Overview

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me... Until he wasn't.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could've been so much more. It could've been so much better.

And that's why I'm turning back.

I could not put this book down. Just could not wait for all the answers to be revealed from the first book.

The only thing not included in this book is friction. And you're going to need that! JA Huss is killing it with this series. It was so fun spending more time with my favorite quad... er tri. We pick up a year after book one ends(if you don't know what I'm talking about find Taking Turns and start there). I had so many question and a lot get answered. For awhile I *may* have been rooting for the wrong guy. I wasn't. Huss gives us everything we need in this story. I love Smith, Quin and Bric. They are a team. Rochelle os finally back and we get some answers. I am so excited for book three I can't stand it. I can hardly wait to see what Huss has up her sleeve!

Turning Back is the second book in J.A. Huss’ Turning Series. Taking Turns (book 1) is dark and erotic. While Turning Back has plenty of smoldering scenes, it doesn’t have the same dark, sinful vibe. Turning Back’s intrigue, complicated manipulations, and unique love story kept me riveted. This is Rochelle’s story. Her abrupt, unannounced departure leaves Quin, Smith, and Bric stunned. Her departure is also the start of the series. The rules of their “game” state there’s no coming back, but Rochelle is a rule breaker. Her reappearance is as mysteriously abrupt as her departure. How does she fit in now that Smith is out and Quin and Bric are not speaking? Even more fascinating is how her latest secret will impact the group. The continued development of the characters is fantastic. At first introduction, the characters are rather shallow players, each one trying to hide from something. Some seem more downtrodden than others, and some seem more superficial. As the story progresses, the characters’ backstories and fears are revealed. Their walls eventually crumble. Chella and Smith become secondary characters whose main role is to stir things up and move the plot along. Quin, the most affected by Rochelle’s disappearance, has had time to ponder the nature of their relationship (and by ponder I really mean torment himself). Even better than Smith becoming less detached in Taking Turns, I loved Quin’s backstory. This now reserved and resentful guy has a history that melted my heart. And Bric, that controlling, self-centered, dominant, is just a gooey marshmallow on the inside. His behavior is quite shocking! He appears to be a changed man. He falls hard for Rochelle’s baby, and takes to the role of daddy like it was his dream come true. Doth the man complain too much about his nieces and nephews? The layered lies and intrigue kept me guessing until the end. Who is being played? Will anyone win? Will the loser gut me or make me cheer? I was beyond trying to figure out the story line, and I just sweated through the ride. The tension and the promise grow with each paragraph. It has been a long time since I read a book in one sitting; I raced to the finish, and then instantly regretted not having more of the story to read. In the end, I was happy, sad, and eager to get my hands on the next installment of the series.

The Turning series is my little guilty pleasure. It is super sexy and touches on a subject I usually don't read and honestly didn't understand. But J.A Huss has written the series in a way that makes sense to me. In book two, Turning Back, we meet Rochelle and her baby, Adley. Quinn and Bric are both potential fathers to baby Adley. The two men and Rochelle enter in to a relationship together. The dynamic between all of them is quite interesting. I enjoyed seeing their story play out and getting to see Chella & Smith again. I'm also looking forward to reading the next story in the series.

I'm sure I say this in every review for a JA Huss book, but I just love how her imagination works. From the very first page -- or even the cover sometimes! -- her books grab me and don't let go. I'm always on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens, and she never disappoints. And as you're reading one in a series you have no idea how she's going to pull it all together at the end but she does. I love her books!! Automatic one click for me!!

WOW! Wow is my typical reaction when I finish a Huss book. She always manages to throw me for a loop even though I expect a loop at some point in her stories. Honestly, I’m struggling for the right words to convey my feelings and how exceptional the reading experience is. I never feel like I do Julie’s books justice Turning Back by JA Huss is the second book in the Turning Series and again closing the book I think to myself WOW. I’ve learned over the years that a Huss book is will be full of surprises. The surprises are rarely what I envision at the start of the book or a series. Julie is a master at keeping me guessing out of the gate and Turning Back is no different. Rochelle returns to the game after Elias “Bric” Bricman tracks her down. Bric is lost without the game, and even though he tries to play with another friend, Jordan, the women don’t work out. Bric misses Quin who doesn’t want anything to do with him anymore. Quin is angry. The only way to restore their friendship is to start what is comfortable; a version of the old game, a threesome with Bric, Quin, and Rochelle Smith and Chella are in an exclusive relationship now. They still have lunches and other associations with Quin and Bric individually, however, they do not spend time together as a quad any longer. The game as they all played it in the past is non-existent. The characterizations are well thought out and continue to develop from book 1 Taking Turns. I love the characters in this series. They stir a variety of emotions as Rochelle and Quin attempt to reconnect. Quin doesn’t know who is telling the truth anymore and who is lying. Quin and Rochelle still love each other, but all the lies and hurt are a roadblock to moving forward. Also, Bric isn’t as cold as he used to be. There is something different about him now, and he is sharing—something new for Rochelle. Julie Huss writes beautiful, explicit and realistic sex scenes in a threesome relationship very well. They fit with the setting of The Turning Point sex club owned by Bric, and the sex game that is central to the plot. They are appropriate within an engaging, emotionally captivating storyline. Ms. Huss takes us on a journey that makes me anxious to the point that my stomach is in knots. The pacing of the story is perfect with continuous action continues from beginning to end. Told in the alternating points of view of the three players in this book, Bric, Rochelle, and Quin. The last quarter of the book tears me up on a couple levels and has me question everything I thought about the game and the players. So Good! In summary, Turning Back is a compelling story; well written that delivers an exhilarating, passionate, sometimes funny, and sometimes intense experience. There are emotional elements to this tale that deal with trust, loyalty, love, and friendship and sets up the next book in the series perfectly. I can’t wait for His Turn, the next installment in the Turning Series to see what JA Huss and Elias Bricman has up their sleeve for the final segment of the game. Thanks for the EOBS.

Truly, madly, deeply, and deliriously in love with this book! No one, and I mean no one does dark romance like J.A. Huss. Romance, sex, lust, love, and loyalty all come together in this book to create something truly extraordinary. The plot is intriguing and the characters just jump off the page. They are real and raw and beautifully flawed in all the best ways, making them so damned relatable that you just can't help but become invested in their lives. I was hooked from page one and remained riveted to the very last word. This book and series, above and beyond the romantic factor, is about self-exploration, self-realization, and self acceptance. Two people come together, each believing themselves unworthy of love and devotion, and find salvation in one another. This book will touch you and make you really think. I would highly recommend this compelling and provocative book, and I anxiously await the next book in the series. *I was given an ARC of this book by the author and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.

Turning Back brings us more Quin, Bric, Smith, Chella...and Rochelle. Questions from the first book are answered and we are left with questions for the next book. I really loved getting to know Rochelle. Why she stopped playing, why she ran, who she is. Rochelle is more complicated than I was expecting. She's surprising and refreshing. The boys are explained a bit more too, digging in deeper to Quin and Bric. Smith even exposes himself more as we get further into the world of Taking Turns world. It's hard to review this without spoilers- so let me just say, this book broke my heart, made me laugh, made me frustrated and it's an odd subject, but the way it's done, IT WORKS. There is a lot going on, quickly, there is a lot of information. It's complicated, but easy to follow. It's a must read, and it does NOT standalone. The first book, Taking Turns, must be read first
