To be honest, I am so glad Stephanie has found the world of Twilight exciting again. I was hoping that Stephanie was gonna finish Midnight Sun for the 10th anniversary of Twilight. I understand that people ruined her thrill of writing Midnight Sun. When I first read Twilight (I have read Twilight 5 times now) I found Edward to be a completely fascinating and intricate character and still do. I began to study his reactions and his way of thinking. Then I heard of Midnight Sun. When I first started reading Midnight Sun I was overjoyed by the fact that I got to see into Edward's head and perspective. Don't get me wrong, I love Bella's perspective because 1. she's a girl so I understand and 2. she's human so she's easy to relate to. But Edward's perspective would be way more detailed for obvious reasons. Just those little nuggets in Midnight Sun of how Edward went to his car to play music when they were blood typing in biology amazes me. To think that Edward was doing something or saying something when he wasn't with Bella or featured in the chapter. It would be cool to read Twilight from the perspective of a vampire specifically Edward's and not just from Bella's human perspective. Edward's story deserves to be written because he has his own story of falling in love with Bella. I know this is just literature but a I want to gather as much details as I can so I can build to my imagination of the Twilight stories. (books) I think that some stories you can do a complete gender switch and it can be successful, but I don;t think the Twilight Saga is one of them. What makes Twilight so amazing is the characters. Twilight wouldn't be the same or as amazing if it was changed. You can't just use the same story and change the characters. Like a remake of a movie is never as good as the original well same as books. This is true is in almost all cases. I happy that you found joy in writing Life and death. I wish you would finish Midnight Sun and I hope I'll be able to read it someday. I thank you Stephanie for opening yourself up again to Twilight but I hope you continue with the original story, Edward and Bella. Edward and Bella are what make Twilight Twilight. With all respect and gratitude.

Im not going to give this a bad review because it is exactly as it was advertised. It is Twilight with the gender roles reversed. If you do not want to reread Twilight with different character names, do not get this book. Mostly reading this made me want to reread Twilight. So overall not a bad book but the only things changing are the genders..

I don't see what all the bad press is about. Everything Stephenie Meyer writes is amazing and this is no exception. It's fun to read the story from a guy's perspective. It's interesting to see where she added new things to enhance the story. I'll admit it's a little confusing to figure out who everyone is since she changed almost everyone's name. But it adds to the fun of revisiting Twilight. It's just a good excuse to reread Twilight. Thank you Stephenie for yet another awesome read ?

Its not her best work. I feel like she hurried up to have a "fresh"book in time for the anniversary. I would have much rather have had Edwards version of twilight.. this Besu charater just dosent keep me interested in the book......sorry. ..

I have to say that I truly enjoyed reading Life and Death. I liked the way Stephanie Meyet wote this story. Yes it true.....the story is is the same as Twilight, but as Stephanie mentioned the main differences is the gender swap. I am not sure why anyone would give it a bad review. If you liked reading Twilight as much as I do, then this book does not dissappoint. It was intersting reading from a males point of view. Of course I wish Stephanie would have finished writing Midnight Sun, that really sounded like an Awesome story. But as we all know.......people have to ruin it for the rest. I am so happy that Stephanie included the original Twilight book for people to read. It gives the new readers a chance to see what all the hype was 10 years ago when the Twilight pheomenon was going on. Now that I have finished reading Life and Death, I am going to re-read Twilight and visit Edward and Bella and sink into one of the best books I have ever read. I am very happy to add this to my collection, and will most definately be re-reading it again. Thank you Stephanie for creating an Awesome series! Intrigued by Romance

I get the point the author was trying to convery with this book but with the roles reversed it just doesnt work as well. I may just be comparing it too much because its too similar to Twilight but if this is the one that came out first i would not have read it at all. I have yet to finish it but as it stands it will be very hard to read the rest of it.

The names were horrible the original is way better she should have finished midnight sun

The story does not translate at all to gender swapping. Archie carrying Beau to whisk him away, for example, is laughable. Beau's character does not at all feel like a teenage boy. There are plenty of talented authors who can write from the perspective of the opposite gender, but Meyer clearly isn't one of them. When Beau gets choked up when he notices that Charlie put chains on his tires, it could have been written in a way that felt genuine, and true to a teenage boy's feelings and reactions, but instead it just felt like Bella. Very poorly written, poorly though out, and not worth the time to read. Save your money.

This is a gender swap, there is subtle differences in the writing and very enjoyable. If your a twilight fanatic might tickle your fancy. I was afraid of getting bored with this book, but sure enough it just reminded me of everything I fell in love with 10 years ago. Some of the changes are small and had me flipping between Life And Death and Twilight to figure out. You should give this book a try, you might be surprised. I love it ????

I first must say it took me four days to read this book, only because I kept having to put it down because of the headache it was giving me. I wasn't aware until after purchase that this was in fact Twilight, only worse. I'll admit I was hoping midnight sun would be the obvious choice for the tenth anniversary..... But wishful thinking will get you nowhere when it is left in the hands of others. Sorry Steph but this has to be the worst thing you've ever written. If you don't already know this "story" is nothing but Twilight with reversed genders, everything we loved about the original characters seems to have vanish when once they become the opposite sex. I guess this will teach me to read reviews and summaries before buying what I thought would be a great addition to my collection.

I wanted to read this because I love all things Twilight and I had to have anything that Stephanie writes in the universe. I went in with mixed expectations, I mean, I adore the series, the movies, and even on a re-read after years of blogging, it still made my heart beat harder and love the romance and storytelling. I still love Twilight. Its not without its issues sure, but it fired up my love for reading again, and so many people will say the same thing. Yes, there is a lot of hate, but there is also over the moon sales. But I also have read quite a few things that did not paint this newest installment in any sort of positive light. I have another Twihard friend in real life who isn't even going to give it a shot, so while I didn't doubt I would read it, I wasn't sure how I would feel about it. So here's what I think: I am not super impressed because for the most part it seems cut and copied with just the names changed, so I am skimming for new material. Some of the cut and copy is a bit awkward coming from a boy's pov. The thing that got the biggest response from me was the fact that she changed the classic of three things I am certain. I mean if you aren't going to change much, don't change some of my favorite words, even if its from Beau. Some of the differences include-- Beau is not quite as angsty, his character has a bit more humor. Of course the scene in Port Angeles is different, but it still gets Edythe's attention and Beau was in danger. Some of the interactions with Charlie was changed and made it work a bit better with father/son dynamics. Also, no love triangle-- not that there was much of that in the 1st Twilight, but the ending is changed in this one, because since genders are changed, the course of the next books would be completely altered. One major part was altered, and it made a lot of sense why this part was changed. I liked the alternate and even though I think some un-necessary details were added, where I wanted more of other things. Bottom Line: Skimmed for differences, read if you are hard-core. It's acceptable but it's no Midnight Sun (which I would one hundred times over rather read the finished copy)

Not a good read at all. Loved her other books. I am very sorry I bought the book if I could take it off my nook and get my money back I would.

Very badly written. Male character a wuss and wimpy. Waste of time to read. Too verbatim, boring, predictable. Should have continued the series through Bella and Edward viewpoint as well as daughter's viewpoint and Jacob and even family members and Indian tribe. Still a lot of story to be told and wished it had been written to completion.

I liked it enough to say that I liked it. It's just kind of confusing reading the book in a flipped around way. I would LOVE it if it was Edwards point of view, though. Anyway it was nice that Stephanie Meyer made this book.

This is not a terrible read but entertaining. You have to go into it a as a stand alone book and not as part of the Twilight series to enjoy it.

I was excited to find out about this new book. I found myself comparing a lot at first & wasn't really enjoying it because I was focused on the comparisons. Once I got it in my head to stop doing that, I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was easy not to compare in some parts because of the differences between the original. Once I was done, it actually felt like I had read a new book, not reread Twilight. So if that's the case, I'd say it was pretty good.

I will admit I would rather have seen Midnight Sun published for the tenth anniversary but I did enjoy what I got. The names threw me a bit and I would have liked a little bit more of a difference since I think that guys do think and handle things differently from women but the cafeteria scene with Taylor and the different ending made it worth purchasing!

The Anti-Twilight First, I loved (and still do) the original Twilight series. Sure, there were some issue I had with Bella's occasional neurotic behavior, Edward letting her call almost all the shots in the 3rd and 4th books, and THAT name... Reneesme. Like many fans of the Twilight universe, I read the unauthorized, partial Midnight Sun manuscript, and loved that even more. I still have hope that the author will eventually publish that. However, this gender-swap retelling of the story JUST DOESN'T WORK! That's the reason I gave it one star. It makes me cringe to read it. Meyer would have been much better served to honor the anniversary with the Midnight Sun release.

Really, I sadly feel ripped off. LOVE YOUR WORK BUT NOT THIS. A true waste of good money

Let me start by saying that Twilight has and will always be one of my all time favorite book series. My daughter and all my nieces (that enjoy reading) have read this book and loved it so much so I knew going into it, I would love it. This did not happen. I didn't love it, but it's okay. This book messed with my head something fierce. I kept wanting to change the characters back to their original gender. I didn't love that Beau was constantly being "rescued" by Edyth (aka Edward). It just seemed so funny to me. Beau is the biggest pansy on the earth, but when it was a girl it was alright. I know that's a total double standard, but it is what it is. I loved that the book followed the story until the end. The end made up for the rest of the book. I really enjoyed the ending of this book. I almost wish it was how Twilight ended. ALMOST. I only wish I could say I loved the whole book. I liked it because I LOVE Stephenie Meyer. I love her writing. I love her 'original' Twilight series! AND I loved the ending. Maybe this book won't mess with other peoples heads like it did me. I just couldn't handle Bella as a man. It didn't work for me. Source: I borrowed this book from a family member. I was not compensated in any way for my review. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book. Content: Clean!

Disappointing The change in ginder was a very poor attempt . All she did was change the names. I'm so disappointed in her. She should have done short story's on Alice, Jacob , forks, hell anybody. Would have been better. I loved twilight it was a wonderful story. It would be nice to add to it not change it. Are just leave it alone. I will read her books in the future hoping she comes up with another great book.
