I HAVE OWNED A COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS BOOK (1998 EDITION) AND HAVE USED IT ALMOST ON A DAILY BASIS AS I SPEND TIME IN MY HOBBY OF BUYING & SELLING BASEBALL STUFF. I HAVE GOTTEN SO THAT WHEN I AM LOOKING FOR A PRICE TODAY ON ANYTHING I FIND MYSELF MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE USING THE 'OLD' ONE. I ALSO FOUND IT SOMEWHAT CURIOUS AS TO WHY THE EDITOR'S FELT THE NEED TO INCLUDE SO MUCH MORE INTO THIS VERSION AND STILL AND TRY TO END UP WITH THE SAME SIZE BOOK. IT ONLY STANDS TO REASON THAT IF YOU ARE LISTING MANY NEW ITEMS THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE '98' BOOK, THAT THIS NEW BOOK SHOULD HAVE BEEN LARGER, THICKER- MORE PAGES. IT HAS HOWEVER BEEN MAINTAINED APPROX. THE SAME SIZE AND THAT CAME FROM THE SACRIFICE OF SPACE FROM THE ARTICLES IN THE FIRST BOOK. I WILL ONLY GIVE ONE EXAMPLE HERE, BUT BELIEVE ME THERE ARE MANY, MANY MORE. FIRST CHAPTER IS OF HALL OF FAME MEMBERS, AS IT SHOULD BE. IN THE OLDER BOOK THE PRICES WERE MORE DETAILED ACCORDING TO WHAT THEY WERE. IN THIS NEW BOOK FOR EXAMPLE THEY LIST PHOTOGRAPHS & BASEBALL CARDS IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE. THEY ALSO GIVE ALMOST NO ROOM AT ALL FOR THE PEREZ/STEELE CARDS, LUMPING THEM ALL IN ONE GROUP, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES (BESIDES BEING AUTOGRAPHED OR NOT). YES, I KNOW THAT THEY ARE IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK, BUT IS THIS BETTER THAN HOW YOU HAD THEM LISTED LAST TIME?? THEY FAIL TO INCLUDE PRICES FOR BATS AS WELL. THEY ALSO STILL GIVE PRICES FOR 3X5 INDEX CARDS, YES-THAT'S HOW THEY DID IT WAY BACK WHEN AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR VINTAGE SIGNATURES BEFORE THE 1950'S, YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW THIS; BUT TO USE THIS IN LISTING PRICES FOR CURRENT PLAYER'S SEEMS ODD. I ALSO AM SOMEWHAT CURIOUS AS TO WHY MY 1953 ST. LOUIS BROWNS (with SATCHEL PAIGE) TEAM SIGNED BALL LOST ALMOST 1/2 OF IT'S VALUE. (IT WENT FROM $400 DOWN TO BETWEEN $175-$250) DOES SATCH KNOW ABOUT THIS??? HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT? WHILE I'M ON THE SUBJECT OF TEAM SIGNED ITEMS- WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE FORMAT?? IT LOOKS CONFUSED IN THIS NEW BOOK. IF I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER, I WOULD HONESTLY THINK THAT THIS NEW BOOK WAS A CHEAP IMITATION OF THE OLD ONE DONE BY SOMEBODY ELSE. WHY IS THERE NO EXPLANATION FOR THE COLOR PHOTO'S ON PAGES 305 -320?? YOU COULD HAVE AT LEAST PUT DOWN THE PAGE NUMBER TO LOOK THE STUFF UP. WELL, I HAVE PUT IN MY 2 CENTS WORTH. NOW, BEFORE YOU GET UPSET WITH ME, PLEASE UNDERSTAND 1 THING, OK?? I AM IN LOVE WITH THE FIRST EDITION OF YOUR PRICE GUIDE, I'VE USED IT IN MY HOBBY LIKE I USE MY BIBLE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I WILL GET USED TO THIS NEW ONE AND MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE, BUT-- YOU ALL COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB, THAT IS MY OPINION OF YOUR BOOK. THANK-YOU FOR READING THIS. LAST THING- IF YOU THINK THAT MY 1953 BASEBALL HAS LOST SO MUCH VALUE. PLEASE SEND ME A LIST OF THE OWNERS WHO HAVE THESE BASEBALLS FOR SALE AT $175. I WILL BUY THEM. ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM AWARE OF THE PASSING OF MR. PAIGE. I CRIED THAT DAY.
