She’s determined to end her betrothal, but he must make her his, no matter the cost.

As an infant, Mayra Findlay’s hand was pledged in marriage to Logan Rutherford by order of the king. She’s only seen Logan once since; when they were still young children. Over the years, she’s written him several times, asking that he petition the king to end their troth, but Logan never responds. However, after a chance encounter with an irresistible rogue she can’t stop thinking about, nor stop secretly meeting, Mayra is resolute she’ll marry for love. Though it’s risky, she initiates a bold scheme that’s certain to force Logan to call off their union.

Until Laird Logan Rutherford returned to Scotland and inherited a near bankrupt estate, he had no intention of wedding the lass he was betrothed to as a wee lad. He’d planned to honor Mayra’s ever more demanding requests to dissolve their marriage contract, but now he must have her dowry to save his beloved Lockelieth Keep. One day, he prevents Mayra from taking a nasty tumble, and he’s immediately intrigued with the intelligent lass.

Mayra doesn’t recognize Logan, and after she reveals her utter contempt for her betrothed, he impulsively assumes his cousin’s identity. A decision that soon has Logan snared in a tangled web of deceit, because he’s fallen in love with Mayra.

This story is great start to a new series by Collette Cameron! I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series. Mayra Findlay and Logan Rutherford are pledged to marriage when they are children. Logan has no idea what kind of a woman Mayra has become, but he needs this marriage to happen when he inherits a near bankrupt estate. so he takes on his cousin's identity in order to find out. However in doing so he finds they soon develop a friendship and an attraction that would be perfect for their marriage to work, if only he had not kept his true identity hidden. Mayra doesn't want anything to do with an arranged marriage especially with someone who didn't return responses to her letters. She is tired of being told what she must do and only wants to have the chance to meet and fall in love without outside influences. When coming up with a plan to be caught enticing a rogue that would embarrass her intended she doesn't realize that she to would be ensnared and more is involved than just her reputation, but her heart as well. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

He goes to town to check out Mayra before he will commit and pretends to be is cousin Coburn. Mayra meets him as a stranger and is attracted to him but worries about her promise to wed Logan, and tries to think of a way out.. A very sweet delightful story with a storybook ending.

Logan and Mayra were contracted to wed as children. Mayra a babe and Logan more interested in a puppy than a wife. His father received half of Mayra’s dowry and over time wasted it. Logan travels looking for investments and a way to make money. He decides to meet Mayra anonymously, using his cousin’s name. Maya falls in love with him not knowing who he really is, and he falls in love with her. She is devastated when she discovers his ruse. They do get a HEA but a novella is too short to spoil the plot. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the rest of the series. Thank you Collette for giving me an ARC.

To Love a Highland Rogue (Heart of a Scot Book 1) by Collette Cameron, is a novella, and a quick read, but Ms. Cameron manages to bring these characters and story to life, through the pages of a great read. With witty banter, an arranged marriage, a gelding with attitude, a scheme that back fires, one must remain married to keep their inheritance, and romance, makes for some entertaining reading. I love Collette Cameron's writing style, her detail descriptions, her engaging characters and her humor, just adds a touch of live's reality. I enjoyed watching these characters realize there is passion, love, and finding a HEA, even in an arranged marriage. Another must have read in what promises to be an entertaining new series. Fantastic read!! Rating: 5 Heat rating: Mild Reviewed by: AprilR

Once upon a time, when Mayra Findlay was but a babe and Logan Rutherford 6 years old, their respective families were ordered by the King that they should marry when Mayra reached her twentieth birthday, and so they were betrothed. That was the first time they saw each other, if one can say that. The second time was when Mayra was seven, and their paths hadn’t crossed in the meantime. Neither wanted this marriage, and Mayra kept on petitioning the King to change his mind, to no avail, or rather to no response from the monarch. One fine day, when Mayra went to the village to bring food to the poor, she espies a man so dazzling that she falls off her cart and straight into the object of her distraction’s arms. Alas, being betrothed, she cannot possibly think of getting better acquainted with him, can she? Logan is also immediately taken by the bonny lass, but because he is indeed betrothed, whether he likes it or not, when asked for his name, Logan blurts his almost-identical cousin’s name: Coburn Wallace. Collette Cameron is one of my favourite historical romance authors, and I grabbed TO LOVE A HIGHLAND ROGUE without looking at the blurb, which turned out to be a bit of a problem for me; I don’t hold it against the author, I was the one who didn’t read. I don’t particularly enjoy when a character assumes another’s identity, especially when it’s a rather trivial matter; it’s not as if Logan’s life were in danger, he merely wants to know if his betrothed is worthy of his attentions. As I dreaded, he waits too long to tell her who he really is, but on the other hand, the deception didn’t lead to much unpleasantness. Collette Cameron is often given to extravagant adjectives and various fanciful embellishments, which are scarce in this book, and I felt the author’s more subdued was particularly well-suited to the mood of TO LOVE A HIGHLAND ROGUE. Ms. Cameron’s prose is as lovely as ever, and the dialogues delightful. Logan, in spite of his mistake – which he does regret almost immediately – is a lovely hero, charming and honest in spite of his unfortunate error in judgement; Mayra is a very appealing heroine, and they do make a fine couple. TO LOVE A HIGHLAND ROGUE is a fine start to a new series, and I cannot wait to read Coburn’s story, which will be next. I also hope we will get to see more of Isla, as her story begs to be told, whether soon or in a more distant future. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I give 4 ½ stars

A marriage contract neither wanted. A marriage he needed. The last thing 6 year old Logan Rutherford wanted was to sign a marriage contract. Now a grown Logan Rutherford, Laird of Lockelieth Keep, needs this marriage to keep Lockelieth solvent and to avoid forfeiture of the dowry portion that his father squandered on his conniving second wife. To avoid the same fate as his father, Logan does a little sleuthing. What Logan hasn’t bargained for is how the bald baby he remembers turned into a beauty and the feelings she arouses. Mayra Findley has spent her entire life bound to a boy she doesn’t know. Between not knowing him and his callous disregard for her over the years she is determined to break the contract even going so far as to petition the king. She’s more determined than ever after she falls into the arms of a handsome stranger that stirs feelings within her. A forced betrothal, a ruse, a determined miss, and Collette Cameron’s witty sense of humor create a fantastic story of finding love in unlikely places.
