4.5 Star Review of Two Hearts Surrendered by Tamara Ferguson I really enjoyed this short story that tugged at my heart strings. For as long as she can remember Kelly Callahan has had feelings for Luke Bryant. It started when she was only 6 years old when he rescued her from drowning, a 13 year old boy who risked his life to save her. Virtually adopted into the Callahan family, Luke grew up a part of their lives. Over the years Kelly's feelings for the troubled Luke grew, so much so that when she was 18 she offered herself to him. However Luke had a painful and troubled past, and being 7 years older, didn't feel he deserved Kelly's affection (although he felt the same way) and so rebuffed her. Fast forward a couple of years and a chance meeting at a family wedding, brings Luke and Kelly face to face again. It is obvious to both of them as soon as their eyes meet that the attraction can no longer be ignored. After a passionate night they are forced to separate as Luke is a pilot in the Air Force and is being deployed on another tour of duty. When Luke is injured, Kelly wants to rush to his side, but Luke refuses to see her. He is wallowing in self pity and depression, having sustained horrendous injuries and the loss of his best friend. This was a book which filled me with many emotions, there were times I smiled, I laughed and I cried. Ms. Ferguson wove a heart warming tale of hope and determination to succeed and overcome what seems like insurmountable odds. The journey of both Luke and Kelly was told with sympathy and compassion. I will certainly be reading more form Tamara Ferguson at my earliest opportunity.
Two Hearts Surrendered is the first book in the Two Hearts Wounded Romance series. It is the story of Luke, a man who has lived through unspeakable abuse as a child and Kelly, a beautiful woman who has loved him since they were young. Years ago when Kelly professed her love to him, Luke turned her down because he felt he was unworthy of her. Luke, who is now a pilot in the Air Force, has returned home to attend Kelly's sister's wedding. He has decided he cannot live without Kelly any longer and confesses his love for her. Unfortunately, right after the wedding he is being deployed to a top secret location. While on deployment Luke is seriously injured. He is suffering from PTSD, disfiguring injuries and refuses to see Kelly. Will Luke put aside his insecurities and allow Kelly to love him as he is? The story that follows is truly inspirational. It deals with a subject that is all to real. The effect war has on not only on the person in the military but on the people who love them as well. It really sheds light on many of the feelings and problems military families must deal with. I really enjoyed this story and will definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series. I received a copy of this book from EBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the prologue but didn't feel the remainder of the novel lived up to is promise. For over half of the novel (9 out of 16 chapters) Luke and Kelly never spoke and whilst the book flowed well, I didn't feel the romance. I received this novel as an ebook from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.
Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Two Hearts Surrendered is a contemporary military romance written by Tamara Ferguson. Thirteen-year-old Luke was old before his time. First he lost his father, then his mother, leaving him in the care of a step-father whose beatings left him scarred and feeling alienated from the rest of the world. While he worked so hard to conceal the bruises and other evidence of the man's physical abuse from his teacher, the school counselor and other adults in the community, there was no way to hide everything from the kids in the locker room. Luke's source of solace was Dragonfly Pointe; its sandy shores and cool waters providing him just enough comfort and strength to keep on going. Six-year-old Kelly Callahan was part of that other world, and watching her play reminded him painfully of his own little sister, Cassie, who was also gone. When he saw Kelly unnoticed and drowning in the lake, all thoughts of covering the still-bleeding scars from last night's beating were forgotten in his need to save her. Over the years that followed, the two of them would share a special bond that, given the right moment, might flower into a full-blown love. Tamara Ferguson's Two Hearts Surrendered is well-written and engaging. Luke and Kelly are compelling characters whom the reader can't help but cheer for when they meet up and hope that the two, who are so obviously in love, will eventually find a way to make a life together. Ferguson peoples her story with other unforgettable characters as well, including Kelly's brother, Dan, the physical trainer, Steve, and Jake, owner of the Dragonfly Pointe Inn. Her plot is compelling and real, especially those parts concerning the care and rehabilitation of wounded veterans, and her romantic passages are sensitive, caring and tasteful. I enjoyed reading Two Hearts Surrendered, and I highly recommend it.
Reviewed by Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite Two Hearts Surrendered by Tamara Ferguson tells the tale of two hearts who met again and surrendered to their passion and love. Luke Bryant was just 13 years old when he met little Kelly Callahan. He saved the little girl from drowning and that was when the two formed a friendship that lasted years. First, there was friendship, then came attraction, but Luke was always hesitant to act on his attraction to Kelly and when he joins the armed forces things go back to simmer. However, when he returns for the wedding of Kate, Kelly’s sister, they meet again and the two of them share a passionate night. But he has to go back to fulfill his duty to the Air Force. He returns as a wounded warrior, he is broken from the inside and out. And now it is Kelly’s turn to take what she wanted since she was a little girl. Neither Luke’s battered body nor his resolve will keep her away. She will love him with all she has and make him hers, forever. Two Hearts Surrendered by Tamara Ferguson was an instant hit with me. I’m a sucker for a good military romance and this one topped the charts. I really loved the way every single thing was written and introduced. I loved Luke and his intensity and I loved Kelly and her innocent disposition. She knew what she wanted and brought Luke’s walls down. He literally caved and sagged into Kelly because of his past trauma and heartbreak. The two shared a bond and strength that allowed them to be a couple that I would love to read more about. A great military drama/romance that makes you want more.
Reviewed by Tracy Slowiak for Readers' Favorite Wow. Just wow! How’s that for a review? Well, that’s what I’ve got for the fantastic new novella by author Tamara Ferguson, Two Hearts Surrendered. Follow the story of Air Force pilot Luke Bryant and the lovely Kelly Callahan. Their meeting was certainly eventful as Luke, as a 13-year-old, saved 6-year-old Kelly’s life after she almost drowned. Now, fourteen years later, Luke is at home and meets Kelly again, this time finding a beautiful 20-year-old young woman. Instantly drawn to each other, they have only a few hours together before Luke has to return to duty. And later, when Luke returns from Iraq, seriously wounded, Kelly’s faith isn’t shaken; she’s sure they are still meant to be together. Luke can’t get over his thoughts that Kelly would be better off without him, and tries to turn her away, but Kelly won’t give up on him. Their journey is certainly not an easy one, but will it end up in the love they both truly want? You’ll need to read the book to find out! I so enjoyed Two Hearts Surrendered. Author Tamara Ferguson has done an absolutely wonderful job in creating characters that her readers will relate to, care about and continue to think of long after the novella is done, and if that isn’t the hallmark of a great author, I don’t know what is. Any reader who enjoys a fantastic love story should absolutely read Two Hearts Surrendered. I highly recommend this novella, and am very much looking forward to reading more from author Tamara Ferguson as soon as possible!
