About the Author

It's hard to say which was the more pivotal moment of William Gray's travelling career – surviving his first long-haul flight with toddler twins or clinching the coveted Travel Writer of the Year award in 2002. One thing is certain, however. Few people are more qualified than the 38-year-old writer, photographer and father to compile the ultimate reference book on family travel. Not only did William present several family travel pieces for the 2006 series of the BBC's Holiday program, but he is also the family travel columnist for Wanderlust magazine and regularly contributes features to The Sunday Times in the UK as well as numerous international publications. William is married to Sally, an educational editor and author. Their twins, Joseph and Eleanor, have totted up over 350 hours' flying time, investigated the electrical hazards of countless hotel rooms, destroyed the ambience of several dozen restaurants, thrown up in six different car seats, trekked through the Atlas Mountains, kayaked in New Zealand and made fire with Bushmen. Not what I was expecting. I have two little boys (ages 3 and 10 months) and was hoping for some helpful hints of great places to take them, ideas of how to do so without going crazy or spending 12+ hours on an airplane (aka - "going crazy"). This book was written by someone in England, so travel to Western Europe (where most of the recommended travel destinations in the book are) is easy. The section on North America is pretty small, so this book wasn't helpful for me.
