It's hard to believe that the author of this book is only 19. To Leave or Die in Nashville covers an extraordinary range of style and talent sorely lacking in young poets these days. While he covers a variety of topics in this work, Ryan is at his best when he is talking about love. Some of the poems, like "Sext" or "Harper" will make you laugh. Others, like "Raspberry Girls" will have you wishing you were young again. "Elle," for whom the book is dedicated, will have you in tears. Certainly not a book to be missed for any fan of poetry, and certainly not an author to be overlooked as he continues to develop his craft.
