Overview

Twice Blessed by Sharon Gillenwater

Riding the stagecoach to Willow Grove, Texas, Camille Dupree hoped to leave behind her shocking secrets. For years, she'd brazened out the whispers about her unseemly talents as a professional gambler until it was time to move to the next town. Camille longed to reclaim her innocence and believe in the goodness of others, but would she be given the chance to start over?

In the burgeoning West, a good heart was a valued commodity, and Camille developed a reciprocal appreciation for her neighbors . . .especially the town's mayor, Tyler McKinnon, who saw more beauty and virtue in Camille than she'd ever seen in herself. With his help, she became a respectable businesswoman.

But ill-wishers threatened to destroy her hard-won acceptance, and Camille found herself in need of the town's forgiveness . . .and Tyler's. Could she trust the man she loved to bend his principles and extend the pardon that would bless them both?

Twice Blessed is Sharon Gillenwater's fourteenth novel. She lives with her husband, Gene, in Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

In 1884 San Angelo, Texas, stagecoach owner and mercantile retailer, Tyler McKinnon realizes that his driver is drunk so he plans to drive the stage to its destination Willow Grove. Before leaving, he flirts with one of the passengers, Camille Dupree, who says no to riding in the special seat next to him. Ty admits to himself that Miss Dupree is the first lady to excite him since his wife and child died three years ago during childbirth. Camille reflects back on how her deceased mom must be horrified with the life she lives, but just because one comes from a family of former wealth and standing means nothing when one needs food and shelter. Camille has become a traveling card player staying in a town long enough to beat the locals. In Willow Grove, Camille and Ty are attracted to one another, but both have doubts when it comes to relationships as he still reels over his loss and she over betrayal. As they fall in love, many townsfolk play matchmaker, but others want her out of his life. This stubborn pair will need divine intervention to make it, but both contain some Godly doubts.----- Though the action is somewhat limited, readers will appreciate this deep look at the role of women and religion in the late nineteenth century Texas. The inspirational story line is character driven as Camille looks for a second chance for a more acceptable lifestyle though she knows her options in her past were limited while Ty fears deeply caring as love hurts. Readers will feel TWICE BLESSED by this fabulous lead couple.----- Harriet Klausner
