About the Author

Jenelle Schmidt grew up in the northern-Midwest. She now resides with her husband and their four adorable children in the wilds of Wisconsin. Jenelle fell in love with reading at a young age during family story-times when her father would read out loud to her and her siblings each night before bed. Her imagination was captured by authors such as Madeleine L'Engle, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Lloyd Alexander. It wasn't long before she began making up her own stories and sharing them with her family. To this day she enjoys creating exciting adventure tales filled with poignant themes and compelling characters in the fantasy and sci-fi genres.

As a young child, Sierra could almost always be found with a pencil in hand. What was once a fun way to be imaginative, turned into a passion and desire to create. Now, as a wife and mother of four, being an artist has taken on a whole new meaning. Less time for creating means utilizing time more creatively. Sierra is a mom full time, and enjoys being an artist in her free time. Life is full of busy seasons. Press on and continue doing what you love, especially if it blesses others. 1 Peter 4:10

I’m not a parent, but even so, I know it’s difficult to find children’s books for Christian families that aren’t overly preachy or deficient in quality. ‘Twas an Evening in Bethlehem shatters that mold to deliver a beautifully-written and illustrated book that is perfect for your Christmas season. The heartwarming verses written by Jenelle Schmidt and the lovely artwork of Sierra Klein are both top-notch. You’re sure to make many treasured memories reading this title with your children during the time of Advent. Highly recommended.

A fresh take on a fun Christmas poem, 'Twas an Evening in Bethlehem shares about that special evening when Jesus was born through the eyes of a child whose father works in the Inn that had no room for Joseph and the very pregnant Mary. The illustrations were lovely and paired nicely with the text. The author did a wonderful job writing and keeping with the rhythm and rhyme of the traditional poem, I especially thought it clever when it came to naming the shepherds who came to visit. I read it out loud to my kids and they loved it. Definitely a treasured story to add to our collection. *I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
