Tree of Life
Alexander Blakely is twelve years old, all alone, and adrift. A massive and destructive tsunami hits the California coast and the boy, along with a select few provisions, rides out the wave atop a huge fallen tree. Unfortunately the tree is pulled out into the Pacific Ocean with Alex on it. But Alex is an inventive and resourceful boy who calmly deals with whatever he encounters. He confronts and solves each problem that he must overcome in order to survive.
"Alexander was scared now. He wanted to follow his dad into the house and after a moment of debate made a decision. But as he started climbing down out of the tree, a rumbling and crashing noise rose and he now felt the air being pushed ahead of the wall of water. He stopped his descent and looked west.
Alex watched as the latte colored wave roiled and crashed towards where he now froze with fear. He glanced towards the house that his father had just disappeared into. 'MOM! DAD,' he yelled. 'The wave is coming!' But the rattle and snap of debris along with the roar of the water just ripped at the words as they issued from his mouth. The angry wave splashed around and over everything in front of it carrying away anything loose. There was no stopping it.
Alexander’s heart was racing. He tightly wrapped his arms around a stout branch and braced his feet against another, shut his eyes and waited for the wave to wash over him and the tree..."
Tree of Life is a story of survival, ingenuity, perseverance, and a boy’s drive to be reunited with his family against all odds.
