Loss, pain, guilt…
The lone survivor of a terrible night, where fate was so unkind, Ben Carpenter has resolved himself to a life of loneliness. After all, love has made him aware of only one thing – overwhelming misery – and he’d never go down that road again.
Submersing himself into running Fairfax and his side gig as a volunteer firefighter, he is shocked when envy suddenly takes hold as his best friend marries the love of his life. But before he can deal with the idea of reopening his heart to love, tragedy strikes again… just not for him.
As secrets of his wife’s betrayal come to light, Ben is faced with a new reality; and an opportunity to heal stares him straight in the face, in the form of Hannah.
Bonded by their similar losses, he begins to wonder…
Is there really such a thing as second chances?

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Decevito had me in tears before the end of the first chapter. She built this intensely emotional and extremely evocative novel on an intricate storyline that can’t fail to capture your heart. She paints a beautiful picture of both her characters and their surroundings, allowing you to walk through the story with these characters. I love how well developed the main characters in this novel are. You really get to know them intimately. You also get to know them in the past and present, with a hint at their future. You can see them as they see themselves, how they see each other, and how the world sees them. The supporting cast is also quite unique. They aren’t overly developed in this novel, depending on their stories in previous novels for this. At the same time, they are developed enough that this could be read as a standalone if you so desired. This novel left me emotionally raw. Decevito tore me apart and put me back together again. It was fantastically refreshing! Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
