About the Author

Though Laurie Germaine has been crafting stories from a young age, she found renewed joy when she combined her year-round love for Christmas with an unused BA in German, and the seed was sown for Tinsel in a Tangle. A New England native who once dreamed of raising her family in Europe, Laurie now lives in Montana with her husband, two daughters, and their mellow Alaskan Malamute. When she's not immersed in her latest WIP, you can find her knitting or creating dioramas for her 16-inch poseable dolls. Visit her on Facebook, Twitter, or on her blog, Scattered Whimsy.

Hands down, this was the cutest book I’ve ever read. Laurie Germaine sleighs it with this book (see what I did there?). This story is fun and quirky, but heartfelt and romantic. It touches on major themes that are completely relatable even if you aren’t seventeen, an elf, or in love with the future Santa Claus. It has the cheer and kitsch of classic holiday movies like Rudoph and Elf, but is enjoyable for adults. Not only is the story sweet, but it’s smart as well. The author has a delightful voice, quick wit, and unique way to turn a phrase. I found myself wondering what Christmas cliché she would twist next! I expected a sweet romance set at Christmastime. What I found was so much more! I can’t wait to read another story by this author!

When life hands you a lump of coal, set a fire. Shine bright. …Or burn up Santa’s gift reserves and jeopardize the most important holiday of the year—Christmas. Tinsel, a clumsy, human-sized elf, desires to leave a legacy of more than just mishaps, disasters and penalties; but she may never get the chance to prove to herself, to her peers, and to Santa that she is so much more than the sum of her mistakes. And Niklas, Santa’s arrogant (but dreamy) grandson, is so not an encouraging Kringle…is he? Sparks fly and emotions escalate as Tinsel and Niklas team up to save Christmas. This irresistible and endearing tale is full of humor, fantastic dialog, delicious (yet clean) romance, and reindeer. I love the reindeer. Laurie Germaine offers a well-written Christmas story capable of delighting and satisfying both the young and the young-at-heart.

This book is hilarious and so romantic! I never in a million years thought I would crush on Santa! But this is not your ordinary Santa, this is the future Santa before the jelly belly and red suit. Santa as a teenager. If you’ve ever looked at that iconic picture of Santa and Mrs. Claus and noticed she had pointy elf ears and wondered about their story—this is it!!! The tale begins when human-sized elf, Tinsel, causes an explosion in her high school chemistry lab that destroys a stash of presents and sends the elves into panic mode to save Christmas. Fortunately, the current Santa’s hot, teenaged grandson, Niklas Kringle, is there to lead everyone to safety. As it says on the cover, “so not how she wants to go down in history.” This clumsy elf who believes she doesn’t fit in her tiny elf world is determined to make things right and save Christmas. Turns out, she does have a place at Santa’s side along with an amazing talent. Which I won’t say, but here’s a hint: it involves Santa’s reindeer. This is the perfect early Christmas gift and holiday read for the teens and pre-teen girls in your house, but you mom’s and single ladies out there will love it, too. Laurie Germaine is a gifted writer! She’ll draw you into Flitterndorf and make you believe in the magic of Christmas.

Reviewed by Ankita Shukla for Readers' Favorite Tinsel in a Tangle by Laurie Germaine is a story that looks closely into the concept of "fitting in." Tinsel is a human-sized elf who stands out among other elves who are of an acceptable size. Her size is not the only thing that stands out among the elves; her clumsiness has become a prominent factor in defining her. Niklas, who is next in line to become Santa Claus, is a Kringle. He and Tinsel were best buddies when they were kids; however, things changed between them. Now, Tinsel can't stand the sight of Niklas and he cannot resist mocking her clumsiness every chance he gets. An accident, that was caused by Tinsel, results in her having to feed and clean the stalls of Santa's eight reindeer. This punishment turns out to be a blessing in disguise; she discovers that she can understand the reindeer language and actually communicate with them. Although Tinsel and Niklas don't accept it, there is something between them that's stronger than magic itself. Since romance between an elf and a Kringle is forbidden, they cannot act on their feelings anyway. The story of Tinsel in a Tangle is deeper than any other magical tale. Besides the fact that it is set in a land that has elves, Santa Claus, and reindeer, there is nothing unrealistic about it. Tinsel is an elf who is trying to make sense of her life. She is a magnet for disasters, but she doesn't give up on life. She falls often, but that does not stop her from getting up. She is my favorite character because she never gives up. Instead of sulking, she brushes off the dust of failure and keeps her head held high. The forbidden romance between Niklas and Tinsel is very hard to resist. I loved their love-hate relationship. There were complications and a sweetness to it. As a reader, I found myself vouching for their love story throughout the read. A very important lesson in the book is never to underestimate yourself. You may be different from others, but that does not make you any less important. We all have our own talents; only when we stop trying to be like everybody else do we realize how special we are. Tinsel in a Tangle by Laurie Germaine is a wonderful combination of love, family, conspiracy, and friendship.
