Phoebe St. Claire has devoted herself to saving her family’s hotel empire—but her best efforts have not been good enough. With her whole world in turmoil, the tenacious go-getter turns to the once love of her life. Their years apart have only made the sexy bad boy more irresistible than ever—and their reunion is explosive.

When she asks Jeremy to help her salvage her family business, he agrees immediately, with only one condition—he wants her in his bed.

But soon surprising circumstances leave Phoebe reeling. Was this fairy tale romance just too good to be true? Will Jeremy’s secrets pull them apart all over again?

This was a really good book that was ruined when the author turned the heroine into a weak character. I could really feel her pain. But she took all of the blame when she shoudn't have and worse, she did all the pursuing. I just could not be happy with their HEA. He was too willing to throw her away.

The story is good but l am not a fan of going back and forth from past and present so much. It just feels like the same info is being said over and over. For such a smart woman l found Phobe weak and question why Jeremy would keep coming back for more but guess as they say love conquers all.

Phoebe St. Clair met and fell head over heels in love with Jeremy McQueen in what she thought was the best summer of her life. Jeremy was her everything, but his past had left him disenchanted with the rich and famous. Because of that, Phoebe left out certain details of her life. She was young, in love, and couldn't be happier until one day everything changed and her heart was broken. Anger caused her to say things, him to walk away, and before she knew it the love of her life was gone without a trace. Now, years later she runs into Jeremy again, but he isn't the boy she knew. He has turned into a man, one who she soon finds out has done quite well from himself. As all of those feeling come rushing back for her, she soon finds herself head over heels for this man again, but doubts, jealousy, half-truths and omissions, and people and things from the past, and the not so distant past, threaten everything. Will love win out this time, or will secrets be more than they both can bear? I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I've read by Kim Karr, and Toxic was no exception. The book begins by shifting from the present to the past, chapter by chapter, giving you perspective on what happened then, and what is going on now. Phoebe and Jeremy had a hot, passionate romance, but they also had a lot of issues to overcome. Jealousy was a big issue for the both, mainly Phoebe, because I mean Jeremy was hot. Jeremy has other issues related to his past and things that have gone on in his life. When these things happen, Jeremy has his own struggles because he just wants Phoebe to believe in him and trust him. They are both hot tempered, especially Phoebe, which doesn't always end well. Circumstances, past lovers, and secrets test these two more than they ever imagined, threatening to destroy everything they have. Though their relationship seems "Toxic," watching them as they work through all of this and come to the other side proves to be quite an entertaining read. The romance is hot, the story is interesting and engaging, especially the latter half, and is one that contemporary romance fans will most certainly enjoy. Check it out.

Kim Karr is one of those authors who never leaves me disappointed, no matter what she writes I have adored and loved each and every book of hers I've picked up, Kim has a way of writing stories and characters that will leave an impression long after you've turned the last page. Toxic is a story that will grip you from the get go, a story of true love, second chances, misunderstandings, deceit and jealousy, add to that the sexy and gorgeous Jeremy McQueen and you have yourself one red hot, steamy read! Kudos for the epilogue, I always enjoy a book so much more when the reader gets a taste of what the characters are up too in the future. From the gorgeous cover to the more than appropriate title, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the tumultuous relationship between Jeremy and Phoebe, Toxic is by far my favorite book of Kim's one that will be hard to top. If there is only one Kim Karr book you pick up, make sure it's this one, you won't be disappointed!

Ooh boy. This book. It's so raw and messy and yet.... I couldn't get enough of Phoebe and Jeremy. The book is so aptly named because they really do have a toxic relationship. But as unhealthy and toxic as it could be, there is a lot of passion and love between these two as well. It's pretty explosive to be honest and I loved seeing them at their most vulnerable where it's as simple as wanting the other. Phoebe and Jeremy have a history together and I liked that Karr showed us a bit of that. I liked that we got a few chapters in the past, but the book was mostly focused on the present. We got just enough of an idea to glimpse their 21-year-old personalities in the past to show us how far they've come now in the present. You just know that things are doomed from the start because they start an affair based on lies. Add in the jealousy factor and it's game over. Lack of communication and jealousy were the two things that drove me a little crazy about this one. I get the jealousy, I do. I am a very jealous person by nature (and I hate that), so I can understand both Phoebe and Jeremy's reactions, especially since some of their situations don't exactly look good. However, they are both so stubborn. Instead of talking things out, they assume the worst and run away from the issue at hand. That is one of the things we do see them trying to work through and is a part of their growth so I did like seeing that transition. I liked the overall feel of this one a lot. I was interested in Phoebe, her friends, and her different relationships. Her friendships with both Lily and Jamie were great and I adored something that happened to Jamie in this book. It was a completely surprising situation and it ended up working so well. I did NOT care for Phoebe's ex, Dawson, though. She should have been more assertive towards him from the beginning. I don't know if that would have changed some of the issues that arose later though, as Dawson just can't seem to get it through his head that they are done and can only be friends. My favorite part was seeing the evolution of Phoebe and Jeremy's relationship. They both make a lot of mistakes and assumptions with the other, but the one constant was how they felt for one another. Even when Jeremy would act a bit harsh and cold, you could still tell how he felt about her and his shutting down was to protect himself. I loved the tension between them and how desperate they could be for one another. That volatility really worked here for them. It's a very thin line they walk, which is why when they hurt one another, it was hard to read because of how much it destroyed them. Karr writes some very sexy scenes and they do sometimes use sex as a means of avoiding a conversation which, (while hot) could be a bit irritating. Toxic is a steamy, sexy read and even though it could be frustrating at times, I still really liked it. I did feel there were some parts that read a bit slower than others, but otherwise I was pretty engaged and caught up in the chaos and passion of their relationship.

Jeremy McQueen and Phoebe St. Claire met in their early twenties and began a hot, summer romance. Their relationship may have stood a chance if it hadn’t started on a foundation of lies. Several years pass, yet no amount of time can douse their deep chemistry and attraction to each other. Finding themselves with another shot at love proves to be quite the complicated situation. In order to succeed in love this time around, Jeremy and Phoebe will have to dredge up and smooth out their past, and learn to trust one another. Overall this was a tough story to read because of the emotional struggles the characters faced. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was certainly a bumpy ride for Jeremy and Phoebe, that which I went along for. They had such a sizzling and indomitable connection that gave way to an intensely passionate story. The flashbacks that the author spread throughout the book were perfectly placed and they presented the differentiation between the characters of the present and the past. Seeing the way they started out their relationship all those years ago allowed me to see the reasoning behind Phoebe and at times even Jeremy’s hesitation in pursuing their second chance at love. They clearly pointed out the growth the characters had and characteristics they still held. I loved the imperfections both of these characters possessed. This story showed the ugly truth of jealousy’s catastrophic influence on relationships. Did the characters make mistakes and jump to conclusions countless times? Absolutely. But that’s the reality of letting jealousy consume your thoughts and behavior. This was a frustrating read in the sense that I wanted to yell at the characters for not believing in one another and simply taking a moment to analyze the situation before reacting. There were several moments that had me anxious and worried whether they’d even be able to sort things out. On the other hand, I enjoyed seeing the way they kept coming back together and eventually discussing the issues slowly but surely. Kim Karr has created yet another successful stand-alone outside of the Connections series. This second chance romance will have you reeling from the emotional journey Jeremy and Phoebe embark upon.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. Toxic is the perfect name for this story. It starts with Phoebe St. Claire, daughter of well to do parents that are like royalty. She is about to marry Dawson Vanderbilt and she is having more than cold feet. She keeps thinking about Jeremy, the guy she met on her 21st birthday in the Hampton's. While they spent part of the summer together she didn't mention her real last name. After he disappeared, she could not believe the hurt she was feeling. So now five years later she is with Dawson but something is not right and she knows what it is. Jeremy has always been on her mind and in her heart. When Jeremy returns back into her life, she feels the guilt of lying to him and wonders if he has forgiven her and can she forgive herself? This story is full of mistrust, jealously, fear, uncertainty and not to mention the people trying to keep them apart. With all of Phoebe's friends and her mother, can she forgive the past and move forward with Jeremy? Will Phoebe ever believe in Jeremy and not listen to the lies? Can Jeremy forgive her and they live happily ever after? I love Kim Karr's way of telling a story, she will pull you in, rip your heart out and put it back together by the end. **Wicked Reads Review Team**

This book is intense. I don’t think there was a moment when I could just sit back and breathe, the emotions, good or bad were always churning. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something you should prepare for. The angst and emotional turmoil is heavy and at times, I wondered if I should take a break and recover. But, I couldn’t. I had to see where the story was going, I needed to see Phoebe and Jeremy reach their happy ending. There is something that just isn’t quite “right” throughout the book. It kept my attention, always wondering what it was and when I would discover it. Phoebe and Jeremy’s relationship has been fraught with misunderstanding, overreactions, and a little stupidity. On the flip side, these strong emotions and reactions are what make their passion and love burn so bright and hot. The chemistry between these two is explosive and I was fanning myself quite frequently when they were steaming up the book. Jeremey is a complete contradiction. Like everyone, he fights the darkness within, but when he sees Phoebe again, he is determined to eradicate it completely. Unfortunately, it’s easier said than done and those demons keep making an appearance, especially when it involves the sins of his past. I truly loved Jeremy and his dedication to making things with Phoebe work. His need for her to believe in him, to trust him causes a lot of friction but it stemmed from such a sad place that I couldn’t help experiencing the pain and yearning along with him. Phoebe was harder to accept. She shows bouts of strength, but even when she does, she constantly second guesses herself. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of her fears behind Jeremy’s motivations are completely justified. However, things wouldn’t have blown up quite so much if she didn’t make some thoughtless decisions. The whole situation with Dawson was a little hard to swallow. I don’t care how confused and hurt you are, letting your ex “comfort” you, especially when you know he wants you back, was just ridiculous. She gains a stronger sense of self in many situations, particularly in regards to her job. But, when it comes to Jeremy, she is whole with him, and broken without. Some people might look at that as a crutch, a negative personality trait. They would think she is weak and has no sense of self. However, I disagree. I think when you’ve found that kind of love, you become one. So, why wouldn’t you break if you lose your other half? They are strongest together. Would Phoebe have been able to pick up the pieces and go one with her life? I think so. But, I can understand not wanting to, the devastation that would always keep her a little bit fractured. There are some really interesting dynamics with the secondary characters in this book. Some of them are quite essential to the story line and so following their journey’s kept it even more interesting. I just loved Jamie, he is that true friend, the one who love and supports you, but respects the boundaries laid down by having a boyfriend/girlfriend. Even more, that he became good friends with Jeremy, it says so much about his character, beyond what he lets the world see. I would have loved to read a book about him. The story wraps up in some expected and some really rather unexpected ways. The tale the author weaves is complex, but I was never lost, just uninformed, as was the point. I have to say, the epilogue was PERFECT. After such intensity, it opened up the window and I could breathe, basking in their happiness and p

Toxic is Kim Karr doing what she does best. This story will have you on the edge throughout. The way she writes Phoebe and Jeremy’s story is breathtaking, heart wrenching and tension filled. Two people who are “Toxic” for each other, yet so right for one another. Jeremy McQueen will steal your heart, leave you breathless and wanting so much more. He is all of my favorite book boyfriends wrapped into one fine package. Phoebe St. Claire is the type of heroine that I like. Strong, feisty, with just the right amount of femininity to make her loveable. The tension is this book is palpable. You feel it in every inch of your body. The sex is off the charts between these two. No two characters have had me cheering them on like I was for them. I couldn’t put the book down. I feared that the story would take a turn I wasn’t ready for. You feel their love and understand the torment that is their relationship. You will hate them both for the decisions they make and hold your breath in anticipation of a happy ending. This is by far my favorite Kim Karr book to date. I’m really hoping there is a spin off for some of the secondary characters. That would be awesome!
