Kevin Vieldhouse is a great author. He expresses his themes in the book Turning Pro, clear and thoroughly. The way he expresses the racism, friendship and dedication makes you think almost beyond the book until you're certain you know what's going to happen, then the twist comes and makes you realize what corruption our world can be at times. This is true realism.

The racial differences in inner cities is still lingering, even in the boxing ring. Turning Pro shows what life is like in the affluent Suburban life in contrast to hard struggles in the inner city. Overall I enjoyed it and I hope other people enjoy it too.:)

I first used 'Turning Pro' in my classroom last year, and got such positive feedback I'm using it again, plus the author is coming to visit our class! There are so many themes covered (racism, father/son relationships, friendship, classism, etc.) that it makes it easy to find something in the book for everyone's enjoyment. I'm using it to teach Active Reading Strategies and my students really love it. I hope you will too!

This action packed book by Kevin Vieldhouse is an excellent read for all ages. ¿Turning Pro¿ is a book that can be interpreted on many levels, similar to George Orwell¿s ¿Animal Farm.¿ ¿Turning Pro¿ is not just an outstanding story about boxing and sportsmanship, it is a story about human relationships, friendship, positive racial relations, and achieving victory over adversity. The author, Kevin Vieldhouse, a former professional boxer, captures the essence of competitive boxing and illustrates a bobbing and weaving story about life itself, and what it takes to compete in the boxing ring of life.

I thought that the book was very action filled. it had a lot of good events that took place and kept wanting to keep reading it despite the short chapters. I like the fact that Billy And James became very close friends after freunding with each other throughout the beginning of the book. That is something you normally dont see in stories, but i like how it was done.

this book is amazing. i couldn't help but read it it took me a while to read but once it started i coudnt stop. the hate and the friendship, good times and the bad times. the ending really suprised me, i was shocked by the outcome, the weird twist of it all. but, it was still touching after all.

This was not a book i would have read on my own but i happened to find it around when i least expected to have some quiet time to myself. Being a mother of a toddler i don't have much time and usually only read at night but after a few pages of this book i couldn't put it down. I was overwhelmed with curiosity about a world i know little about. I actually finished this book in only 3 day's I just had to find out how it ended. It's such a good story that I only hope it has a touch of truth behind it, the unexpected racial issues were written about in this story gave me an education on another way to look at the world while the 'love story' (friendship) added an extra twist and really made it quite enjoyable. I highly recommend this book to everyone men, women, fathers and mother's. There is a little something for everyone. Actually if the tittle were different I may have picked it up sooner....

Vieldhouse forces the reader to confront his or her own racial prejudices, whether we want to admit we have them or not. A must read for parents and children who want a better understanding of differing cultures. An excellent effort for a new author with a compelling story to tell.

As a young kid, reading this book really gave me a look into the life of boxers from different races. The ending left me stunned, inspired, and moved me beyond words. I read it with relative ease and the book allows for access into a racially motivated boxing gym where two boxers go at it and then become friends, along the way struggling with many of lifes hardships. A very good read, i highly recommend it to children and adults alike.

Turning Pro is an excellent book. Anyone can apply this story to their life, absorb it, digest it, live it. I would recommend this book to those of us who need a spark here and there and appreciate the lessons of life

When a writer can write a book about two so very different people that are really quite the same is an amazing feat. This book is one that your grandmother can read and pass it down to your youngest sibling. All will experience tears, laughs of joy, and wisdom that can only be learned in a sweat filled gym. Easy read, once you start it, you won't put it down. I can¿t wait for the next book.

'Turning Pro' is not only about boxing, it's also moving and inspirational. The lives of two very different men collide and the remarkable story teaches that men steming from different races can compliment eachother and offer motivation and mutual respect for one another. This book was a page-turner for me and the profound and unexpected ending left me in awe as it all came together. 'Turning Pro' did not lack humor as this story eminated pure heart & integrity leaving you feeling connected to these characters. This book can inspire a vast variety of readers from high school students to mature and wise adults.
