Forgiving Ben lost his company to a under handed business partner. Then he started drinking, but got sober but couldn't figure out what to do with his life. Emily was the daughter of the man who stole Ben's company, and she volunteers at the soup kitchen. He started coming to the soup kitchen he started in his father's memory. But no one knows he is the founder. She likes him but has been through a awful divorce. He's afraid he will hurt her. It's a Weiner story of overcoming bad and forgiving and a baby to boot.

Another good one from Shay, actually a reissue. Ben is a volunteer and a user of the Cassidy Place Soup Kitchen. Emily is a volunteer there and thinks Ben is a lot more than he seems. There is a very complex story here, and some intertwining events that make a Shay story. The lives of Ben and Emily intersect in ways they can't anticipate. The romance is a good one and the ending comes after multiple reconciliations. This is the first novel in a series called "About the Baby".

A beautiful story! It is very appropriate if read during the Christmas season or anytime of the year. It was short, but had a good plot. I look forward to other books by this author. LA-TXN

Highly Recommended Loved the story - When a wealthy man is betrayed he suddenly finds himself homeless and ends up eating in a 'soup kitchen' once a week. How can he not want revenge? Can the woman who volunteers in the soup kitchen help him, much less the path he has planned for his revenge? The story may be fiction but I wonder if the things which happened might not happen in real life.

I'm new to Ms. Shay's book but after reading this one I definitely want to read more! What a great story of 2 people who are attracted to each other without knowing much about the other one. They have so much against their HEA but with a lot of work, forgiveness and understanding they are able to work things out not just with each other but with their families as well. I received an e-copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

An excellent choice but short. Good plot with a few surprises.

An all around great read. So well written with very likable characters, even if a few were misguided. Reminds us that the heart that forgives wins out in the end.

One of the main reasons why I love Kathryn Shay's books is because her emotionally scarred characters and her dramatic and powerful storytelling stand the test of time and can be read and enjoyed over and over again. This particular book is one of her earlier works but the emotionally compelling themes of sorrow, loss and revenge are universally appealing and will never go out of style. Ben and Emily are characters that have both lived with crippling loss and continue to suffer from the machinations of someone who is vital to their past, present and future in ways that are almost unimaginable. I was intrigued by their individual circumstances and spellbound by their relationship from the beginning of the book right through to the cataclysmic and oh-so-satisfying conclusion.

Ben and Emily meet at a soup kitchen where Emily volunteers but Ben had begun. Emily is a wonderful person who is able to bring the best out in those around her. Will Emily be able to help Ben, her husband, find his true heart and bring the rest of her family together? This is a wonderful book with so many layers. You experience all emotions throughout the story and through each character development. This is a not a light read but is a great, must read. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I was given this book by the author for a fair and honest review.

A Time To Give ( About The Baby- Book 1 ) By: Kathryn Shay A Time To Give is book one of About The Baby Series by Kathryn Shay. This is my first book to read by Ms Shay , but hopefully it want be my last. The author drew me in at the start and I was hooked till the end. The story and the characters both were so real. A Time To Give was a very emotional story filled with romance. At times I caught myself trying to read faster to see what was going to happen next. Ben Cassidy had lost everything he worked for. He still visits the soup kitchen once a week . He hates the man responsible for his lost. No one at the soup kitchen knows who he is. Emily does not have to work, but she loves coming to the soup kitchen and volunteering. She also gets to see the mysterious Ben that she knows nothing about. Will Ben ever get his life back like it was before he lost everything? Will Emily ever find out about the mysterious man Ben? I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Great start to a new series by Kathryn Shay! I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series. Emily and Ben definitely have a connection, but some would see their relationship as wrong because Emily is a volunteer at a local shelter that helps clothe and feed people while Ben is someone that comes quite often for dinner. After they finally cross from friends to lovers in their relationship Ben finds out who Emily really is and won't see or talk to her and Emily has no idea why. When they next see each other again they are both are surprised by the secrets that they have both kept from one another. Can they get past the pain, mistrust and lying to forge their relationship once again or is it lost forever? I was given an ARC from the author. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

A TIME TO GIVE by Kathryn Shay. You are drawn in from the beginning, meeting Emily and Ben at a soup kitchen. She is a volunteer but he comes to eat. Cassidy Place the volunteers have a professional distance from the guests. For Emily she is intrigued with Ben wanting to know more about him, to get him to talk. Ben watched Emily like a hawk, her eyes fascinated him, she always drew more out of him, then he wanted to give. Ben, had been a self made.business man,an investment went wrong, patent was held up. How will Ben feel when he find out that the connection to what he lost is because of her father. Now her father was selling, Emily is up in arms about it, all those people without jobs, and he didn't care, the money is all he cares about.Keeping him in line, was the only reason she worked for her father. She gave up her dreams, because of him. Dreams with Ben, a night to connect, till photos are noticed Can the hurt, betrayal, they both are feeling be cleared. A powerful story, of emotions that two people have buried their self in. A great story for all to read and enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

This story reminds me why I have been a fan of Ms. Shay for over 15 years. Her books are timeless, since her topics are just as real today as they were 100 years ago. In this story we have Ben Cassidy, a man who had been very successful and wealthy , but loses himself and every possession after an aggressive takeover of his company. Without anyone being the wiser , he has been going once a week for almost a year, to the food kitchen he started during his successful years, not as a volunteer ,but as a guest. There he meets Emily. They are attracted to each other, but have resisted that attraction until one night. A night that not only was filled with revelations, but also resulted in a pregnancy. The plot thickens and complications occur. It’s a story filled with family loyalties, lies, trust issues, deceit, misunderstandings, corporate conspiracies, and hurt. But it is also a story filled with hope, forgiveness, compromises one might take to make those we love happy, forgiveness, new starts , miracles and above all love. So, whether you are a new reader or a long time fan of Ms. Shay, this one will not disappoint you. I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I really liked the book but could have left the sex scenes to to the imagination. Advise book is worth reading just page past the few sex episodes.
