I loved the book from the beginning. The writing style makes you feel like you are just chatting with a friend while you drink coffee. It flows naturally and it makes it easy to connect with the main character, Caitly. When she first discovers she new gift, the ability to see other people's emotions behind their masks, she deny it. She doesn't want to know that he best friend and her boyfriend really dont care for her and only keep her close because they need something. She feels betrayed and sad, nothing that the boy next door, Eric, can't help with. They are a super cute couple, and Caitly can´t understand how this super handsome guy fell for her, but she gets used to it and learn to just enjoy it. The rest of the characters are well developed and feel real, specially Libby, she is, after Caitly, my favorite character. The book is well written and the plot keeps you interested during the entire book, the last 80 pages flew through my fingers for I couldn't stop reading. I recommend this book for everyone 16+ that love a supernatural story with a little romance, very age appropriated and sweet. Looking forward to reading Two-Faced, The Masks #2 and more books by Melissa.

Exceptional YA Novel! The creative and beautiful cover for this novel is an exemplary example of what lies underneath. I was immediately taken by the sweet and naïve heroine, as I was much like the young woman in my youth. After her true nature is tested, Caitlyn is given an unusual gift that jolts her face-first into reality. We all hide our true selves at some point, be it to spare feelings, or simply to protect our own. While Caitlyn was aware of how many times she had done this in the past, she had never considered someone hiding a dark agenda behind the façade. Being a pure soul, she soon finds herself unable to ignore her new talent, and follows her heart. Of course, the young tend to forget their mortality, which means danger is never too far behind. This is an extraordinary YA novel with a wonderfully unique concept! It’s always a treat to discover a fresh story line with a superb cast of characters. The slight touch of romance is sweet and fitting, considering our hero and heroine, and beautifully written. Full of suspense, comedy, and the paranormal to boot, I highly recommend this novel to all YA fans! I cannot wait to read more from this splendid author! I received this ebook via Evatopia in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

4 Star A great book for all YA fans. Fully developed characters and an exciting plot, with a very slight paranormal twist. Melissa Pearl has brought to life what it would be like if you could look behind someone's mask and see what they are truly feeling. I look forward to reading more of her work.

A thrilling start to a new YA Paranormal Romance! Where do I start? The synopsis alone piqued my interest with the thought of "what would I do if I could peel back the masks everyone wears everyday?" Well, that's exactly what True Colors is all about. Set in sunny California, Caitlyn Davis is the main character that has been "given" such a gift. High school is already difficult as it is, then add this definitely got confusing. Told in Caitlyn's point of view, she takes readers through her journey of accepting this ability some stranger handed to her. When Caitlyn finally accepts and hones her ability, she goes on mission to help those who need it...even though it takes her down a dangerous path. And...because of this ability, Caitlyn was able to see the truth in all her friends and classmates which, in return, made her question her choice in friends. Melissa Pearl created an emotional and insightful paranormal romance...with a touch of mystery and suspense...that can any average teenager faces in high school every day. She was able to create an amazing cast of characters in various stages and stereotypes of young adult life. Quite frankly, many stereotypes are true to form in reality. I was completely drawn in to the story Melissa Pearl created. I even could relate to a few characters.  True Colors made me laugh, cry, empathetic, fearful and relieved for and with the characters throughout the book.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review* True Colors is such a unique and creatively done story. Caitlyn is gifted the ability to see behind peoples “masks” and see exactly what they are truly feeling. While someone may be smiling on the outside, she can pull back the layers and discover their sadness, anger, darkness or whatever it is they are truly feeling. When she discovers secrets within her school she uses this gift to get to the bottom of it and try to help those who need it most. I loved Caitlyn, her internal dialogue was witty and she was a really fun character, but she was also very caring for everyone, truly a good soul, and didn’t hold the same opinions as her high school friends. And of course there is Eric, Le Sigh, I laughed at this part, and have decided to adopt this term and have stored it for future use. I loved when they were together in the book and definitely wanted more of them. There were moments in the book when I was holding my breath, because it was suspenseful and as the reader you know it’s only a matter of time, it was just a matter of when everything was going to come together and information would be revealed. This was a great YA story with a bit of a paranormal twist unlike anything I have read. It’s not vampires or werewolves, its being able to see people’s true feelings and at times that can be scarier than any paranormal being. I really hope the second installment continues to follow Caitlyn and Eric, I think it was a great beginning and I want more of their journey!
