Everyone has a secret...

Gabe Hyde is on borrowed time. He's been hiding his identity for over four years-hidden from the world that used to adore him--obsess over him--driven to the edge of insanity by one poor choice.
But that one choice, altered the course of his life forever.
Pretending isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when pretending means hiding your real self from the people that care about you the most. But if anyone ever discovered the truth it wouldn't just be his life at risk--but hers.

Saylor doesn't hate men.
Just Gabe.
Only Gabe.
He's a reckless, happy-go-lucky, silver spoon fed pain in her ass. Everything about him makes her more and more confused. Unfortunately they both donate time at the same Group Home. If she wasn't afraid of flunking, she'd be long gone. She hates that she's attracted to him almost as much as he hates that he's attracted to her--and she can tell, especially since their first encounter ended up making her knees so weak she couldn't form coherent sentences for weeks afterwards. But the closer she gets to him, the more confused she becomes. He isn't who he says he is, and he's hiding something big.

What happen when two worlds collide? Two worlds that never should have met in the first place? Some secrets are too big to be hidden forever--the only question? Will his destroy everyone he loves? Or finally bring about the redemption he's been craving for the past four years?

Everyone has a secret...What's yours?

5 ?s "Sometimes when we think God has written the end, what he really means is the beginning." This book....I just finished it a couple of hours ago so I am going to try and get my thoughts in order. I'll probably just keep this review simple. I LOVED it! I started it out very confused. I had no idea what was going on. I thought about going back and rereading Ruin because I thought I missed something. I'm glad I didn't. A reread isn't necessary. It will all come together for you and pretty quickly, too. This story was heartbreaking and it was beautiful. It had me full on ugly crying. That is very rare for me. I tear up, I get sad but I usually don't ugly cry. I sincerely felt Gabe's pain. I loved Gabe. I am a sucker for the tatted up, sad musician. They're my weakness. I loved the chapter quotes at the beginning of each chapter title. I think I highlighted all of them. I thought they were beautiful and went with the story wonderfully. "Music without passion is merely noise. A life without passion? You may as well be dead." I do have a couple of complaints. I wish I had gotten to know Saylor more. I felt like I couldn't connect with her. I liked her just fine but I'm sure I would've loved her if we had gotten more about her. The story felt short. It was 240 pages but I could've read more. I wanted MORE! I would've also have liked more between Gabe and Saylor. I wanted more on their relationship. It seemed so fast. None of my complaints take away from the story any though. It was still beautiful. Hell, it had me ugly crying, it gets 5 stars for that alone. Again, I loved it. Loved it more than Ruin, actually. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. Go get this book!(Hell, it was only $1.00. I've read plenty of awful books that cost way more than this one) If you liked Ruin, you'll love this one. "Baring your soul to someone is like purposefully stabbing yourself in the heart and waiting for the person you love to stop the bleeding."

A beautiful mess. The story you would never forget. The wait for this sequel was surely worth the wait. This is treasure!  Rachel Van Dyken did it again--- making readers cry. Yes, prepare boxes of Kleenex because one wouldn't be enough. You've been warned. This is not your ordinary romance story. This is the deepest of all deep. I hope you're up for all the heavy emotions that Toxic will bring. It is full of emotions and when you think you've cried enough, you've shed a lot of tears again, and again, and again.  The depth of the characters that you will find connection too. Wes, the best friend that will move mountains for Gabe; Saylor, who's strength and unconditional love knows no boundaries and Gabe... He is everything. He's a very messed up guy that will not make your heart squirm with all the cheesy lines, but will cut through your heart of his pain and the beauty behind it. And Princess? Yes, I love her. She's a secondary character that will make you cry, not sob, but cry.  The incorporation of music is perfect. As what Rachel told, she induced music into the story to explain the emotions the characters are going through. This beauty of music blended well with the emotions that were thrown in the story. And have I told you? Authors are the Taylor Swifts in the book world. Attention to any labels or artists to put melodies on Rachel's words! Rachel makes all her stories beautiful, but Toxic? Beautiful would be an understatement. Toxic will take you through life's difficulties and the rainbows after it.

What a fantastic story! I laughed and cried and cried some more. Gabe/Parker/Ashton is a tormented soul with a capacity to love that takes your breath away. The "Ruin" series just gets better! I can't wait for Lisa's story.

Oh this book! First the editing wasn't perfect; the ages told in the book kept being off. First they were 16 in the hotel when "it" happened then he says they were 17. Other than that minor confusion, I LOVED THIS BOOK! I have never highlighted a book as much as I have this one, there was just so many touching and inspirational parts. I connected with Gage. I felt like I very nearly did bleed for him. This book is such a fantastic read!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it definitely deserves it. Gabe was one of my favorite secondary characters from Ruin so I was thrilled that he got his own book. Saylor is a new character and she reminds me of Kiersten. They both have a smart mouth and don't tend to take anything from anyone. Gabe tried to act tough but you can tell that he's hiding something big and boy oh boy is it big. Rachel throws in bits and pieces of Gabe's past but I was still thrown when it all came to light. There is so much that surprised me in Toxic and I still have a couple of questions - I'm curious about something that I read. Rachel Van Dyken always gives her readers her full attention and her full heart when she tells someone's story. The fact is that I don't honestly know too many authors who can tell a story quite the way that she does. She puts everything into and we, as readers, take it all and I'll admit that I definitely want more. I laughed and I cried and I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. Reading this ARC just so I wouldn't go to sleep wondering what would happen. This is a must read for everyone who is a fan of Rachel's books and I can't wait for Lisa's story and Fearless. Thanks Rachel for everything that you do and for caring about your readers as much as you do!

ARC received for honest review. 5+ STARS Well, what an AMAZING book. This book is so worth more than 5 Stars!!! Rachel Van Dyken has done it again with her incredible talent for writing such emotional books. Her words, her characters, all make you feel a part of the story and when it ends, you want more……. TOXIC is the next book after RUIN and is Gabe and Saylor’s story. We still see Wes, Kiersten and Lisa, but reading about Gabe and his life story and his secrets is something I never imagined. We find out who he really is, how something from his past is still affecting his life in such a heartwrenching, profound way. We read about his “Princess” and the impact she had on love, life and the sadness behind it all. Gabe’s ability to mask his emotions, covering up the intense sadness he feels, is noticeable only to those closest to him. His battle to survive the everyday is hard at times and it’s great that Wes was able to help him, albeit in Wes’s ways they were rather extreme but got him over it. Wes has a heart of gold and you can’t help but love him. Saylor understood the need for Gabe to get his feelings out through music and that eventually worked both ways. At one point in the book, I was almost a blubbering mess…..but all in all..such a great read, you will need to read RUIN first, but make sure both books are on your TBR list. I would always recommend Rachel’s books, she has incredible talent.

Emotionally touching!  Hurt, tragedy, guilt, pain are some of the emotions swirling around this story but most of all it is one of Hope and a HEA!  A great second book of the Ruin series.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is one of those books that is hard to review without giving away any spoilers, so I’ll do my best. Much like Ruin, Toxic is not your average fairy tale. It opens us to the world of Gabe, which I can promise you, is nothing like you would have expected. I was hooked from the Prologue. After reading that, I just could not get enough of Gabe and his story. I wanted, no – needed, to hear his story. I needed to know why he was the man that he was.  There is a major overall theme of the power of music in Toxic. As someone who is really healed through music, the words and the images they conjured really resonated with me. I loved that we got to see this side of Gabe that turned to instruments rather than girls when he was troubled. It completely changed my perspective of him from Ruin. I could totally see (and hear) him sitting down at the piano and letting every ounce of feeling flow from his fingertips releasing his pain. Just the thought brings me to chills from how moved I was at the experience of this book.  For those who were fans of Ruin, we do get a little of Wes, Kiersten, and Lisa. However, this is really about Gabe’s journey to where he is and who he is – so it’s not a ton of them. We are introduced to Saylor though who is probably one of my new favorite heroines. I was skeptical at first because of the name, but it makes for some cute banter and jokes! The way she is able to put all of her “stuff” aside in order to just be a source of strength and a friend is truly admirable. It’s a beautiful feeling to watch develop. Warning – this is a sad story, but it is a different type of sad story. When Rachel described it that way, I didn’t understand. After you read, you definitely will. You will absolutely be satisfied and completely fulfilled in the end – it’s just a ride to get there. Rachel has a beautiful way with words – she is truly gifted. Some of the things that she says is just so profound and inspiring that you can’t help but to reread it and take it to heart. I’ve never come across an author who is able to touch my soul with words the way that hers do. Now I’m just counting down until the novella, Fearless, where I get more of these amazing characters!

T.O.X.I.C is another MUST READ BOOK! 5++++++ I don't think a 5 star review could give justice to this book. Disclaimer: I am not a blogger, I suck in writing..all I have is a passion in reading and appreciation for the authors who are creating awesome books. and my review is not the typical review that you read because I always write based on my emotions after I've read the book. I first read Toxic last Feb.7..exactly 10 days after my I loss my DAD, I was having a a dry spell in reading... Then I received an ARC of this book.Gabe never appeal to me as Book Boyfriend Material, I am a self confessed Wes Michels girl (to those Rachel Van Dyken's fan I know you know what I am talking about; to those who are looking for a nice book.. Ruin is the first book of Toxic BUT you can read these book as stand alone.. RUIN is Wes Michels story and Toxic is Gabe's). Now that I've learned Gabe's story I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I finished the ARC around 2:53 am..I just can't put it down..As always Rachel never fails to bring out different kinds of emotions over me through her gift in writing.TOXIC for me is another book that will hold a special place in my heart besides RUIN.W H Y?Because, TOXIC came to me during the time when I really needed it... The time when I am in the process of LETTING GO and HEALING. This book made me feel like I have a personal connection to the words written in it- as if the book is really made for me right in that moment that I am grieving and it helped me ease the pain. So no matter what this book will always be special to me.thank you Rachel for writing another magical masterpiece, I've read your Acknowledgements..and maybe the reason why this book fels close to home because we all deal with the emotions of losing someone we love and we all need to deal with the pain and all the process that have to got rough with YOU definitely DID it and I thank you for that... For this book... Now it is time for me to Re read again...

Gabe is the sort-of bad boy that you just have to love. The tortured soul with a heart of gold. He was quite a different character in this book than he was in Ruin. I got to experience a side other than the best-friend Gabe. I got to experience the man running from his past and doing anything to make it right again. I really loved Saylor. She was such a breath of fresh air. I loved how she stood up to Gabe and his bad attitude. She was such a sweetheart. But he was not very nice to her - he makes her cry. But when he tries to make it up to her, I thought I was going to cry because it was just so awesome. Gabe's story is quite a hard one. Once we find out all of what he's running from, you will totally understand his actions and why he feels like he does. Lots of amazing dialog, and we get some more Wisdom from Wes (I really love that guy).
