Don't. what ever you do, run into a drug smuggling boat in the Sea of Cortez. The fear that this couple lived with is not to be believed! There are quite a few twists and turns and moments when--well--lets just say you will be wondering if they will make it out alive! There are a few moments where there is comic relief--I especially loved the stray mutt that Emma fed hot dogs--and their friends dog who Emma fitted out with a very elaborate flotation devise with strobe lights attached! Although this was not the Hetta Coffey type book-2 of which I have read by this author--but I liked it. Definitely kept me turning the pages!

This is the first story I've read in the Hetta Coffey series and even though I read it out of order, I'm curious to read the past volumes and learn about Hetta and Jenks' history. Hetta is a spitfire character that women can relate to and readers will fall in love with. Throughout the story she provides plenty of humor, my favorite parts are when she's voicing her dislike of Pam, the new gal pal of her friend Bud. However, Hetta does show her serious side as she and Jenks run for their lives from drug smugglers. There's lots of action and suspense in Troubled Sea, it kept me anxious about what's going to happen next and who was after the couple. Aside from Hetta and Jenks, there other supporting characters, including FBI agent Nicole Kristin and officer Jaime Morales. I was invested in Nicole and Jaime's story and I wouldn't mind seeing a book mainly about them. The ending was action-packed, yet heart wrenching as one of the characters meets his/hers demise. If you're looking for a good suspense novel with lots of action and a dash of humor, I suggest checking out Troubled Sea.
