Toughest Cowboy in Texas: A Western Romance by Carolyn Brown

A sassy, laugh-out-loud second-chance romance from USA Today bestseller Carolyn Brown, author of The Strawberry Hearts Diner and The Ladies' Room .

The last time Lila Harris was in Happy, Texas, she was actively earning her reputation as the resident wild child. Now, a little older and wiser, she's back to run her mother's cafe for the summer. Except something about this town has her itching to get a little reckless and rowdy, especially when she sees her old partner-in-crime, Brody Dawson. Their chemistry is just as hot as ever. But he's still the town's golden boy-and she's still the wrong kind of girl.

Brody hasn't had much time lately for anything other than ranching. Running the biggest spread in the county and taking care of his family more than keeps him busy. All that responsibility has him longing for the carefree days of high school-and Lila. She may have grown up, but he still sees that spark of mischief in her eyes. Now he's dreaming about late-night skinny dipping and wondering how he can possibly resist the one woman he can never forget...

I tried reading this book paid 6.99 for it , was so not worth the money. I felt like the characters in the book were a bunch of 16 year old kids who couldn't make up their minds about any kind of relationship. LM

When Lila left Happy, Texas, as a teenager she was brokenhearted. Brody was the love of her life and they shared many special moments. Unfortunately Lila's reputation made their situation difficult. Brody didn't want to care, but a very wrong decision changed the course of both of their lives forever. After many years Lila is back in Happy. She's a lot calmer than she used to be, but never entirely lost her adventurous streak. When Brody meets her again he instantly realizes his old feelings are still there, but he has a lot to make up for. Will Lila give him another chance? Ranching is Brody's life. He spends most of his time working for the family business. Lila is only in Happy for a short while. Will he be able to find enough free hours to make her see that he's the one for her? Brody's family still doesn't approve of the girl who's stolen his heart, but this time he's older and wiser. He has to stand up for himself and show Lila that he's changed. Will this be enough to convince her that she should let love in again? Toughest Cowboy in Texas is a sparkling romantic story. Lila is a strong woman. She's smart, levelheaded and courageous. She's great with kids, which is something I really liked about her personality. Brody is a tough rancher with a sweet nature. He's happy he can make things right with Lila and will do anything to show her how much she means to him. He has to work hard for a chance to see his biggest wish fulfilled and it was interesting to see if Lila would risk falling for the same man a second time. I couldn't read their story quickly enough, I was eager to find out if these two beautiful people would get their second chance to be happy together. Carolyn Brown has a wonderful heartwarming writing style. She skillfully sets a perfectly fitting atmosphere and that makes the story absolutely amazing. I was mesmerized by the setting, all of her characters and the lovely plot line. Toughest Cowboy in Texas is entertaining, filled with plenty of charm and many surprising twists and turns and endearing. I like a good story about true love and this definitely falls into that category, like every other novel by Carolyn Brown it made my heart melt. I highly recommend this terrific feelgood book.

This is the first book in the Happy, Texas Series. It has great characters, a 2nd chance plot, no cheating, no angst and a HEA. Welcome to Happy, Texas ya'll, guaranteed you won't be disappointed with this start to a new fantastic series! Lila Harris, a school teacher, has come back to Happy, Texas after 12 years of being gone to help her mother sell her Cafe. As a teenager Lila had a reputation of being a "Wild Child" and her crush, Brody Dawson and his brother, Jace, was usually involved with her antics. After moving away Lila changed her ways but once she crossed the line into the panhandle her wild ways wanted to come back out and play. She stayed on the straight and narrow until Brody walks back into her life and that chemistry between them burns hot as ever. Brody Dawson, Rancher, doesn't have time for a social life while he is running Hope Springs Ranch. When he runs into Lila he craves those skinny-dipping nights and carefree days again but, only with her. She's grown up, only here for the summer and he has never been able to forget her. So, now he must convince her along with family that a 2nd chance together just might be their last....

Lila and her mother left Happy, Texas when she was a teenager. Even though she’d been known as the resident wild child, her heart had been shattered into a million pieces. Now she’s matured and back in town for the Summer to run her mother’s restaurant. What she didn’t expect was her heart to still be beating for the man that shattered it long ago. Ever since his father and his grandfather died in the same Summer years ago, Brody has been consumed with running the family ranch. When he hears Lila’s back, he’s already drawn back towards her. The question is whether or not he can convince her that he will place her before his family’s haughtiness. I’m not too much into second chance romances, but I thought I’d give this a try. I wasn’t disappointed. Watching these two find their way to each other as Lila also has to battle the town’s opinion of her and her family was something I really enjoyed. I also liked all of the secondary characters that were in the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in this new series. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

The Toughest Cowboy in Texas by Carolyn Brown is book number one in the Happy, Texas series. This is Lila Harris and Brody Dawson's story. I love Carolyn Brown's stories. You feel as if you are there. Many years ago I lived near Happy, Texas. It was like taking a trip back to Texas. Put Brody, hot cowboy, and wild child Lila together then you get a hot and steamy romance. Brody's mom and grandmother have always felt that Lila isn't good enough for him. It's been years since they graduated from high but Brody still feels guilty for not standing up for Lila. Would Lila give him a second chance? Does he have time for a relationship with his responsibilities to the ranch? Reading Carolyn Brown's book make me smile. They are a great blend of humor, sexy romance, and small towns in Texas. A great start to the Happy, Texas series. FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I won this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was required to give a favorable review. All thoughts are my own. This is a wonderful story of two people who have found their way back to each other after 12 years apart. He father died and they moved into the apartment her mom had built on the back of the dinner she bought. But she decided to have a couple of friends to run the restaurant and she took Lila to PA to live with her sister. Brody was the all around good guy, he ended up not going to college because he lost his father and grandfather in one summer and needed to help at both ranches. She was accused of being the resident wild child. But they loved each other but because she was poor and he had money people didn't believe they belonged together and they were never seen together. She went to college and became a teacher. Know her mom has decided to sell the dinner because one of her friends decided to move to FL to retire. But Lila still loves Brody, and he loves her now they just have to figure out if they can make it work. A lovely story. Can't wait to read the secomd book.

Lila Harris has her reservations about being back in Happy, Texas, she was once known as the town's wild child, and the folks in her small town haven't forgotten that after all these years... good thing she is a changed woman who has matured. She's only planning on a short stay, long enough to help her mom run her cafe through the summer, and then she is back to her new life... problem is her old one isn't quite ready to let go of her! The moment Brody Dawson hears that Lila Harris is back in town, he has to make a stop at her mothers cafe, and see it for himself, and damn what a beautiful site it is, she has definitely aged well. When she blew out of town all those years ago she took a little piece of his heart along with her, and now he wants to reclaim it, even if everyone else around him thinks it's a really bad idea. But Brody has never been one to do what others think is right.... I loved this charming southernfied romance, it grabbed my attention from the first page and kept captivated the whole way through. The folks of Happy, Texas charmed their way into my heart in a matter of minutes, made me feel right at home, and had me never wanting to leave town! Brody and Lila were quite the pair, their little love affair warmed my heart, had me laughing, and doing some serious swooning too! Ms. Brown has created a gem of series here, and I look forward to spending more time with these folks in the very near future! Highly recommend this one, Brody is sure to swoop in and steal your heart from the very first page!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

Now he's dreaming about late-night skinny dipping and wondering how he can possibly resist the one woman he can never forget... My Thoughts During their younger years Brody Dawson and Lila Harris gave in to the wilder urges of youth, managing to stay alive through each of their harum-scarum escapades and along the way fall in love with each other as well. Brody however came from a family whose good name was carefully tended by his Mother and Grandmother also. Lila’s family on the other hand was the exact opposite which led to trouble for the young lovers causing a rift between them that has lasted for too many years. Now back in Happy Texas, on behalf of her Mother, Lila is trying to not fall back into old habits but her inner wild side keeps rearing up making responsible behavior harder than she expected. Brody also finds himself torn between giving his full attention and time to his many responsibilities or giving Lila the better part of both by putting love ahead of duty this time around. Happy Texas is a typical small town, my favorite type of setting where one feels like you know each secondary character as well as the primary ones by the time the story ends. Brody and Lila have been apart due to a very heartbreaking misunderstanding for the past 10 years. Now having been given a second chance will this now grown-up pair manage to overcome their rocky past or will family once again manage to come between them? Reading their tale as it unfolds is the only way to answer the question and along the way find why small town life is sometimes preferable to anywhere else to make ones home. I can as always strongly recommend this Carolyn Brown romance read. [EArc from Netgalley in exchange for honest review]

Teenaged Lila lost her heart to Brody. Her wild child reputation and his family's social standing, put an end to her dreams of happily ever after before they had even begun. Now, an older and wiser Lila is returning to the town that she left behind and the boy she could never forget. Toughest Cowboy In Texas has sentimental written all over it. From star crossed romance to nostalgic memories and busybody neighbors, the small town of Happy, Texas is the perfect destination for LOVE.
