Travelin' Mood

A strong effort from harmonica ace Gary Primich, Travelin' Mood expands on the work he did with his previous band, the Mannish Boys. From the self-penned "House Rockin' Party" to a fine reading on Duke Ellington's "Caravan," Primich and company, which includes Shorty Lenoir on guitar, deliver an album that swings and sways with the best of them. And, unlike other virtuosos, Primich knows better than to let his harmonica playing run away with the album. Yet when he does let loose, as on the instrumental "The Poodle Bites," he shows an instinctive ability for melody and tone that other harp players would kill for.
