Overview

Cat is a sixteen year-old girl that moves from New York to California when she instantly realizes that the stories that she overheard over the years were snippets of the reality of her own life. After moving to California, Cat’s life makes a turn for the worse. Upon meeting her family, some embrace her while others overtly reject her. Confused by why family members met her with resistance, Cat would later find out why her mother fled to New York in hiding for so many years. Unlike her mother, she faces her fears head on, without compromise. Cat makes the decision that through her actions, she will not permit her past to predict her future.

About the Author

Dr. Saniyyah Mayo is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Keynote Speaker, Author, and Screenwriter. Dr. Mayo's strong interest in the social sciences led her to pursue a B.A. in Criminal Justice, in the hopes of working with at-risk youth. She took up an active role in her church's youth ministry. These opportunities exposed her to the complexities of family life and the impact that repeated cycles of behavior can have on an individual's psyche, even if they don't realize it.
Recognizing the importance of the family unit as both a cause of as well as potential solution for a range of recurring social and psychological problems, Dr. Mayo expanded her expertise by beginning graduate study in Clinical Psychology (with a focus on marriage and family therapy) at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA, for which she received a Master's degree. This further empowered Dr. Mayo to make a difference in the lives of people.

This book was great! The book covers so many different issues and topics making it a great read for anyone however, I can really see it being entertaining, beneficial, and relatable for a teenager. It discusses so many of the issues that many teens in today’s society are encountering.

The book engages the reader in the intertwining of individual and family stories with interesting twists along the way. I think many people can identify with the themes and characters as they are presented. I think the gay community might struggle a bit, but the novel leaves the reader with questions to ponder. I am a mature adult and loved this book, and as a high school teacher, I would find this book an excellent choice to read in groups or classes which are sensitively led. Finally, I would recommend this book to anyone who has dealt with generational abuse; the reader is left with clarity and hope.

Transition Of A Butterfly is an excellent read.. very well written.... the story was laid out in realistic everyday life relatable to so many of us. The characters bring to life the reality of so many of us who believe that the life we live is normal....when in reality we have conformed to a learned lifestyle of dysfunction..... I commend Dr Saniyyah Mayo for delivering such a powerful message of awareness.
