A Time of Departing reveals how New Age spirituality is infiltrating much of the church today. In it the author exposes the how these "contemplative spirituality" teachings compromise the gospel with Eastern mystical practices wrapped in evangelical terminology. Topics covered include Contemplative Prayer, Yoga, Labyrinths, Spiritual Directors, Reiki, Desert Fathers, Spiritual Formation, Spiritual Disciplines, Purpose Driven, and the Emerging Church. Yungen pulls back the wrapping to reveal what many mainstream denominations and celebrity authors and pastors are really teaching, and what Christians are embracing as biblical that is actually rooted in Eastern religion and even the occult. I appreciated that the author isn't giving his personal opinion; he instead uses the very words of these teachers (Richard Foster, Rick Warren, Brian McClaren, and Henri Nouwen, to name a few) and those of scripture to make a case against the contemplative spirituality teachings and doctrines of the Emergent Church. I recommend this book for any Christian who isn't sure what some of this teaching means, who desires to know what the Bible says about it, and who wants to be able to recognize it for what it is. I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.

The book captures the essence of the contemplative prayer movement, and those who are embracing it's practices within the Christian Church. Author Ray Yungen's 2nd Edition of 'A Time of Departing' has defined a disturbing reality as to how many popular Christian authors are currently endorsing a contemplative Spirituality. 'A Time of Departing' covers Interspirituality, Spiritual Formation, centering/breath prayer, mantras,Yoga, Reiki, Mysticism, and a merging of Hindu-Buddhism with Christianity. The book will broaden your understanding in how invasive this Interspirituality has become and why if you are a Christian -- you should be concerned. Ray Yungen has been a researcher for 20 yrs. and knows the tenets of new age spirituality well. This book gives a serious examination of these practices and shows a comparison to biblical faith.
