Traveling Savannah: A Girl's Guide

Traveling Savannah: A Girl's Guide

Local author, Meredith Gaunce, and local illustrator, Erin Salzer Hanna, are pleased to announce the publication of their travel guide book, "Traveling Savannah: A Girl's Guide: Off the map favorites of a local girl," published in February.

"It is refreshing as a tourist to learn where locals go and what they love about their own city," said Gaunce, a native of Savannah, who geared the book towards the female tourist. A notable fact, as Savannah was ranked among the top ten most popular cities for girls' getaways in the United States by the Travel Industry Association of America and "Rather than just wandering around with the hopes of stumbling across a unique lunch spot or favorite local boutique, women coming to Savannah now have a guide specifically written and designed for them."

In the book, Gaunce, a practicing lawyer in Savannah, writes about her best-loved venues, which include restaurants, shops, spas and more. The book even includes sample itineraries, recommendations of hot menu items, and engaging anecdotes making it as entertaining as it is useful.

A downtown map and nearly 80 color sketches by local artist Erin Salzer Hanna are also featured.

Salzer Hanna, a landscape architect by profession, incorporated Savannah's landscapes into many of her drawings, using "color and shadows that are evocative of Savannah," she noted. Whimsical and fluid, Hanna's sketches are meant to represent "the inviting and relaxed atmosphere of Savannah."

Ideal in size for a purse (5 x 7; 136 pages), this guide is guaranteed to help plan the perfect girl's weekend in Savannah, said Gaunce.

Myself and 3 other girlfriends were looking for a getaway from weekend after weekend of husbands watching nothing but football. None of us had ever been to Savannah, and a quick search led me to Traveling Savannah. This book essentially planned our entire weekend for us! We had an absolute blast and the reviews of everything were spot on! We can't wait to find an excuse to go back in the Spring and continue following all of its recommendations!

This book is an absolute gem. The writing and the illustrations are as adorable as Savannah itself and the author's unique point of view (a girl and a Savannah native) make it honest and genuine. Unlike so many other travel guides that only list activities and landmarks, this book gives girls the tips they'll actually enjoy-- it's like a local showing you the city's best hidden secrets.

I went to college in Savannah back in 2003 and recently went back. I found this great book and was hooked. It has all the best places to shop, eat, and great ideas for day trips. That trip I will never forget. Thanks to Meredith for showing me the best time.

This is what we've been waiting for - an insider GIRL'S guide to a beautiful, historical, quaint southern city! Gaunce knows her Savannah, but more importantly, she knows women. Combine the two, and you have a recipe for fun that can't be dubplicated by the big powerhouse tourist's guides! Tea, shopping, dog parks, and hidden jazz clubs: this is the ONLY book I will carry when I plan my next trip to Savannah. Which, inspired by this book, I will be doing ASAP! This will be my go-to Christmas gift this year (hoping to inspire my girlfriends to go WITH me!) and I know that the beautiful illustrations will make them start to itch for a trip to this gorgeous city.
