It is not years that measure and mark our lives, but moments; the individual events that mold our spirits and shape our destinies. In the course of our lives, like the branches of a broad tree, the situations we climb leave their signature on our hearts not only in that each changes us a little, but that each leaves us a little more sure of ourselves. I believe poems are short stories in the purest sense. These poems are the stand-out moments, the many stories of my life.

I see the birds and drop into a hunter's crouch. Quietly, I move forward and suddenly lunge at a bird. Deftly, I bite its neck and it dies instantly. I leap after another and kill one more. By then the rest of the birds flew off. I pick up my prey and pad back to camp.
