Overview

Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he's cut off all ties to his former life so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how.

Alone.

So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.

But Kaine's gruff demeanor doesn't scare her. She's set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn't mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband's betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.

Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper's lifetime—and Kaine's worst fear.

***ALL TJE STARS*** Piper Campbell! The newest resident of Lark Cove! Sarcastic and quickwitted, yet so very vulnerable. Life has not been very kind to her, yet she keeps moving forward. Keeps living through her brokenness as truths about her life before Montana are revealed. Simply put, Piper Campbell is indestructible. Kaine Reynolds is a grinch. A big mountain of a snappy man always with short answers. Preferring isolation and quietness, Kaine is not living life at all. He's simply existing on his secluded mountain. The man he was before—now invisible. Instead, a gloomy version of himself remains—angry and dejected with a sense of foreboding. Soon, Kaine's desolate life is interrupted when he gets a new neighbor. A new neighbor who recognizes the pain he is harboring upon first perusal. A beautiful woman that takes the broken pieces he offers as her own, filling up her brokeness. But she gives, too. Gives him magic. Gives him healing. Gives him calm through his raging storms. The center that always seems to bring him back to gravity. And oh boy, together they were sensual and sultry, seductive and just downright passionate about each other. Falling blindly into a love affair that was never expected. From enemies to friendly neighbor's to parallel lovers—Kaine and Piper were, in fact, kindred spirits that found solace in one another. Devney Perry once again shows her talent for penning such beautiful imagery throughout her novels. But she doesn't stop there! She brings you into her world, pours her heart out into her words, solidifying you as a staple in her towns. With quick references to the town that started it all and foreshadowing of what's to come, this is a book you finish and immediately wish to relive every gasp, every stolen breathe, every punch to the soul and squeeze to the heart. And though I say it often, this is a book that just so happens to be my new favorite, Devney Perry novel!! Bewitching, compelling, and emotionally charged—Tragic is by all means tragic, yet filled with immense magic and a happily ever after worthy of all the turmoil!

I loved that there was something that both characters were dealing with in their own personal lives that helped them grow together. It took time to develop the plot, which I enjoyed.

Piper has moved to Montana to help her boss Logan. This is her chance to get away from her cheating ex husband. After they found out that she couldn't get pregnant he cheated on her. Her broken heart needed a fresh start. She thinks maybe a fling with her grumpy new neighbor might be just what she needs. Kaine has been hiding out in his mountain cabin for the last few years. After tragedy tore his world apart he needed space to deal with his anger. I LOVED Tragic. This book had so much heart and soul. I fell absolutely in love with Piper and Kaine. This book takes your emotions all over the place from laughter to tears. This is the first series I have read by Devney Perry but I have loved every page. Looking forward to Tinsel book #4.

Gosh this had tears running down my face, the heartache of both characters so raw. As the story moves forward Kaine especially still struggles with his loss and what happened, it takes most of the book to find out the whole story of that so keeps us guessing. His pain is understandable so is the constant worry as events unfold, that Piper is understanding and giving love and space when its needed shows she is a good person and deserving of unconditional love. The subject matter in the plot is real, this stuff happens in life and even though this is fiction and not based on true life the writer has a way of making it seem so. All three books so far in this series are deep and meaningful, each have different topics and heartache that kept me reading. I recommend buying them all when you start the first one because you will want to go straight into the next book as you finish each one, as I did. I would say that for anyone who has suffered the loss of a very young child you may find some parts of this a little hard, I still feel though that you would still enjoy the story as a whole. Well written with a great flow and consistency throughout this and the other books, emotional content and explicit sexual content, this one also contains some violence. You need tissues.

Devney Perry did it again! Her books only get better and better. Kaine is now my favorite character by her. He is the definition of alpha hero and his pain was so deep, so real. I loved every single line of this book. I wish it had a couple more hundred pages so I could have more of Kaine and Piper. This book broke me and put me back together. And more importantly, it surprised me over and over again. Whenever I thought something expected/cliché was going to happen, Perry did a 180 and gave me something amazing. This book is pure MAGIC.

WOW! Devney slays it with this book! This is one of those books where you have to savor moments because the story is so emotionally raw and beautiful! Piper and Kaine, two characters I instantly fell in love with! We’ve known and loved Piper from the beginning of Lark Cove. What we didn’t know is that she’s been hiding her pain from the world. Determined to forge ahead, she’s rebuilding her life in Lark Cove. Not letting anyone know, that behind it all, she’s broken, shattered and struggling. Kaine has suffered a tragic and horrendous loss he can’t overcome. He has left everyone and everything behind to hide in the Montana wilderness. These two have more in common than they know. Both souls suffering the anguish of betrayal, leaving everything behind for the sake of survival. But, Kaine’s suffering is so great I don’t think it’s possible to come back from such devastation. Despite the strength in the walls they have built, they are still remarkably vulnerable, scared, and yearning for love. Luck makes them neighbors. Chemistry makes them bed buddies. But what happens when it becomes more? What happens when magic cake is served? Despite the angry cave man persona Kaine displays, I loved the playfulness he exhibits with Piper. The scene where he measures her ear is hysterical. With Piper he starts to feel whole again. She is the perfect person to bring him back into the human world. Well, that and magic cake. “I’d just been drifting-until a beautiful woman came into my world and saved it with her magic cake.” “A sense of pride filled my chest, squeezing out the pain from past memories, knowing I was the cause of his smile and laugh was empowering. I did that. Me. I made Kaine smile. He made me forget.” But, the healing isn’t for Kaine alone. Piper is becoming stronger and able to break the ties needed for her healing as well. It isn’t an easy road for these two. The challenges are real and the damage is great. But, I found that the devastation being as unbearable as it was, made the beautiful moments all the more magnificent. A reminder to us all that we need stop and smell the roses. This is a very well written and deeply moving story!

Another awesome and amazing book by Devney Perry! Tragic is the third installment of Devney Perry’s Lark Cove Series. I am absolutely blown away by this series. Each book gets better than the ones before it. Even though this is the third book in her series it can be read as a standalone. You get some characters from previous books but along with that you get new characters to fall in love with. From the first page I was drawn in and did not stop reading until it was over. I did not want it to end. I love how Devney can take such tragedy and turn it into something so beautiful. I just love her writing style it is so emotional. This book will having you going through all your emotions you will crying, you will feel the hurt of the characters and you will feel the joy that they find. It’s all there. I highly recommend this book and series to all romance readers you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait for the next book.

4.5 Stars Review by Amy W. Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Devney Perry’s Lark Cove series just gets better and better. Tragic, the third book in the series, involves neighbors that become more. Kaine Reynolds just wants to be left alone, but his new neighbor won’t take the hint. Piper Campbell has moved to Lark Cove for a new start and she can see that her grouchy neighbor needs a friend. As their friendship progresses, the two fall into a fling that may end in disaster. OMG! Why do you break my heart so Devney? I just wanted to gather Kaine up in my arms and never let him go. Piper doesn’t have it much better. This story was beautifully written, raw and real. I love this series and I have enjoyed every book thus far. I cannot wait for the next.

This is the third book in the Lark Cove series and so far, it's my favorite. I love small town love stories like this, especially where 2 broken people find and mend each other. Kaine is a very private person who wants to be left alone. He has moved to the mountains of Montana to escape his tragic past so he buys a small house in Lark Cove. The only neighboring house that is close by doesn't have anyone living in it until Piper enters the picture and decides this would be the perfect "fixer upper". She, too, is trying to escape her past. Kaine wants quiet but as soon as the remodeling begins, so does the noise. He sets out to give his new neighbor a piece of his mind, but when he lays eyes on her, things change....like A LOT!!! I loved the emotional roller coaster this book took me on. Piper is one of my favorite heroines because she is full of sass and gives as good as she gets from Kaine. She isn't afraid to speak her mind and Kaine isn't sure what to do with that. He surely does figure it out though. Kudos to Devney Perry once again for making me feel like I was right in the middle of the story. I could see and feel everything that happened in those mountains between those two. I absolutely LOVED it!!!

Devney Perry is a blow you away type of author. i am in awe of her ability to write such beauty. We get swept away into this Lark Cove world, and its like we become a part of the community in the story. We get to know the characters- and even though it is fiction- we fall in love with them over and over. This is the third book, out of four, for this series and i always say this after i read a Devney book- this is my favorite (i can't ever pick- don't make me, they are all astounding.) Kaine Reynolds is a loner- and looking at his life and past, i get why. He is SO cut off from the world in his little bubble and he likes it that way. Over the course of this story though he grows on you, piece by piece- little by little, he opens up more and gives his story away. That's what i love about Devney's heroes, most of the time they are reluctant- reluctant for love, or deem themselves unlovable- but give them a fabulous heroine- and you got yourself a swoon-worthy love story. Piper Campbell- oh lawd, i loved the heck out of her. She was the perfect compliment to the Lark Cove series, and honestly- perfect for Kaine. She just went through a nasty divorce (with a cling-on of a sleaze ex-husband) and she goes to Lark Cove to get away. She is renovating a cabin in the woods- and come to find out, Kaine is her neighbor, cue the hilarity and romance of these two, and talk about sexual chemistry- it was off the charts. i don't think either of them really wanted anything with each other, just the casual kind of love- but its certainly clear neither of them are wired that way. I loved the plot of this story, the character development, and all the different themes that were coursing through the books veins. It was definitely a bit of a slow burn thing, but once they finally got it together, sparks flew and i fell in love with this story! thank you Devney, and i recommend reading books one and two-Tattered and Timid- because you'll get some back story on the other characters- but Tragic definitely could be read as a stand alone!

Kaine and Piper's story is just an emotional piece of amazingness. Devney Perry can write a love story where you grow with the characters and take the journey with Kaine and Piper. Kaine has been through a unbelievable loss and is so isolated you would think nothing could draw him out. Piper leaving New York escapes for her own demons and crashes into Kaine's life. I loved how hard and rough Kaine was! It shows how the pain of his past has molded him into the destroyed man today. I don't want to ruin it but you must read this amazing love story. You get a lot of angst, anger, healing, heat, and love. I loved how you get to visit characters from previous books and now a new chapter. This is my favorite Devney book. Just an amazing 5 star read.

Kaine Reynolds is the kind of tortured soul that you fall in love and root for from the first page. His beautifully broken self longs to be discovered and the Easter eggs of discovery that Devney weaves into the story make it impossible to put down. Piper Campbell is in her own world of hurt and recovery. Montana is a new start for her and lands her next door to a handsome neighbor whom she shared off the charts chemistry with in the form of Kaine Reynolds. I have been longing to know her story since I first met her in Tattered and it was more than worth the wait. The shared pain of their different, but equally difficult paths weaves them together in the most beautiful way to create a healing partnership for both. Tragic is tragic, but beautiful and healing and typical of the magic that I've come to expect from Devney Perry in her Lark Cove Series.

Tragic is another winner from Devney Perry, and she proves tragedy can lead to magic! This is Kaine and Piper’s story. It involves pain and suffering so be prepared to shed some tears. As usual, Perry will make it up to you!!!! Kaine has spent the past years in solitude dealing with a tragic loss that many people would never recover from. He chooses to deal with his pain by himself that is, until a beautiful stranger moves next door completely taking away his solitude. Piper moves to the town of Lark Cove, leaving behind a bitter divorce. She is hoping to find some peace and maybe a chance for a no-strings affair to alleviate the pain after her ex-husband’s betrayal. She loves her new home...her new neighbor, Kaine, not so much! Granted, he is easy on the eyes, but his attitude stinks. Yet, she doesn’t let his anger towards her affect her. There is no mistake, there is a mutual annoyance and frustration between the two of them, but there is also a massive undercurrent of lust. One fateful day, these two cross the line into lust, and things are never the same again! The ingredients of a great story for me need to consist of three things: a good story, great characters, and a great setting. Perry always excels at this! For instance, she had my heart in knots from the prologue. From there, the story fell into place, and I was hooked. She also manages to create characters that I always feel a connection with, and this book was no different. My heart was Kaine’s from the very beginning. I knew he was going to be a complicated and complex character. I might not always be happy with him, and he might make me mad...yet he had a piece of my heart. With Piper’s patience and love, he became the person he was always meant to be. Piper was like a ray of sunshine in Kaine’s dark storm. Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t without her flaws either. She had a hard time trusting men, and I couldn’t blame her. Kaine wasn’t the best person to trust your heart to, but Piper was patient with him. Like Kaine, she wasn’t the same person she was in the beginning either...she was much better. Perry created such a unique, charming town in Lark Cove. The setting is beautiful, and she writes with such detail that I feel like I’m there myself. Each time I return, she shows me something else beautiful and special about it. As I wrote earlier, Devney Perry manages to write a novel that pulls at my heartstring. To me, she is much more than a just a writer, but she is an immensely talented storyteller. That is always what makes me come back for anything she writes!!!!

I have been a huge fan of Devney since she published The Jamison Valley series. I have enjoyed every single book she’s written, including Tattered and Timid. Tragic is no different but I think this one is my absolute favorite so far. I can’t even put into words how much I freaking loved it. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful. I don’t want to spoil it but please, make sure to buy this book the second it goes live. You’ll love every minute of it, I promise. Thank you Devney for writing another fantastic book! 5 Fantastic Stars!

Just. WOW. This book blew me away. There was laughs and tears and everything in between! This amazing author once again hooked me right after the prologue and I couldn't stop reading! Kaine and Piper's story is so beautiful and real that I wish there was a thousand more pages because I want to know everything. Devney Perry has out done herself once again and produced another amazing book!
