Overview

Shaun Brannon is broken to the core. But even though Kelsey's heart is cracking as she helps him carry the weight of his past, she can't walk away from her promise to be there for him, and she can't ignore her deepening feelings. So she tries to accept the little he's offering, even though she wants it all. But after months of wrestling with her emotions, she decides she must risk losing him by asking for more than he's prepared to give her.

Shaun won't admit it, but he aches for more than Kelsey's warm body in his bed. The problem is, something stands between them. The whole truth about what happened eight years ago. When Kelsey demands to have all of him or she'll walk away, he knows the time has come to tell her the truth. But the fear of reliving the past is just as paralyzing as the thought of losing her.

To Love Again by Dori Lavelle is the second book in her Learning to Live Again series. Kelsey has learned the bare bones of Shaun's past. He has allowed her to believe he has told her the whole story but he managed to leave out most of the painful details that followed the terrible car accident that ruined his life eight years ago on his wedding night. They are still enjoying their arrangement, at least on the surface. Kelsey can't stand when he leaves and won't spend the night and Shaun is having trouble with the guilt that leaving her is causing him. His past keeps winning though and he keeps leaving her. Sounds intense right? This is just the first couple of chapters. Then the really complicated stuff begins. Things heat up between Kelsey and Shaun, but they're both so wary that it takes very little to rock their boat. Besides their own drama they each have to deal with outside drama. I can't say anymore without ruining the impact of some of the many surprises packed into this second installment. Be prepared to ugly cry. Dori Lavelle has done it again and I cannot with for the next book, To Breathe Again.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is more detailed as to why Kelsey and Shaun act the way they do and why Shaun is guarded. They've both gone through very emotional heartache in the past and don't want to be hurt again. When Kelsey goes through something major, Shaun finally admits that he doesn't want to and can't live without Kelsey. This book brings out a lot of emotions. Dori Lavelle is a wonderful author!

Shaun and Kelsey have an agreement to have a friends with benefits relationship. But it never really works that way. Kelsey is in too deep. Shaun finds it being more but panics at the mere thought. As time goes on, both are having a hard time pretending and when she says she loves him and can’t help it, he runs.  Kelsey runs away too! She can’t help but love him and they both go hot and cold with each other. Shaun tells Kelsey most of his past but still has kept one huge secret and he is afraid if he tells her she will run away for good. Both have so many things going on that it makes my head spin trying to figure out how they will make it past so much adversity. The story line is good and the characters are believable and I am hooked on this series watching the two with both of their issues working slowly towards each other. I can’t tell you much since the book is short without giving so much away. But just know that neither is stupid or immature in their decisions and they love each other, they both just need to believe it! Each book gets better and better and I am excited to see what happens next with them and to see if Shaun can finally heal and move forward in life.

This is book 2 in Dori’s new series and it doesn’t disappoint. Book one introduces us to Shaun and Kelsey and feeds us a little of their past but leaves us in the dark fro the next book. We get to know them and their daily struggles as well as their progress. Kelsey goes through a roller coaster of emotion as she tries to deal with Shaun and his push and pull in their relationship. It shows us her strength and character as she not only deals with his issues but her own also. Shaun comes to a huge realization in this book and it’s refreshing to see how it works out. He is a strong, sexy determined young man with a dark past that comes all out in this dramatic romance. The characters as always are strong and personable and come through well in the story. They are sweet yet passionate and strong. I  really enjoyed this read and loved the way it played out.

This is the second book in this series. Kelsey though she was okay with just being friends with benefits with Shaun but she is realizing that isn’t true. She wants more from him. She knows that he has past where horrible things happened and he blames himself. If he would just open up a little bit to her and let her help him she wouldn’t mind their situation. He doesn’t though; he won’t sleep over and leaves right after they have sex. He pushes her away whenever he she brings up his past. So she comes clean with him and lets him know she wants more. He tells her he can’t give her more, Kelsey says if he can’t open up and let him help so they can try to have more than they are done. She has to look out for herself. She can’t keep doing this, every time he leaves her heart breaks a little. She knew she would get hurt by him. Shaun wants Kelsey but he just can’t let go of what happened to his wife all those years ago. Why can’t Kelsey just like the way it is between them and not want more? Can Shaun let go of Kelsey now that he has had something with her? If he just hadn’t drink and then drove on his wedding day everything would be different. Shaun can’t tell Kelsey the rest of what happened. He lives every day tormented by what happened to his wife and his part in it. Kelsey is doing great in her cooking classes and is offered a part time job at The Hot Pot by the owner Lucy. At least part of Kelsey’s life is going the way she wants. Now if only Shaun would open up to her and her dad would talk to her again. Will Shaun realize how much he loves Kelsey be its too late? Will Kelsey be willing to give him another chance if he does? This book is even more emotional than the first. I liked this one more than the first and can’t wait to read the next. In this book you learn more about Shaun and what happened to his wife. He keeps going over everything that happened and his part in it. Kelsey is trying to get him to open up so she can help him without pushing too hard. She wants to be a friend to him even after she has told him they can’t have benefits anymore. He can’t do it though; he says he may never be ready. Kelsey goes through things herself that she doesn’t tell Shaun about. She has her own emotional path in this book. I want Shaun to open up his eyes and not lose Kelsey. What happened with his wife was horrible and it will take time to heal but if he doesn’t at least try soon he will lose Kelsey. Their story is heart breaking and frustrating to me. I can’t imagine what Shaun feels. Kelsey’s dad has a heart attack. It helps their relationship a lot afterwards. Kelsey goes home and helps him recover and they reconcile. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but this is a great series. Great Job Dori, I will be looking for other books by her. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
