A child of the sixties, Leigh Sinclair always knows what she wants. So why does her mother Bette always try to hold her back? Leigh senses there must be something behind her mother's inclination to overprotect her. But her mother will not let go and it builds a wall between them.

When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, sets in motion his March on Washington in 1963, no one--least of all, Leigh--could have predicted how this would impact her life. Leigh faces all the challenges of the 1960's: the Cold War, Vietnam, a turbulent time in the US and worldwide. With the change in women's rights, she confronts so many new possibilities and choices her grandmother and mother never encountered.

Falling for the wrong man brings Leigh consequences she never envisioned. Falling in love with the right man proves heart-breaking too. Will she never get it right? Then one day the worst Leigh could imagine happens. Who can help her make this turn out right for her and her daughter?

The Carlyle Women-four generations,
each facing the challenges of her time
and each harboring her own painful secret~

It's the 1960's. The Martin Luther King March takes place in Washington, DC. Attitudes are beginning to change....but how far will that go? Will segregation really end? The president is assassinated in Dallas, his brother is killed in Los Angeles, the Vietnam war starts and the country is experiencing many changes. How will the Carlyle Women react? Leigh struggles with her mother, Bette, about almost everything. Attending the march is out of the question, being involved in the Democratic convention brings about less than favorable results, and drugs bring heartache to Leigh and her best friends. Grandmother Chloe says God loves us just as we are, imperfect humans. Is it possible that Leigh embrace that grace and accept herself as she is? I received this book from the author and all opinions are my own.

Loved this book. Lyn Cote has a way with American history writing. This series follows the women that have met with real struggles of their time with strength, tears and a lot of triumphs. Even though this is a series, this book can be read as a stand along (here's betting you will want to read the whole series though). :) I received this as an advanced reader. This review is my own done without compensation.

To Love Somebody ( The Carlyle Women-Book 3 ) By: Lyn Cote To Love Somebody is book three by Lyn Cote in The Carlye Women Series. I enjoyed reading about Leigh and her story. Leigh seems to know what she wanted, but her mother, Bette, did not always agree with her. I felt bad about their relationship.I loved her grandmother, Chloe. Leigh went through a lot in ,To Love Somebody. In 1960 - 1970 there was Civil rights, women’s rights, war, and the hippies. It seems that Leigh was all the time falling for the wrong man. Will she ever find the right man that will love her ? Leigh’s story is heartbreaking as was her mother’s and her grandmother’s. I was given a complimentary copy of this book .but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
