I need to keep my mind clear and just think this through.

All great discoveries are made by [people]
whose feelings run ahead of their thinking.
--C. H. Parkhurst

Some survivors try to think their way through grief. That doesn't work. Grief is a releasing process, a discovery process, a healing process. We cannot release or discover or heal by the use of our minds alone. The brain must follow the heart at a respectful distance. It is our hearts that ache when a 'loved one dies. it is our emotions that are most drastically affected. Certainly the mind suffers, the mind recalls, the mind may plot and plan and wish, but it is the heart that will blaze the trail through the thicket of grief.

Grief is a discovery process. I will open myself to the discoveries my heart and head will make. Grief is a healing journey, and I will trust my heart to lead my head in this journey.

I first bought this book when my sister was murdered (by husband she was leaving) 10 years ago. I have given away 5 copies to friends who have had losses. That means I have bought this book 5 times and intend to pick it up again. My brother just died (age 34) of cancer. I miss my copy. It is a great 'companion' which has always been able to be a compass for my grief. I hope this is the last time I buy it tho.......... Jeannine

I have since given 8 or 9 copies to friends and family members at the loss of loved ones. This is a book that you can just pick a chapter and it will speak to your heart and mind. God Bless the author of this book, she writes so well and as if she is speaking just to you.

After my husband and then my son died, people gave me many books. This was the only one that helped. The combination of quotations, affirmations, and suggestions showed that the author truly understands the grieving process. Almost every page of my copy is underlined and dog-eared. I have given at least 2 dozen copies to others who have suffered losses.

Pick and choose the topics you want to read. Almost devotional style. The quotes at the top of each page made me remember that people have had to grieve through the ages. The body of so many sections described so accurately what I was feeling. And best of all, the affirmations at the bottom of each page were so inspirational-- they gave me hope.

I highly recommend this book to all individuals especially those who are going through a loss of any kind. It helps you cope with your emotions and to accept them, but to also know that it is okay to feel those emotions. This book has helped me a lot and I think it can help others as well

This is an easy book to read when in the throes of loss. Written in question and answer style, you can just open to any page and find comfort without having to read a whole book about how to grieve. It was very helpful to me when I endured a big loss, and now it's my go-to gift for friends when they suffer a loss.

After my sister's passing, i became increasing depressed. My entire family did everything they knew how to help. I found this book.....and slowly I began coping with life without my only sister. It is comforting, intellige nt, consoling. It givesyou permission to cry but then it helps you start rebuilding a new life without your loved one. 12 years later i still use it to get through the rough spots. Thank you little giant book...you have helped me see tomorrow.

What a great comfort this book is to anyone experiencing the loss of a loved one. I have given the book to 3 different friends who became widows this past year & last. Each of them has shared how comforting this book is. You can pick it up & start anywhere, depending on the topic which most interests you that day. It is deeply personal & truly makes a difference. You better understand what the sadness is about & why tears come at unusual times ! When one is unsure of what to say or give to a friend, this book does it all for you. A true comfort & a 'must read' during grief. Thank you, Carol, for writing such a caring book.

This is THE BEST book re. grieving. Having lost my husband 2 years ago, this book was a life saver. Nice to know my emotions were normal. I now give this book instead of flowers when a friend has passed away. -- What's good about this book is you can read it immediately after a loved one has passed away and/or a year after they have died. It's good reading any time.

I bought 3 books when my Mother passed away last year. This was the only helpful one. This book allows you to find what is troubling you at any given time and read only that page. I'm buying another copy to give as a gift to a friend whose grieving now.

After searching through the whole store section on coping with loss, I found this book to be exactly what I was looking for. It's a treasure, easily readable with meditations that both comfort and make sense in everyday life. I'll be buying a copy for my mother, too. Thanks to the author for making a difficult time more bearable and showing me, in very simple words, how to get through it.

This is a must have for anyone who has suffered a loss. It gives words to grief and in doing so brings comfort and gentle guidance and helps alleviate the aching loneliness you feel when you lose a loved one. If you know someone who's grieving and you don't know what to do for them...give them this book!

This book was in the hospice library where I worked. I sufferred a tremendous, traumatic loss and I was searching for something to help me with my grief. The meditations are easy to read. If needed, you can read the book a paragraph or section at a time. My grief was all over the place and the meditations helped me to sort them out. I have given this book away so many times I don't even have a copy in my own library.

As a bereaved parent I found the quotations, insights, and framing of grief issues very helpful. This is an easy reading resource I would recommend to the bereaved and their friends.
