Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The author is only seven and she already has quite a sense of humor. This variation on "The Twelve Days of Christmas" will appeal to dog fanciers and anyone who likes a chuckle. From one poodle in a doghouse to eleven labs laughing, readers will get a laugh at the final gift on the twelfth day of Christmas. The photographs of real dogs are combined with fanciful illustrations by Sharon Collins and Kelly Ann Moore. The book is packaged with a CD filled with a cacophony of woofs, barks and yelps that accompanying the kids singing the song, and then a version of the song without any singing-just an occasional dog bark.

My daughter is fascinated with dogs. This is a very cute book that uses real pictures of dogs. Each of the 11 groups of dogs is a different breed. I say 11 groups, because number 12 is a surprise. It's a great book to read and sing along with the cd, or just look at all the pages and talk about what all the dogs are doing.

My mom bought this book for my 11 month old son, and he loves it! We cannot read it just once, usually we have to read it 5 or 6 times in a row! He loves the ending, and squeals when we get to that part. This is a great book, and I highly recommend it to add some fun to the holidays.

Emma Kragen's '12 Dogs Of Christmas' has many uses beyond just being an adorable fun book to read. It is an excellent way for children to learn to read and or count. The karoke version of the song on the CD can be used to sing along at home or create a Christmas Show. The book also makes a terrific gift for dog lovers of all ages. The book has sold nearly 200,000 copies to date which is an indication of just how much people seem to love it. Emma wrote it at 7-years old and is now 11. She is an All-star basketball player (she's 5'5' tall) and sings with a major city choir.

I read this book to my class and they were sitting on the edge of their seats throughout the entire story! The ending is a classic and my class could not guess what it would be. They absolutely loved it and all put it on their wish lists. Excellent story!
