From The Book
As far back as I can remember my mother had a dream of one day writing a book. She told the best stories when I was a child and I believe she really did have a book in her that needed to be written. How were any of us to know that before she would be able to fulfill her dream she would be dealt such a horribly cruel blow. I guess in some ironic way my mom's dream did come true, but with one major twist. Instead of writing her book she "became" her book.
From The Book
I'm not sure of the exact day or time it became a member of my family. I do know that by the time it made itself known, it had already been with us for several years. I don't remember the exact moment things turned from being something I could easily explain away, to the crushing reality there was an unwelcome stranger, intruding itself into my family. I just remember the moment I realized how much I despised this horrible thing that had forced itself into our lives.
"We have all experienced hardships in our lives, every single one of us. If you haven't yet just wait, it's coming. Some are small stones we can easily step over, some are mountains that take years for us to climb. This book is Tonya Ferguson's "mountain climbing" story, painted with the raw and real emotions of someone who has battled a long, violent storm." Mairin Wolfe

I loved this book, it was like looking into a window in my own life. Tonya is so uplifting in this book and I love how she has scriptures from the bible, questions and answers at the end from her family. Loved how she even had the sinners prayer. God bless her and her family and thank you Tonya for writing your story, it does help others who have been thru grief and the disease of alzheimers and dementia.
I just finished reading To remember love by Tonya Ferguson. I would recommed this book to anyone who is taking care of their loved ones with Alzeimers/Dementia. This book showed me that I am not the only one taking care of my loved one with this condition. The book makes you feel like you are writing yourself. Some of the experiences and challanges that Tonya faced. It shows that you that she deeply loved both of her parents. That she was willing to take on the challenge of taking care of her mother at home instead of putting her in a nursing home. Her father and mother would be proud that she kept her promises. I would recommed this book.
I just finished reading Tonya Ferguson's Book "to remember love " and it has helped so very much to understand what I am going through. She basically calls the new grief that I experience each day "perpetual grief". She explains that this type of Grief that is never ending and always reappearing with each new loss of function or ability of Mother's. This is why there is no closure nor can I overcome the grief because it is new grief each day. I admire Tonya and her devotion to God and how she has accepted her path in life. I had to read it in bits and pieces because it is so moving and just overwhelmed me but it was so worth it. I have been able to accept my own feelings toward this disease and to accept God's path for my own Mother.
