I was tearful many moments while reading your book, the writing so direct and honest. I thank you for the courage to write it. For me your book's power comes from the interweaving of the personal with the timeline of events, the 'facts' of the war. I remember those points along the timeline, but of course for me they were abstract, distant. Your writing connects them to the truth of what it means to be human, enduring the events and emotions of an extreme situation. It is hard to believe we are still in the throes of this seemingly unending event. Obama declared the 'end' of the war - but it hasn't ended and I often doubt it will have an end. I believe we are just beginning to see the after-effects of this war, and I believe it's going to get increasingly worse. The news reports this year are beginning to show us the extreme nature of the problems and outcomes of our vets suffering from PTSD and left basically alone to handle it. And as a country we are completely unaware of the PTSD and other problems suffered by the families of service men and women. My heart is heavy. I feel guilty as an American citizen and ask myself what I can do. Lori Sikorski
This book was an easy read and made me realize how much sacrifice our soldiers and their families give in the pursuit of our freedom
