"All that glitters is not gold", says the adage. The Treasure of Sierra Madre by B. Traven, though, is a real nugget. Set in Mexico, this 1915 adventure about three down and out Americans' quest for gold in the wilderness of the Sierra Madre makes for some fine reading. The dialogue and descriptions of Mexico, as it was before the Drug Cartels moved in, are intriguing. Of course, even then there were dangerous banditos, always on the lookout for anything they could grab from prospectors, particularly gringoes who had followed the oil boom. This minor classic is still a joy to read.
Stories within a story about how gold will affect people. All the situations the characters are put in make the book a good read.
If you have ever asked yourself how you would behave when your best friend may become your worth ennemy, read this book. Great story and good deal of thinking
