Overview

In this New York Times bestseller, a single father discovers the true nature of unconditional love when a new chance at happiness turns his world upside down.

At 32, Russell Green has it all: a stunning wife, a lovable six year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive, and an expansive home in Charlotte. He is living the dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at the center of it. But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when every aspect of the life he has taken for granted is turned upside down.

In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or a wife, caring for his young daughter while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality. Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding — one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he's ever imagined.

When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder. But with the loyal support of his parents, the wisdom of his older sister, Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love — that it is a treasure to be bestowed, not earned.

What happened to the Nicholas Sparks that I used to know and love? This book was negative, depressing and dragged on endlessly. I couldn't have been more surprised.

I buy this author's books as soon as they come out His books are usually such a beautiful and heart tugging read, but this book was depressing, long and a boring read. If he needed to get something off his chest, because this sounded personal and bitter, I hate that I had to pay for it!

As an avid Nicholas Sparks reader, another wonderful work of life in its hardest and most difficult situations. I have experienced divorce with young children and loss of a daughter from cancer. Picking up the pieces and continuing to live is the hardest. This book had me bawling over and over.

I loved that Nicholas Sparks gave a different feel to this book than his others. Although there are some depressing parts this book is real. It was time for him to change it up a bit and this book exactly that. Another page turner and tear jerker!

Whats happened to Sparks? This was like reading how to live through a divorce from a mans point of view. Enough about London already! The wife sounded like she had her act together certainly wasnt portrayed as a bad person and the sister seemed to hold the guy together. That being said, wss this about the authors true story? Dont waste your money.

I am a Nicholas Sparks fan but this was by far the worst. The story and characters were fine but it seemed to drag on endlessly, rehashing the same problems over and over.

I pre-ordered this book and it was surprisingly boring. He could have written this story in a chapter. It dragged on endlessly but I read it to the bitter end. Ended so sweet and nice but oh so predictable. The main character had no character or guts and neither did the story.

I really wanted to love this book as I am a Nicholas Sparks fan. I tried. I made it to page 93 thinking it would get better but I'm not sure I can go further. It drags and drags. It is like someone getting up and writing a book about every look move they make. BORING! How many chapters does it take to convince the reader that the main character is having marital problems? Please move on!!

A little hard to get into at first, but then realized it was about more than a man and woman relationship; brother and sister; father and daughter. An emotional ride through a family's trials and triumphs in spite of loss and renewal.

I absolutely love books by Nicholas Sparks but this one touched me personal in so many different ways. I had several moments to were I had to stop reading because my emotions would get the best of me. Very touching to me....thank you Mr. Sparks for another excellent book.

This book was just ok. It lacked some creativity that he is capable of.

This book is unlike any other Sparks book I have read but it was as emotional and well written as ever. I could feel the character's emotions and became genuinely invested in his story. If it makes you care, it's a good book.

I am only on page 54 and being so disappointed with this book so far, I decided to check the reviews to see if I was the only one. I own EVERY book Nicholas Sparks has written and have LOVED every one of them ... except this one. As other reviewers have pointed out - it goes on endlessly and aside from being boring, the main character isn't even someone you can bring yourself to care about! He has no character, guts, personality and how can we as the reader even respect someone who loves and puts up with the wife he's got? Ugh! I'll probably finish it but, it's going to take a whole lot longer to read this one than any prior NS book I've read!

Boring and predictable. You had to read 350 pages before anything interesting happened.

As is normal with any of his books, this was a heart tugging book. Wonderfully written. I felt the pain and sadness as well as the joy and love in every chapter. Definitely worth reading. Just have some tissues nearby.

neither main character was likeable! he was an idiot for quitting his job while his wife did not at all agree, & WIFE IS A TOTAL SHREW throughout the book.

Having read every Nicholas Sparks novel I expected this book to follow another romance but I was surprised that the romance was the secondary story. I really enjoyed the change.

Loved it all except the ending . His wife is psycho and not healthy to partake in raising a child . She is extremely selfish .

This book was heartfelt from beginning to end. Very realistic both reminded me of my youth and the loved shared between myself and my brother . The reminder that we should always take one day at a time and that even though change is scary sometimes its neccessary to move forward.
