Overview

Trouble by Samantha Towle

Mia Monroe is running. Running from a person she doesn't ever want to find her. Running from a past she doesn't ever want anyone to know. Desperate to find a future, that yesterday, she could only dream of having.

Jordan Matthews likes easy. Easy women. Easy life.

Then he meets Mia.

She's damaged, troubled and has more baggage than any person can carry. But the more Jordan gets to know Mia-for the first time in his life-he finds himself wanting to try hard for something ... for someone ... for her.

And then life isn't so easy anymore.

Jordan is everything Mia shouldn't want. A whole bunch of dirty hotness, tattooed, cocky bad boy, who made his money at poker tables and picked his women up in bars. Yet, Mia finds herself falling for him. Then the past Mia was running from, quickly starts to catch up with her. Because that's the problem with running ... you have to stop sometime.

And when you stop, you get caught.

Full length New Adult Contemporary Romance.

Mia has only known pain from men. Her father, Oliver, was a successful surgeon as well as a vicious child abuser behind closed doors. Her boyfriend, Forbes, is also abusive and a successful lawyer. Forbes takes his heartless dominance to a point where Mia finally flees Boston, finally leaving her abusive past behind. Jordan is immature and has sworn off love after seeing his dad fall apart twice from a broken heart. He sleeps with women but never stays long enough for feelings to develop. He has been careless with gambling and alcohol just as he has been careless with women. His best friend, Beth, is the only woman he trusts and is committed to, and she's into women, so romance is perfectly impossible between them. Taking over his father's hotel while he's out of town, Beth sends a tourist his way. A tourist that may not ever leave. This was my first audiobook experience and it had it's ups and downs. On the one hand, I did like the narrator for Jordan, but on the other hand I did not care for the narrator for Mia. I did like that they had alternating narrations, but I did not like that it repeated the same events in some chapters. I liked how deep and dark this book got but I did not like how Jordan's immature and shallow personality was redundantly beat into the reader's head. I apologize for being cryptic but I do not want to give the spoiler away; I am not sure how I feel about the plot twist. I did not see it coming, however, I am not sure how to feel about it. It just seems a bit of a stretch, in my opinion. I got this AudioCD in 2014 from Goodreads Giveaways. I admit, at first, I was a bit disappointed. I expected it to be a physical book, not an AudioCD. I had not read the details completely and since my CD player in my car did not work, I had set it aside and moved on. I went back to it and downloaded it to play on my phone while driving around, but I ended up preferring music rather than an audiobook. Fortunately, I recently got a newer car with a working CD player. I also recently joined a book club and a lot of my fellow members were raving about listening to audiobooks while driving around. My first thought was to fish this audioCD out of the drawer I had stuffed it in and give it another try. Third time was the charm. To those who may be offended or triggered, there were the following in this book: foul language, explicit sexual scenarios, graphic violence, physical abuse, bulimia, parental abandonment, divorce, death, and sexual assault. Please note: An AudioCD of this book was provided for free by Goodreads Giveaways. I apologize that it has taken me over 3 years to finally listen through it. I do sincerely appreciate this as it has helped me learn that I DO actually enjoy audiobooks! I have since started another one and I am confident that I will keep checking them out.

Such an awesome read. This is the first book I read by Samantha Towle and I loved it so much. The story was heartbreaking and I had tears in my eyes most of the time. It just felt so real. Both characters had real life problems and probably suffer through things that most young people have to go through to a certain extent. That made the story and the characters feel close to me. I usually don't start my reviews with the female character but this time I just feel the need to do it. Mia is one of the most interesting characters I've ever encountered in a book. The hell she lived in as a child and teenager, nearly broke her and once she thought she was free she only ended up in a similar situation. I admired her strength when she finally managed to escape and it was fascinating to see how she builds herself again from the bottom. And when she is nearly healed, she is knocked down again. I think that's the moment her inner strength shows the most. It is true that it is completely in the end of the book but I admired her for the way she stood up again and started the healing she so desperately needed. A big part of her growing up as a person is her relationship with Jordan. He shows her that life could be different and there is something beautiful waiting for her in the end. Jordan has scars of his own. And even though looks like quite the bad boy with his tattoos, attitude and string of women, he is quite broken on the inside. His demons torture him and make him feel unworthy of anything good in his life. The thing that shows him different, is his relationship with Mia. They help each other heal and ultimately find something none of them expected. Their HEA. I have to say that that's one of the most heartbreaking stories I've ever read. Both characters are amazingly well developed and their stories deserve to be read. If you haven't read this book yet, I have to say that you are missing a lot. I definitely recommend it and I hope you will consider #one clicking the book because in my opinion this is a must read.

This book had some really good parts and some not so good parts. I am shocked at all the rave reviews to be honest. I for one could do without the mention of his throbbing penis every thirty seconds!!

Samantha Towle messed with my emotions and ripped out my heart at one point in Trouble. Mia is an incredibly strong woman though she struggles to see this in herself. She has lived a life of abuse, both physical and emotional, not knowing who she really is as she tries to navigate these waters to survive. As her world begins to unravel, giving her hope for a different life, she finds the strength to step away from what she knows to search for something she lost as a little girl. As she tries to find her Mom, she ends up finding Jordan. Jordan is a pure soul that has lost his way and is trying to find his way back. We get to experience these two wonderful spirits as they help each other navigate new paths in their lives. Truly a captivating journey for both of them.

This was my first Samantha Towle novel. Loved it! Well written. Loved the chemistry between the characters. I'm sometimes leary about duel POV but she handled it well. Definitely will read more by this author.

Wow. This book was fantastic! It hurt like Hell reading certain parts. I felt her pain, but then I also felt the beautiful love of Jordan and found myself smiling like an idiot. I HIGHLY recommend!

This is my frist book by this author and I am not exactly sure how I found her but i am very glad I did! This story was beautiful. Covering a very real issue it showed, that even when you think you're lost and at rock bottom, you can change things for yourself and there is hope. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Especially those that think all is lost.

I just loved this book. This is the first I have read of this author and just thought she did such a good job building the characters. Loved Jordon and his humor. Would defiantly read another of her books.

Fast paced read the ending was a bit abrupt without a lot of explanation or character building like the "great" friendships Mia created in the town.
