Truth about Muhammad: The Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion by Robert Spencer

Muhammad: a frank look at his influential (and violent) life and teachings
In The Truth about Muhammad, New York Times bestselling author and Islam expert Robert Spencer offers an honest and telling portrait of the founder of Islam-perhaps the first such portrait in half a century-unbounded by fear and political correctness, unflinching, and willing to face the hard facts about Muhammad's life that continue to affect our world today.

From Muhammad's first "revelation" from Allah (which filled him with terror that he was demonpossessed) to his deathbed (from which he called down curses upon Jews and Christians), it's all here-told with extensive documentation from the sources that Muslims themselves consider most reliable about Muhammad.

Spencer details Muhammad's development from a preacher of hellfire and damnation into a political and military leader who expanded his rule by force of arms, promising his warriors luridly physical delights in Paradise if they were killed in his cause. He explains how the Qur'an's teaching on warfare against unbelievers developed-with constant war to establish the hegemony of Islamic law as the last stage.

Spencer also gives the truth about Muhammad's convenient "revelations" justifying his own licentiousness; his joy in the brutal murders of his enemies; and above all, his clear marching orders to his followers to convert non-Muslims to Islam-or force them to live as inferiors under Islamic rule.

In The Truth about Muhammad, you'll learn

- The truth about Muhammad's multiple marriages (including one to a nine-year-old) - How Muhammad set legal standards that make it virtually impossible to prove rape in Islamic countries - How Muhammad's example justifies jihad and terrorism - The real "Satanic verses" incident (not the Salman Rushdie version) that remains a scandal to Muslims - How Muhammad's faulty knowledge of Judaism and Christianity has influenced Islamic theology—and colored Muslim relations with Jews and Christians to this day.

Recognizing the true nature of Islam, Spencer argues, is essential for judging the prospects for largescale Islamic reform, the effective prosecution of the War on Terror, the democracy project in Afghanistan and Iraq, and immigration and border control to protect the United States from terrorism.

All of which makes it crucial for every citizen (and policymaker) who loves freedom to read and ponder The Truth about Muhammad

I would recommend this scholarly work to any one who wishes to know the truth about this so-called 'peaceful' religion. Why I say this is simple--I lived under the auspices of this 'peaceful' religion for most of the last 52 yrs and was subject to all of its true blessings. Believe me, anyone who wishes to know the truth about Islam, without the pleasure of living within its 'hatred of all infidels' society, should read this book. Mr. Spencer, having lived in and studied the Middle East for nearly 40 yrs, has put before the world a warning of imminent doom--being brought on by ingnorance of the facts and the embracing of political correctness. It is a shame that the Western world is not being informed of what is happening right now in Europe. How the PC acceptance of a religion based on 'Surrender' 'the true meaning of the word Islam' is destroying the christian nations of the world. Why I say this is simple: for the first 45 years of my life I was a dedicated Mosque attending Muslim in the Philipines. Then, just a few years ago, an Imam from Iran spoke at my mosque. What he proclaimed as the fundamental right of Islamic law to rule the world through whatever means necessary frightened and dissallusioned many of my family and friends. From that day forward, my once quiet, peaceful mosque, became a center for the promotion of the true intent of theo-political religion. My eyes were opened, and I, at once, left the Philipines and soon after, left the Islamic faith--only to be threatened with death several times before finally escaping to Hawaii. Yes, I know what Islam not only was but what it has become--a threat to all other people and religions. Those of you who are blinded by the touchy-feelly PC nonsense that pervades modern thinking need to open your eyes to the truth--read this book.

I listened to this audio book out of a frustration of why Moslems and Christian aren't natural brothers. We have so much in common, or so I thought. After listening to this book I understand it's not Christianity that's the problem (except perhaps insofar as some strains have become weak and meaningless). The problem is the fundamental teachings of Islam. While some have complained Mr. Spencer did not consult 'all the writings', the history he presented here is nonetheless validated daily in current events and helps one better understand what is happening in the world.

Why do we seem to hear about the two different religions of Islam and Islam? Spencer uses the most widely accepted muslim sources to describe the religious justification for the vast majority of terrorists in the world today. He presents hadiths and sunna that are not disputed, but mainly ignored. He wants to inform others as to why the jihadists cite Muhammad when they engage in terrorism. Also taking modern apologists head on, Spencer reveals why wishful thinking is contradicted by Muhammad's own words and is no substitute for true reform. Don't make uninformed judgements for or against Islam. Get this book and get educated.

This is very one sided. If you want to know the truth, you need to research for yourself. The Quran is a very easy read, and there's only one version. Read it for yourself, and you will have a much better understanding. Why read an entire book, when it would be easier and more accurate to read the Quran yourself?

If you took this book and Tariq Ramadan's (who is actually a Muslim) 'In the footsteps of the Prophet', you would think they were talking about two different people. That is because this book is based on translated sources which then get twisted by the author himself to suit the title of the book and his agenda. Tariq Ramadan, on the other hand, has access to all Islamic sources (not just translated ones). You would get a much better and authentic picture of the Prophet from Ramadan's book, certainly not this garbage.

A very interesting and enigmatic read, taking a fresh look at the life of the Prophet. The novel itself relies solely on primary sources, but Mr. Spencer himself seems slightly geared towards biasing his readers against Islam, something that I assure you, if they are American, they do not need the help. However, simply because the book criticizes Mohammed does not mean it is a rabid and prejudiced attack on Muslims, contrary to some Islamic reviewers sentiments. As well, Christian reviewers are saying that 'now we see the problem is the fundamental teachings of Islam,' that statement is ludicrous. There are hypocrisies and contradictions at the roots of all religions. You believe Islam to be violent and sexist. Well, let's examine this Bible verse of the Old Testament, shall we? In chapter 19 of the book of Judges, an unnamed priest is travelling with a cocubine in in Gibeah. They spend the night in the house of an old man. While eating dinner, men from the village come and demand the old man should hand over his male friend 'so that we may know him.' The man says 'Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly do not do this folly. Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine, know them,' Judges 19: 23-24, look it up. And so the old man gave his own daughter and a woman he barely knew up for brutal rape in order to spare his guest, who was, after all, male, and therefore in his mind infinitely superior to women. Before claiming Islam is anti-women or violent, examine your own faith, why don't you? This book shows the problems and hypocrisies of Mohammed and his teachings, but Christians, don't go running away with the idea that your faith is the purest, best, most wonderful system in the world. If anything, it is the equal of Islam in repression, violence, and misogynism.

This book is nothing but an imagination of a person who afraids living in this world. Robert Spencer defenetily who suffers from Islamophobia. This person has wrote rediculos book about religion. Everybody sees what he or she wants to see, it means that Spencer wants to make people believe that islam is kind of terroristic religion, which will ultimately change readers opinion about islam into 180 degrees.

All of the information presented in this book is incredibly biased towards an audience searching for corruption in Islam. I study Islamic Law at a State University in the US and found this book repulsive and incredibly unacademic. I advise anyone who reads this book to do so with caution. I find it very disappointing that any scholar would publish such a work.

This is the most ignorant book I have ever come across...'Founder of the world's most intolerant religion'?!?! That is the most ignorant statement I have ever read. Read the Quran and teachings from actual scholars to find out the truth about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. This book should be categorized under non-fiction because that is exactly what it is.

I am apalled at this ridiculous statement that Islam is a war-hungry religion and it has no values. My motto is do not judge something if you dont know the truth about it.How is a man that is not a muslim supposed to write a reliable story of Islam and its most valuable prophet. Americans -including the author of this book -are brainwashed into thinking musims are all bombers and terrorists. If you want the truth read the Koran and do your studies to find out the real truth, because I would not go around saying things about christianity or any other religion, so dont do that for Islam. Especially if you dont KNOW!!!!
