Tomboy Beanie was the journey of me trying to discover who my ancestors are. I listened to the stories my mother told me, and the stories her family told her, and so on and so on. I became lost. I tried again. This time I focused on who I've been and who I've become so far, my tomboyishness and endless optimism, my family, and my African roots.Tomboy Beanie is, in some ways, about my immaturities, never wholly growing up. And, yet, the words themselves are me writing my own story.
