Overview

The story is about a man called Tom Fanshawe. In his early forties, Tom has lived on an inner city estate which has become rundown and a haven for drug pushers, vandals and muggers. Only able to get work in low paid jobs and having to give most of his hard earned cash to uncaring, unscrupulous landlords, Tom has no way of getting out of the rut that has become his life. That, however, changes when an unexpected letter from an unknown solicitor drops onto his front door mat. He agrees to meet the solicitor and soon finds out that he has been left a rather large sum of money. So large in fact, that it will change his life forever. What Tom doesn't realise is that the change will be devastating and will in fact cost him more than his life. It will cost him his immortal soul. On his own, Tom has no chance of saving himself, but with the help of his new found friends from the village of Strangerscross he has at least a small chance. There is also a mysterious young woman who lends her help to Tom. Faced by the viscous stealer of souls, Tom has to fight for his life. Will he win or will he lose? Only time will tell.

About the Author

I started to write about fourteen years ago, something that I have always wanted to do, but for some strange reason, had never had the courage to attempt. With a lot of encouragement from my wife Wendy, I finally took up the challenge. My first novel was published some thirteen years later. In that vast space of time, I have managed to write another two more and have just started my sixth.

"Tom Fanshawe" is my second novel and I must admit, I had great fin writing it. My wife and I share a love of gardening and have a lovely mature garden, most of which is due to her green fingers. We also share another love and that is our Jack Russell Daisy and our fishpond and of course not forgetting our foster dog, Rosie, a totally mad Boarder Collie. My life is now split between working and writing, with a bit of D I Y in between. To say that I would like to give up my day job to write full time is an understatement, but if my boss should ever read this, I must point out that I am of course only joking.

My stories are mostly based around the area in which I live. The places where the action happens, are mostly based on real places, although some are purely fictiious, and I have of course changed their true names. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed horror stories and yet it seems strange that most of my work, with the exception of this one, are crime thrillers. Maybe with time and writing maturity, I will pen a horror story in the same class as my writing hero's.

It goes without saying that, the proudest achievement in my writing career, is the publication of my first book. This was only achievable with the help of a few people and they know who theyare, they also know that they have my ever-lasting thanks.

I enjoy crafting the lives of my characters, who have the courage to do things that I probably would never be able to cope with and in some way provide me with a way in which to recharge my batteries.

I am an Essex boy, and am intensely proud of the fact that I live where I do. With a bit of luck, you will still be awake enough to read on, and I hope that you enjoy Tom's adventure as much as I enjoyed writing it.
