A Dangerous Bargain
"They called him the Demon Earl. They said he could do anything."
Son of a rogue and a gypsy, Nicolas Davies was a notorious rake until a shattering betrayal left him alone and embittered in the Welsh countryside.
Desperation drives quiet schoolmistress Clare Morgan to ask the Demon Earl to help save her village. Unwilling to involve himself in the problems of others, Nicholas sets an impossible price on his aid-only if Clare will live with him for three months, letting the world think the worst, will he intervene.
Furiously Clare accepts his outrageous challenge, and finds herself drawn into a glittering Regency world of danger and desire. As allies, she and Nicholas fight to save her community. As adversaries, they explore the hazardous terrain of power and sensuality.
And as lovers, they surrender to a passion that threatens the foundations of their lives...."
Thunder and Roses was nominated for a RITA award and was a finalist for the RWA Golden Choice award for best book of the year.
"Both sublimely romantic and scorchingly sensual, Thunder and Roses is an extraordinary romance from an extraordinary author."

This story has depth that I haven't seen recently in the romances I've been reading. But not so much that the story doesn't move along. The characters were so very likeable! I loved the heroine and just wanted to hug Nicholas, the half gypsy earl. It was a wonderful story full of details about the average man's life in the mine and the industry of Wales in that time period. I admired and enjoyed the way the author brought the gypsy way of life into Nicholas' story.
Ever since I found Mary Jo Putneys' books, I've had a great time. All of her heriones and heros are somebody I want to be. What fun it is reading her books. Also she does great geographical research. I'm in love.
this book was so awesome!!! it made me wish there wasn't an ending
