Avery Sparks is a master at controlling chaos—and she gets plenty of opportunities as fire chief and head of emergency management in her hometown of Chance, Nebraska. The only thing she can’t seem to control are her feelings when she’s around Jake Mitchell, the man who was her first everything the night of their high school graduation. But Jake was so quick to leave Chance—and Avery—behind that she swore she’d move on.

While Avery’s job is to minimize drama, Jake embraces the chaos of an emergency. After enlisting in the Army National Guard, Jake became a nationally recognized leader in disaster recovery. Yet a life on the road has left him restless. So when a class-four tornado wreaks havoc on Chance, he’s eager to return home—and to the woman never far from his mind.

Now, Avery and Jake must team up to help their hometown weather a siege of violent storms. But it’s clear to them both that nature isn’t the only force they’ll have to reckon with. Will Avery and Jake’s whirlwind love affair be an all-new disaster—or can they recover from their stormy past to build a future together?

Twisted is how I feel right now. I totally love this new series by Erin Nicholas!!! She brings strong characters, both male and female, along with humor and also everyday problems like we all deal with and combine them to make a hot new book and series set in Chance, Nebraska. So looking forward to reading more from this new little town of great sounding characters!!

Twisted Up is a must read. This story will leave you wanting more and more and more. Avery sparks is one of my favorite heriones. she is so strong, independent and take charge woman. Jake is the total alpha male. He is strong, sweet and over protective in an endearing way of Avery. The supporting characters were just as amazing as the main characters. You will laugh out loud, you will cry, and most importantly you will LOVE this book!!!

"Twisted Up" is written by Erin Nicholas, and it is the first book in her Taking Chances series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Avery Sparks and Jake Mitchell. Avery and Jake have history. They've known each other since they were young kids. Avery considered Jake's parents her family while her grandmother took care of her. But then, Jake left after high school graduation and enlisted in the Army National Guard. Avery wanted to prove something of herself, so she worked hard to become fire chief in Chance, Nebraska. She doesn't need Jake or his parents. But what happens when Jake comes back to town? Jake has always had a soft spot for Avery. He likes her a lot and has always cared about her. Right from the get-go, there's a build up to when they see each other again. It just had me smiling the whole time! Jake and Avery are HOT! Circumstances will bring them together where they have no choice, but to work with each other. They can't deny their attraction to one another, but can they learn to trust again? Or will their past prevent them from having that happily ever after? "Twisted Up" is such a well-written story! I'm such a huge fan of Erin's work, and she did not disappoint! There was just something special about this book! It's definitely in my top 3 of books Erin has written!

I feel I must say this. I am an avid Erin Nicholas fan and there isn't a book of hers that I haven't loved. But when I first started reading this book, I was a little worried. I didn't really like Jake. He was too cocky, a little too needing to be Avery's center of attention for me. I don't do well with men like that. And it kinda made me crazy how weak Avery was around him. HOWEVER, as I continued to read on and get to know both characters and more of their histories, I got a better understanding and appreciation for them. I loved the heart and concern Jake really had for not only Avery but for his hometown. And I loved Avery all the more knowing her insecurities and her vulnerability where Jake and his family were concerned. They ended up with a truly beautiful story. Jake was seriously cracking me up in the last chapter and making me swoon in the last few pages. So don't give up on him in the beginning, keep on reading because he will make you change your opinion of him. Now I will be patiently waiting for the other stories in this little town of Chance.

Another great book by Ms. Nicholas. I couldn't put it down. Avery and Jake are great! I am so excited to read more books in this new series. I love the small town romance, and this is definitely that. I was a little leery about reading about tornadoes (the thought of them terrifies me) but the characters in this story weathered the disaster that tornadoes and crazy storms wreak on their lives. I cried, and laughed. It was such a fun story!

Avery Sparks and Jake Mitchell have known one another for years and their history is dicey to say the least. They had a very quick encounter the night of their prom senior year in high school and Jake took off the next morning without a warning or word to the girl who had just given him her virginity. Fast forward ten years to their high school class reunion, and Jake, who is now a disaster recovery leader, has blown back into town which causes chaos for Avery, the town fire chief, much like the tornadic weather that hits their hometown of Chance, Nebraska that same night. With their town in ruin following the powerful storm, Jake and Avery must work together to get the town cleaned up and back on it's feet. After all these years can the sparks that had begun to fly ten years previously reignite when these two spend time together? And, will a falling out between Avery and Jake's parents cause a rift between the lovers? I enjoyed the trip to Chance, Nebraska and all of the people that inhabit the town. Erin Nicholas did a great job showcasing tornadoes and what people in tornado alley have to deal with on a regular basis. Not only will people enjoy the story, they will learn a thing or two as well. I look forward to the next book in this series. ARC provided by NetGalley

Twisted Up by Erin Nicholas is a great start to a new series, that is set in Chance, Nebraska. You too will fall in love with Jake and Avery and the rest of this small community after it is hit my a tornado. You will shed happy and sad tears as you get to know this town. Jake and Avery practically grew up together, went to senior prom together and the next morning he is gone. Jake has now returned home for the class reunion, and sparks and feelings get twisted up with Avery. I loved how this town comes together after the tornado, and everyone pitches in to help recover. I highly recommend this book!! Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

A new series by Erin Nicholas? Sign me up! Twisted Up is the first in a new series, and may I just say, IT WAS AMAZING! I've been a fan of this author's books for years, and she just keeps getting better. I don't know how she is able to weave nearly impossible odds into happily ever after but always pulls it off with a twist and bang! Avery was so kick-butt and Jake? *swoon* Great chemistry, with a shared love of their hometown, able to work together well. Fabulous! And the secondary characters! I cannot wait for the next one! Write fast, Ms. Nicholas!

As fire chief and head of emergency management, Avery Sparks has become the master at handling anything that borders on chaotic... except her love life. Years ago on graduation night she indulged in a little one night hook-up with her friend Jake Mitchell, then he left without looking back. Avery on the other hand stayed behind, and has created a good life for herself, one she has no plans of changing, she has everything she could possibly want in Chance, Nebraska... well except maybe love. But the minute Jake returns home for their high school reunion, the sparks between them start to fly, and mother nature isn't about to let these two off so easy this time! Jake Mitchell loves what he does, being a leader in natural disaster recovery give him the opportunity to help people and gives him a sense of purpose like nothing else ever could. He likes that it allows him to travel, never really putting down roots anywhere, which totally feeds into his restless spirit. He doesn't really do relationships, or love, mainly because he gave his heart away a long time ago, then made the mistake of walking away. Now for the first time in his life he is going to have to face that mistake when he returns home for his high school reunion, and what he finds waiting there for him, has him wanting things he thought he would... to stay! This read was unlike anything I have read, I have to say it was quite refreshing to step out of my comfort zone and read something a little different for a change. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two their disastrous little adventure proved to be very entertaining, and gave me a serious case of the feels!! This was my first book from this author and I have to say it left a pretty good first impression. I highly recommend you give this one a try it is sure to tap into your emotions and leave you with a happy heart!! Chance is the kinda place you can grow deep roots, and that is exactly what it seems everyone in this small town has done in-spite of being in the middle of the famous tornado alley. I always love these small town boy and girl grow up so close together and even though their adult lives take them in different and far directions they still find they are drown to each other like magnets. Avery is so Strong, sassy and the first female Fire Cheif in Chance. Jack is sexy dangerous with a huge hero gotta save everyone complex. They are so explosive you can just see the fireworks whenever they are together. Loved every heart pounding, life changing moment in this very emotional and sweet childhood love story. I look forward to the next visit to this fun little town.

I've been told time and time again by my fellow bookworms to give Erin Nicholas a try, so when I saw this book I knew it was the right one for me to take the plunge on a new to me author. Nicolas has scores of books under her belt, but she's know for her small town style romances and I have to say I see why now. Twisted Up was such a fun read for me. It was packed with emotion, passion, and a heartwarming feeling you get from the whole cast of characters in this community that has been devastated time and time again by tornadoes. The feeling of optimism in the story was contagious, but it still had just enough balance of negative that made the positives that much sweeter. Overall, I was impressed with this book and I'm eager to start reading more from Nicolas. I'm really curious about the other two couples mentioned in the story, so I hope their stories soon follow this. I can't say that Chance is ever a town that I would chance living in given their history of tornadoes, but I do admire their spirit in the wake of so much bad luck. They might be onto something when the mention it might be built on an Indian burial ground. I guess they are lucky in a sense that they were ef4's and not ef5's though. Regardless, I'll spend some time visiting Chance but in NO WAY would I want to live there! LOL

Loved this book!! Erin Nicholas has such a fantastic writing style- she makes you feel right in the middle of the story. I adored the sweet & sexy give & take between Avery & Jake. Avery is a take charge kind of woman, she is the fire chief of her hometown of Chance, NE & she knows her stuff. But underneath everything she is just longing for someone to love & cherish her because she hasn't had much of that in her life. Jake is the town superstar & has come home for his high school reunion & stays to help rebuild the town when yet another tornado comes through. I love the emotions this book brings forth, I cried, laughed, got a little pissed off, fell in love a little, such honest emotions. Can't wait to read the next book in the series (January 2017 can't get here some enough ;)) Advanced Reader Copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jake and Avery have a somewhat complicated non-relationship. Whenever they were together, from high school until now, the chemistry between them was sizzling. Those kisses they shared over the years were fire-starters! Too bad he'd always leave town after they happened. The conflict between Avery and Jake's parents was very upsetting. I understood why they did it but it was a terrible thing to do to her. Small town romances are as special as the towns they come to life in. Chance, Nebraska is one of those special towns and the people who live there are great. I love how the town gathered to put the pieces back together after the twister. This is book one in the new series Taking Chances and it's another huge hit for this amazing author. Erin Nicholas is a master at writing about small-town America. I can't wait to get to know more of the residents of Chance, Nebraska.

Erin Nichols is the queen of creating small town romances that are both authentic and fun to read. Her latest is also set in Nebraska and features a second chance for Jake, the town's emergency planner and Avery, the local fire chief. Jake and Avery grew up together and had an unhappy parting after high school. 10 years pass and Jake is a nationally know emergency planner who returns to town once or twice a year. He and Avery flirt, argue, and in general when they see each other. The story opens when Jake returns home for his 10 year high school reunion. Avery is helping organize for the party when she and Jake hook up. A Tornado interrupts their afterglow and both start to do what they do best. As the crises continues, Avery starts to develop real feelings for him and yet she is unsure if he will stick around when next storm hits. This is a very entertaining novels that involves complex characters, an interesting setting, and sexy scenes that work on every level. I am a huge fan of her novels and this is another awesome addition.I was given a free copy for an honest review.

Erin Nicholas has written another wonderful small town romance, this time set in Chance, Nebraska. This is the first book in her new series. Jake and Avery have known each other their entire lives. Two people who are always at ends with each other and denying their feelings. I truly enjoyed this story from the first page until the last. Erin knows how to spin a tale that keeps you glued to the pages until the end. If you have not read any of her books, you are missing out. I highly recommend this book and any other writings by Erin Nicholas.

Everything about this small town romance was amazing. In real life we all have that one that we think may have been "the one that got away" and Twisted Up brings that reality to life. I love all the characters especially Avery and her friends. One of my favorite parts is their communication when Jake comes to town. I won't give too many details and ruin it for anyone but it's a laugh out loud kind of moment the first of many of those moments in this book. Erin Nicholas is genius in writing her heroes and heroines but did an especially brilliant job of writing Avery in as the fire chief even though we often think of that position being held by a man. The dynamic of all the characters and how family oriented this small town is a primary focus of the book and it makes me want to live next door to any of these people. I can't wait to read the other stories in this new series.

I should probably start off by saying that Twister is one of my favorite movies of all time, so the second I saw a romance that involved tornadoes I knew I had to have it. I'm also a big sucker for 2nd chance romances. This is the first book by Erin Nicholas that I've ever read and I definitely want to try more from her after reading this one. Twisted Up is the first book in the "Taking Chances" series. I can't wait to read the next ones! Avery is a fire chief in the small town of Chance, Nebraska. She had a tough family life growing up and when the people she thought cared about her seemingly turned their backs on her she began very independent. She's had a hard time letting anyone close and only has 2 people she would call her friends. Her attraction to Jake frustrates her because she feels like he also abandoned her. Jake is a cocky self-assured guy that loves pushing Avery's buttons. He's got a huge hero complex and can't stand the idea that Avery doesn't fall all over him like other girls he's been with. The two of them had great chemistry together and couldn't keep their hands off of each other. When the secrets of what happened to Avery in the 10 years since they saw each other last come out, I was happy to see Jake's protective instincts kick in. He was a man that knew how to fight for his girl. I thought Avery came off as a little uncaring or even clueless at times but I guess it could be her defense mechanism. **I received an ARC of this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. **

Fantastic! Erin Nicholas has such a gift that every story is my favorite. This story is magical, it is full of heart, humor, hope and HEA. It made me hot and happy at the same time, and I could not put this down. As the small town of Chance is destroyed by a tornado and rebuilt by the community. We meet this close knit community and are introduced to such a great variety of characters and potential book boyfriends that it makes me smile to think, who will be next. With the fun, flirty banter, of our main characters, to the fireworks of their first kiss, and the thrill of their passion, there is a sprinkle of Nicholas magic that brings true love to life for the reader. I was swept away by this story. Loved it! Highly Recommended! Received a complimentary copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Erin Nicholas' last series, so much that I wasn't sure how these characters would develop for me. I didn't want the characters to come to me as duplicates from the last series. They so didn't. Avery and Jake are very much their own people. While parts of Erin Nicholas' writing might be predictable, like the boy meets girl, or boy reunites with girl, and the humor that is subtly hidden, or blatantly in your face. Ms Nicholas still has great talent for developing characters that pull you into their lives. I love Avery a lot, mostly because of her sass and spunk, and that she is as tough as Jake in many ways. But together their connection is nothing short of electrifying. They are only characters in a book, but when you are reading their story and your heart stops, or beats faster you know that the connection that the writer has, has come right out of the books into your heart. Set in Chance Nebraska with a full blown Tornado. This book will twist it's way right into your heart. Can't wait to meet the other characters who live in Chance.

Twisted Up is the first story in a new contemporary romance series, with a unique setting of a small town set in Tornado Alley, dealing with disaster on an annual basis. Knocked down and still fighting, the town of Chance is a definite star here, the setting and plot of the story definitely highlighting the small town spirit and togetherness found in any location where natural disaster strikes. Where things could descend into sadness and grief, those emotions, while there, don’t overwhelm the story. Instead there is an emphasis on being prepared and knowing what to do and where to turn to in an emergency. The different leaders of the town – the mayor, the police chief (who happens to be Jake’s father) and Avery as the fire chief work together to provide as much safety for the town as they can, while coordinating relief efforts. It gives you a warm feeling to see these people all pulling together. Amid the backdrop of summer storms, Avery and Jake’s romance is unstable too. Avery has been hurt by Jake before, when he left for the national guard the morning after graduation without saying goodbye. Abandoned by a cold and cruel grandmother Avery made her own way - first college, then training as a firefighter that enabled her to return to Chance and eventually gain the position as fire chief. Adversity has made her strong but her heart is very guarded. Some readers will see Jake’s actions as insensitive. And they are right to think so. But it’s important to understand Jake’s overall character. From a young age, he wanted to help others. While this sentiment is of course encouraged, it manifested itself in Jake as the continual desire to help more and more people. Joining the national guard was a natural fit for him, as was his continued involvement in emergency management. But every time he comes back to Chance and sees Avery, and finds a way to spend some time alone with her, it gets harder and harder to leave. This time, things go even further, and they share some steamy scenes that emphasize the depth of the feelings they keep trying to hide. This time, Jake finds that he doesn't want to leave. Jake's two cousins Max (a former army corps engineer now in construction) and Dillon (an ER doctor) who are home for the high school reunion provide some humorous moments, and the same goes for Avery and her two best friends Kit and Bree. There are some clear match-ups for future books in the series with these friends that it appears will happen concurrent with this romance based on some of the events. If you enjoy small town romances but are looking for one that stands out, Twisted Up provides a refreshing change.

Twisted Up by Erin Nicholas....I absolutely loved this book, it blew me away, what a great start for new series. This book introduces us to a new town, great characters and new relationships. Avery and Jake have past from childhood and Jake never got over Avery. He comes back to help his town rebuild and Avery is the Fire Chief. Will they get there second chance, you will have to read. Avery Sparks is the fire chief in Chance, Nebraska. Jake Mitchell is the man who broke her heart 10 years ago by sleeping with her the night of high school graduation and leaving for basic training the next mornings nag with no real warning. He reappeared in her town a year and now pops up at random times to kiss her and run. Chance has developed a reputation for being a bulls eye for tornadoes. That was originally what brought him back to town a year ago when there was another tornado and be was brought in as a disaster recovery expert. Now he's back in town for their high school reunion and there's another EF4 tornado baring down on Chance. Can they manage to make an actual relationship while working to put their town back together, as well as repair Avery's relationship with his parents. I loved this story and loved learning about this new city in Erin Nicholas' world. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Spectacular read! An emotional breaking storm! A book that blows the roof off! OK, OK enough of the one liners. Do you love an extremely emotional, small town romance novel? Then Twisted Up by Erin Nicolas is definitely for you. This wonderful emotional story is about best friends Avery Sparks and Jake Mitchell. Avery feels Jake does not know how lucky he is, to have such a wonderful, loving family. Avery knows the other side. Her mother did not think Avery was “important” enough to stick around and drops her off at her grandmother’s trailer, and leaves. Her grandmother, is a mean old, b… um, witch, that has emotionally abused Avery all her life, so she spent every moment she could with Jake’s family. They became her family, the family she loved with all her heart. Over the years Jake became more than a friend to Avery. When Jake takes her to the prom, the night of graduation, she gave Jake her virginity along with her love, and her heart. The morning after her grandmother kicks her out. Avery goes to Jake’s. Imagine her shock when she finds out Jake had left for the Army National Guard and did not say goodbye. Devastated, Avery leaves Chance knowing she has no one but herself to rely on. Several years later, she returned to Chance. She is the fire chief as well as the head of emergency services, which is a very important job in Chance, Nebraska. Mother nature seems to have a target on Chance, the last two years she hit them with a tornado. When Jake went into the Army National Guard, he specialized in emergency services, for which he is now being offered the deputy administrator’s position of FEMA. Jake is getting tired of always being on the road, and coming home to Chance gives him the chance to recharge and ground himself. And to see Avery. He has never forgotten her. Avery has never forgotten or gotten over Jake, but she also aware he will never stay. She has to get over him, but can she? Jake has returned for the reunion and is helping to get the hall ready. Avery and Jake go to the supply shed for more decorations, when the wind whips up and slams and jams the door. Jake can’t resist, he corners Avery, she reaches up and kisses him, and starts their stormy relationship again. Then they heard it. Minutes later the tornado warning start. Mother nature is doing it again. Will she mix things up enough that these two get back together? Or will someone else step in? This is a spectacular, emotional, story of second chance love. I love a book that makes me laugh, as well as cry. To me these are sign of a great book, and this one certainly did that. I love the way the whole town rallied around and helped each other. This country certainly needs more of that. This the first book in Erin Nicholas’ Taking Chances series. We see glimpses of what possibly be the next book or books in the series. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of this series because I know they will be as great as the first. Now I have to thank NetGalley for listing this wonderful book on their site. Secondly, I need to thank Montlake Publishing for granting my wish and gifting me a copy of this extraordinary read for an honest opinion. Thirdly, I need to thank the spectacular Erin Nicholas for writing such wonderful, thought provoking, emotional books. Thank you for reading my review.
