Twin Peaks [Original Television Soundtrack]

Composer Angelo Badalamenti (Cousins) set the tone for David Lynch's bizarre television soap with a haunting theme created from electric piano, synthetic strings, and the twangiest guitar this side of Duane Eddy. The love theme, appropriately enough, sounds like a funeral march. (The series' central character was found dead at the beginning of the first episode.) The rest of the music, instantly recognizable to anyone who saw even one episode of the series, borders on fever-dream jazz. Lynch favorite Julee Cruise sings the only three vocal songs. The music from Twin Peaks is dark, cloying, and obsessive -- and one of the best scores ever written for television.

It's been nearly a decade since the world was captivated by the TV show Twin Peaks and it's been that long since Julee Cruise had a hit with the song "Falling" because of that show (included here), but as one character said on the show "Isn't this music just dreamy?" Indeed it is. If you looking for some background music and desperately need something a little more hip than a16th century master, this is the CD for you. Hey, they have samples on this page so check it out. If you DO remember the TV series, this CD will make you remember how weird and wonderful it all was. Enjoy!

Though I would not reccomend this piece of music to anybody, I would recommend to anybody who is a fan of David Lynch, Angelo Badalamenti, or avant-garde cinema. A brilliant score for a brilliant film. It is, however, typical of the artist.
