Two-Man Advantage by Toni Aleo

Wells Lemiere knew the moment he saw Matty Haverbrooke, he had to have him. Matty was quiet, he was talented, he was beautiful, and Wells couldn't stay away.

As the youngest and most talented son of the NHL Commissioner, Matty had found the burden of family expectations almost too heavy to carry on even his broad shoulders. He had no intention of getting involved in a relationship with Wells. But the heart he'd given up for dead had other ideas.

Their affair was intense and overwhelming, but when Matty couldn't bring himself to come out and admit he wanted a public future with the man he loved, Wells had no choice but to honor his vow to live openly...and leave Matty behind.

But then he learns Wells is marrying another, and Matty knows he can't let that happen. Can he throw down his gloves and embrace his future with both hands? Or will he pull the door to his closet shut once more?

I can’t believe this is Toni Aleo’s first M/M novel, this second chance love story blew me away. A second chance at love but this story is about so much more, it’s about accepting who you are even if your family won’t, it’s about redemption and it’s beautifully written. It has the perfect mix of love, laughs and angst and I was hooked from the first page and it was a book I read in one sitting but I think I will have to go back and read again because I feel you will get so much more from this true love story if you take the time to savour it. We were given a bit of Wells Lemiere and Matty Haverbrookes Story in In The Crease and I was so excited when I found out they were going to get their own book, I needed to know more about these two guys, I needed to understand the struggles and fights they had to get their HEA and this author gave us just that, she described the hurt and the pain as well as the laughter and the love these two shared so beautifully. I do think you will get a lot more from this book if you have some knowledge of where these guys fit into the mix, Wells is Wren’s brother and best friend to Jensen (In the Crease) and he is also best friends with Vaughn (Delayed Call), Matty is Avery’s brother and son of the NHL Commissioner (Hooked by Love), Wells believes being gay shouldn’t affect his or Matty’s Hockey career but convincing Matty that it’s ok to come out of the closet is another thing. #LoveisLove and love isn’t always easy but sometimes it’s worth the flight. I hope I have done this book justice, I found it hard to put my thoughts on paper. I can’t express how much this book touched my heart. Loved it great job Toni Aleo.

Another fabulous story from Toni!! Love is love and who doesn't love a good love story? Toni's books are never long enough for me and don't come out fast enough!! I only wish there was more hockey and maybe some catch up with more of our favorite players and their families in this book. As a past hockey player and now hockey mom I love how accurate/knowledgable Toni is about the game. I've read many hockey series and some authors just shouldn't write about what they don't know or are passionate about. But not Toni, I own every one of her books and can't wait for what's next!! Thank you Toni!! Keep them coming!!

Two Man Advantage Stunned!! Speechless!! You pulled it off. You made me fall in love with Matty, but I had total faith in you. This book is full of complex, strong, and crazy characters. There is no sugar coating, you can feel the intensity of of Matty's and Wells' love and fears through every word. The interactions between Matty and Avery and Matty and his father are gut wrenching. There also some crazy moments when Wren, Jensen, Vaughn, and Brie show up. My finger was hoovering the page so I could turn it quickly because I could not read it fast enough. Matty Haverbrooke ruined his relationship with his twin sister because of his jealously and secret and misses her terribly. Months ago he lost Wells Lemiere because he could not come out to his family and the world. Now Wells is marring someone else and Matty needs to make a decision come out or lose Wells for ever. Wells stills loves Matty but he won't hide who he is. Marring Alex is what he needs to do. So when Matty shows up at his wedding he has a decision to make.

3.5 stars Two-Man Advantage is an emotionally charged read. The book is well-written and the flow is good, but it's a bit more on the angsty side than I care for. Matty is young and in the closet while the older, more experienced, Wells is out and proud. That's where the problem starts for this pair and where it continues for most of the story. I did love the wedding scene and thought, but found it a bit hard to believe that no one present would out Matty. Matty's waffling, while understandable, made me want to both hug him and shake him, often at the same time! The book did hold my interest and is a solid first in the genre for the author, just a little too much angst for my tastes.

When offered the opportunity to read the ARC of this novel, I debated about whether or not to try it. I don't usually read M/M romances. Please don't get me wrong - I have read plenty of novels with gay characters in them and some with, ahem, unusual sleeping arrangements (Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series make polyamory seem tame), but I don't think I've read a novel that focused strictly on a gay romance. So why volunteer to read this? I love Toni Aleo's writing - her Assassins series is a favorite - and she's a local / hometown author. What's the verdict? I liked it - maybe not quite as much as Aleo's Assassins series, but it was still good. The romance itself is set in the 'Assassin universe' - there are plenty of characters that we've seen in the series, including Matty and Wells. They were supporting characters in a previous novel and now we get their story. They're both NHL players for different teams. Wells is 11 years older than Matty and is more secure in his sexuality. Matty is in his early 20s and he's not as likeable as Wells. He's closed off and controlling and still hiding his sexual preference from everyone - especially his family and his teammates. Why? Well, besides being a hotshot star in a testosterone-filled sport, he's the son of the NHL commissioner and his relationship with his family is already strained due to an incident that occurred with his twin sister a few years earlier. When the novel opens, Wells is confronting Matty in front of his family's home. It leads to a break-up, but when Matty find out that Wells is about to get married, he realizes that he's been an idiot. The action that follows is hilarious! But for the most part, the novel is pretty serious as Matty has to deal with coming out to his family and eventually to his teammates. It's not easy - there are several bumps along the way - but even in the M/M world, there is a HEA. This was different - and while I'm still more of a fan of traditional romances, it was a good read. Please be warned, however, that there are some graphic / steamy scenes between the MCs - so if that offends you, then you may want to pass this by. But if you can keep an open mind, you might find you like i

This review is for an advanced review copy. It is my unbiased, honest opinion. 4.5/5 Stars Toni Aleo has done it again! Two Man Advantage is a standalone M/M romance novel that takes place in Aleo’s beloved Assassins universe. Matty Haverbrooke and Wells Lemiere are professional hocky players. They have a passion for the sport and for each other. However, because of Matty’s fears and family, their relationship was forced to come to an end. It takes Wells’s upcoming marriage to make Matty see that their relationship is worth the risk. This book picks right up where In the Crease (Assassins Series #12) left off. It is the story of Matty and Wells’ relationship through triumphs and, at times, seemingly insurmountable challenges. If you are looking for a book with extensive character and relationship development, look no further. Wells and Matty’s relationship is one of true and realistic love. Relationships are not easy and this couple is no exception to that rule. However, because of their struggles the characters and relationship grow stronger. I was a little apprehensive going into this book because of what I had learned about Matty in previous books. However, it did not take long for him to begin to grow on me. If you have read other books in the Assassins world, such as Hooked by Love, do not skip this book. Matty has a story that deserves to be heard and this book explains so much about not only Matty, but the entire Haverbrooke family. As with Aleo’s other novels, readers get to learn more about the lives of previous leading couples, such as Jace and Avery. I had a very hard time putting this book down and finished it within one day. The story was exciting and realistic, both of which are hallmarks of Aleo’s writing style. Whether this is your first experience with Aleo’s work or you are already a fan, Matty and Wells will become one of your favorite couples.

**Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review** I've been a fan of Toni Aleo's books for some time and I was excited that she decided to try her hand at a M/M novel. I'm so happy to say that she did a fantastic job with it and I was very impressed. Wells Lumiere and Matty Haverbrooke are both NHL players and both are gay. They've been in a relationship for some time, however Wells is out and proud, but Matty is having more difficulty with coming out. It's complicated due to the fact his father is the Commissioner of the NHL and he knows he's not going to handle it well. When Wells finally levels an ultimatum that he wants to be completely out with Matty, the relationship ultimately ends when Matty just isn't ready. Fast forward in time and Matty learns that Wells is about to marry someone else, it spurs Matty into action and he seeks out his former flame on his wedding day. Will Matty make it to the church in time? And, if so, will the two of them be able to navigate the rocky waters that will certainly be presented when Matty finally confesses to who he really is? What I loved about this story is the fact that we had an already established couple and they were dealing more with the external influences on their relationship rather than whether or not they were in love and wanted to be together. It was a different take and it was refreshing. I enjoyed both Matty and Wells and having their families involved was a great treat as well. This story kept me engaged from the start and I look forward to whatever Toni offers up to us next!

Matty loves Wells as much or more than he loves hockey. For a hockey player, that is enough in itself. Until family creates a divide and he must choose. Wells wants more with Matty than he can have, apparently. He wants it all. With Matty running scared from outside interference, Wells wonders will he ever get his happily ever after? This is such a great story. Well written and going at a great pace. The angst is real, the heat is super smoking hot, and the feelings jump off the page and grabbed me. I cannot wait to hear more about these guys in upcoming books! ***This ARC copy was given in advance for an honest review.

Toni Aleo, I don't know how you do it... This book had me all twisted up inside. You gave me the butterflies, the sadness, tears, and dare I say soooo HOT. Good Lord! If you were worried about this being your first MM book, honey you killed it! This book was incredibly written. So much emotion. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. You make me fall in love with all your characters. I was anticipating this book and boy did you deliver. Beautiful story line. Absolutely wonderful. Matty has totally redeemed himself from Hooked by Love. I am so happy the story went that way cause I love Wells. I absolutely loved every word. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to everyone. I'm so sad I finished it so quickly, but I couldn't put it down. Please don't make us wait long before we are graced with another fantastic book.

Two Man Advantage was wonderful. I loved Wells when I met him in Delayed Call! Matty was probably the worst person ever in Boarded by Love. Toni Also brought these two very different men together and established the greatest character turnaround ever. Matty totally becomes likeable in this book. It shows that the love of a good man makes anything possible

Toni Aleo lights the lamp with TWO MAN ADVANTAGE. I had been looking forward to reading Wells Lemiere’s and Matty Haverbrooke’s story ever since I finished IN THE CREASE (Assassins #15). Wells is the BFF of Assassins’ Jensen Monroe and Vaughn Johansson (DELAYED CALL, Assassins #13). IN THE CREASE was Jensen and Wells’ sister, Wren’s book. They were attending Well’s wedding to another man, which Matty objected to at the end of their story. Needless to say, it made for an interesting twist for TWO MAN ADVANTAGE. Matty is the son of the NHL Commissioner. He is also in the closet. He is afraid to come out to his family. Wells is tired of being kept a secret. This story is suitable for adult audiences. I love both Wells and Matty. Matty is the twin brother of Avery, who is married to Jace Sinclair HOOKED BY LOVE (Bellevue Bullies #3). I didn’t like him in that story, but his character came a long way and did a lot of soul searching. What he did to Avery was horrible. He regrets his choices. He struggled with knowing he was gay and feeling like he had to hide it. For good reason, not all his family is supportive. My heart went out to him. Wells is a great guy. He is ten years older than Matty. He is in a different place in his life. The two have numerous obstacles to overcome. They make each other better people. TWO MAN ADVANTAGE was full of meaningful substance. The story was compelling and entertaining throughout. It had interesting twist and emotional outcomes. You can read TWO MAN ADVANTAGE as a standalone, but I love the Assassins and Bellevue Bullies series so much, I would suggest reading them first. All the characters are amazing and knowing the back stories makes TWO MAN ADVANTAGE even better. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
