden of seizures. It shows us all that we can access the 'light' inside us ¿ even when it seems the entire world is engulfed in darkness. This book is about staying strong, staying dedicated to living the best we can, and most of all, sharing the light we have within us all.

I received Mike's book 'Through the Darkness' in the mail yesterday and couldn't put it down once I started reading it. It hit home so many times because I too suffered from epilepsy most of my life. Everyone should read this book, whether they have epilepsy or not. It's a book I plan on reading again and again and recommending to everyone I know.

Mike Henle graciously shares his slow dance with epilepsy. His book encourages the person with seizures, understands the fear of family and friends and describes a truly caring, as well as gifted, medical community. Above all Through The Darkness gives us all hope.

I have known 'Mad Dog' Mike Henle for more than 30 years, as a former sports writing colleague with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and, more importantly, as a dear friend. I have always admired his 'dogged' determination in tackling issues. This determination is so reflected in Mike's book. Henle shows how an aggressive 'don't-take-no-for-an-answer' persistence, combined with a wife's and family's love and support, and a faith in God can help overcome any obstacle, regardless how steep or severe the obstacle may be. I have two business associates who have read Mike's book. One associate passed it on to a neighbor who has a family member afflicted with epileptic seizures. Mike's book has given that person insight in the afffliction and more significantly hope in seeking a solution to their problem. The book is a great read and a great source of hope. Mike Henle's true story of his triumph in overcoming his illness is inspiring and motivational for all who suffer illness. I have know Mike for about twenty-five years and never knew he had and illness. I read this book in a couple of hours and felt an empowerment and hope to seek answers to my own health problems. His perseverance is inspiring and many should benefit from reading this book and never giving up hope.

We met Mike Henle two years ago and have always known him as a man with incredible energy and zest for life. Little did we know of the trials he had been through. Through the Darkness is an inspirational story written with an honest hand. Both my wife and I read it cover to cover in a matter of hours the story was so gripping. His story gives perspective on life.

I read Mike Henle¿s book ¿Through the Darkness¿ without ever wanting to lay it down. It is an amazing story of his life struggles. I have known Mike personally for a couple of years. I knew of him through his brother and had no idea of the magnitude of pain and agony he and his family went through with this debilitating disease. I am sure there are a lot of people out there that could gain insight into this disease from reading his book. I would recommend this book for very interesting and informative reading.

For a change, a true story that will offer hope to many. I had a friend who died young from this disease. This book should offer hope and inspiration for many who suffer from health problems that are PERCEIVED as lifetime afflictions. Mike's persistance with doctors, which led to his cure is a wonderful story, and serve as a lesson for all of us.

It's too easy to let others convince us we have no control over our physical well being. Mr. Henle very effectively reminds us that we can make a difference, that the right doctor can make a difference and that good health is physical, emotional and spiritual. An informative and uplifting read.

I knew Mike in Yuba City, we were good friends. I recently renewed that friendship and discovered the ordeal he went through. Not only is MIke my friend, but a brave and courageous individual. I have met some of Mikes family and he is truley blessed with a great support group. Good reading for anyone.

I ran into this gentleman/author through an epilepsy site on line...that is our common-epilepsy. One common led to another. I saw he had brain surgery back in the 90's, which was time before a lot of testing came out. He was also on a scary addictive drug that almost took my life. It can just tear apart lives if not caught in time. His seizures were trying to just control his life. I read all this on line and a brief talk on line with him, and then INSTANTLY had to buy this book after all the years of epileptic anguish I have been fighting. I couldn't imagine another soul having gone through it, and he did! This book is full of personal life stories, good and bad, from a bit of childhood through when they really were affecting him in his adulthood. Not only how he survived it, how his family and friends did too. It walks you through the gratitude he has toward his doctors. If you have this disorder, you make sure you have this same feeling toward your doctors. For if you don't, your epilepsy will never be on it's way to it's full recovery potential. If you are a doctor, this is your book to read and chance to have this same goal treating your patients the way his doctors did. Just that in itself is an 80% cure and your job will be priceless. He is a courageous epileptic (now seizure free-what a reward!!), ecstatic brain surgery patient, and exceptional author with the ability to share his whole life, everything...no embarrassment, no fear. Bravo! I couldn't put the book down, read the whole book from the moment I received, then ordered another for my own neurologist! Enjoy! Thank You Mr. Henle!

Like the author, I went through a crisis three years ago with open heart surgery for a bypass and a valve replacement along with the insertion of a pacemaker. I was very bitter when I found out that I needed surgery, and kept asking myself 'Why me Lord?' This feeling continued even after my surgery,in fact, even more so as I thought that life was unfair to me for having to go through all of this pain and suffering along with my permanent scars which discourages me from my previous love of swimming. I, too, reminisce of the wonderful hospital staff, that along with my wife saw me through these hard times. Every chapter of the book gave me the reassurance that I am not the only one who is blessed with a second chance in life. We know that, but it's good to be reminded to enjoy the simple things around us that the book emphasizes and which gives me the courage to go forward and appreciate from day to day.

Mr. Henle's amazing health experience is truly an inspiration to anyone who is lucky to read it. It shows how anyone can beat the odds if one does not give up.

An inspirational story of overcoming great odds, Mike Henle's personal victory of a courageous journey through brain surgery brings victory and hope to the reader. Henle portrays candidly his battle in a personal grapple with epilepsy and seizures. More importantly, his willingness to cast himself with vulnerability to the medical staff for a profound surgical procedure on his brain leaves the reader thoroughly enthralled. Mike's story covers every aspect of his journey and is highly educational. It should be prescribed reading for all seeking to have a higher understanding of those afflicted with a seizure disorder. That number is higher than the public has been made aware. -- Stephanie S. Sawyer, author and reviewer

My longtime friend and associate Mike Henle has given us the gift of a very personal and introspective book about his more than 30 year journey through life trying to understand and master a mysterious illness. It's a gift because Mike wrote it to encourage others never to give up on themselves; never lose hope that the answer will come with the next conversation with someone, or the next newspaper story or book at the library, or the next visit to see a doctor. It's a story that touches on everything that's right and wrong with our medical system. For those on a similar journey, it will touch a nerve and the heart. Monica Caruso
