Children's Literature - JoAn Watson Martin
After winning Best of Breed at Westminster Dog Show, Casey's picture appeared on cans of a new dog food. His ancestors were used in fox hunting in England. The terrier's bat-like ears point straight up which gives the little dog excellent hearing. Many Toy Fox Terriers work as therapy dogs visiting hospitals and nursing homes. Their sharp sense of hearing makes them perfect to be trained for hearing impaired people. Some owners have run their pet for mayor of their city and the dog won! Dog owners bred the toy fox to be smaller and asked the American Kennel Club to list the tiny breed as a new breed. They had to wait eighty-five years for the AKC to rule that they were a new breed, truly an American creation. Goldish has included research on Toy Fox Terriers, qualifications for Best in Show, a glossary, index, bibliography, and online websites. Sidebars add to the factual knowledge of the little dog's history, its appearance, and its personality. Dunleavy located numerous, colorful action shots. This series would be excellent for a person trying to decide which dog to get as a pet. The series, "Little Dogs Rock II," spotlights six different breeds. Reviewer: JoAn Watson Martin
