Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Traveling the Twisting Troubling Tanglelows' Trail is a picture book on social/family issues for children, grades pre-k-3, written by Greg McGoon and illustrated by Jessa Orr. Oh, those Tanglelows and the problems they can cause! It's so important to be aware of those tricky little monstrosities that are waiting for the moment you feel doubt or negativity. They feed on the sadness, the alienation and the unkindness, growing ever stronger and moving around in a crazy, disorganized blur. They make everyone feel tense and out of sorts, but there are things we all can do to keep the Tanglelows under control. They watch for responses to stress and difficult things and set a trap for the unwary, and they thrive on making their victims feel unhappy and worthless. But they're wrong, you know, and they're really rather easy to defeat. It starts with you feeling good about yourself and being kind and caring. Greg McGoon's charming and whimsical children's picture book, Traveling the Twisting Troubling Tanglelows' Trail, gives kids and their caregivers insights into the crazy things that happen when people don't feel good about themselves, and it offers them real solutions to understanding and changing their outlook on the world. McGoon's rhymes are funny and wise all at once, and Jessa Orr's illustrations are mesmerizing. I couldn't stop looking at the Tanglelows as they frowned their way around each page and loved seeing how the good thoughts were able to neutralize all that negativity. Each panel is brilliant and works so well with the accompanying words. Wise words for anyone, no matter their age, McGoon's tale is a marvelous story time read for all concerned. Traveling the Twisting Troubling Tanglelows' Trail is most highly recommended.
