Twinkle is tagged as a science fiction thriller. That’s true. I’d also tag it as a wake up call. Some of my best fiction reads were the ones without aliens or supernatural elements. The ones that tell a story that could happen. Billions of people inhabit the planet and all eyes are focused on the skies. The richest man in the world celebrates the 4th of July with a never before done fireworks display launched from space. It’s a spectacular display and goes off without a hitch. The following day, all those who witnessed the event begin to go blind. Imagine it. Imagine what would happen as everything slows down, grinds to a halt. It falls on the few who didn’t watch the fireworks to care for those who did. From the highest levels of government to the farmer, all are affected. The questions would be many. How did it happen? Was it planned? Who was behind it? What came next? Mr. Parkinson has written a chilling plot of global disaster. The research is phenomenal. The writing, crisp and comprehensive. The story, at over 500 pages, is fast, addictive, and believable. An excellent read I highly recommend. I received this book for my honest review.
This story starts out with a lot of military action and Sir Marcus Brandon wanting to create a world fireworks show for the new year. After the fireworks and people start going blind the story starts flowing. There is a race to find the cure for the blindness, the world countries grinding to a halt, and the military getting their hands into everything. But why did everyone go blind, what was the purpose, and can the people be cured. I really like this story. There is so much detail and information that I felt like I was right there with the characters. I liked how everything fell and the reason why. I loved the whole firework idea. There is a lot of military jargon since this book is basically about a world take over, but I have to say that there are notes throughout the book the help guide you along with the story. Realistically I doubt the cure, but I can see how you have to keep the story flowing, it’s even mentioned in the book. This book takes you on a roller coaster of a ride. There are scary possibilities and some hard, realistic events. But in the end it’s well worth it. Don’t let the title and the cover make you think this is just some fluffy fantasy. This is one kick butt book that you have to read. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Reviewed by Kathryn Bennett for Readers' Favorite Twinkle by SJ Parkinson introduces us to the richest man in the world who wants to have a 4th of July like he has never had before. He wants to get his name into the record books and to do so he decides to put on a global fireworks show that is staged from orbit. After he puts on this amazing show, however, people begin to lose their sight, governments collapse and society turns into little more then a rabble. Those few who retain their vision work hard to find the cure before an invading power takes over. This book has a lot of layers to it and I feel that on the first pass you may miss a few things, but that is okay because the book is truly an awesome one! I enjoyed every page and following the path that humanity must take after the affliction takes over. Can any of us imagine dealing with the whole planet going blind? Everything falling into chaos? The plot felt like an onion you keep peeling back, bit by little bit, and you uncover something new. The characters are interesting and they also keep you reading. I applaud SJ Parkinson for this work and I look forward to reading more from this author. If you are looking for a book that you will want to read more than once, this is going to be the book for you. I highly recommend Twinkle for a book to curl up with and enjoy on any day.
