Kassia is a mind blower (she has the power to cause severe pain and even cause death...only by using her mind). WOW! What would you do with powers like that? She doesn't know how to control her powers or her that is a bad combination to have. Kassia attends the Glendale Institute. It is a school of gifted individuals who learns about their powers and how to use them. Kassia's friends all have different powers, and they learn to work together as a team. Miya is Kassia's best friend, they have been together for 6 years. They are together all the time, so they have built a strong friendship. Her friends, Mira, Daxton, Noe, Auralee, and Zane all have unique powers and little do they know; they are going to need those powers to get rid of the demons that are after Kassia. When Mira is attacked.....the friendship is pushed to the limit. Kassia is infuriated and wants to get back at the people who did this to her best friend. Why are the demons after Kassia? What do they want with her? Will she and her friends be able to stop them before they anilate the world? When Kassia learns what she must to in order to stop the demons, it is something that is not taken lightly. Will she be willing to give the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect the ones she loves and even the world? Dive into this will no be disappointed. This story contains so much emotion that I could not put the book down. The author held me captive throughout the book, and I wound up finishing it in one day. I can't wait to read the next book. I can definately say that I will read this book more than one time.

I really enjoyed reading The Ultimate Sacrifice. Some of my favorite books has a school/campus setting. So yes this is now on my favorites list. This is about friendship and just what you will sacrifice for those you care about. Kassia lives at the Glendale Institute, a school for the gifted. All the students here have some kind of special gift or power. There are mind readers, dreamers, compellers and ones who can see the future. Then there is Kassia, a mind blower, someone who can cause pain and kill with just her mind. She hates her gift because most of the students are afraid of her and she doesn't want to hurt her anyone if she gets angry. Kern, a head demon is determined to kidnap Kassia and turn her against the world. Kassia and her friends set out find a way to keep her safe. Will Kassia make the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends? This for me was an interesting read, I loved how the author brings so many different elements into the story. Friendship, romance, action and of course all the cool gifts. It was also an emotional story, I laughed and was sad right along with the characters at times. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. This e-book was given to me by the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.

The Ultimate Sacrifice (The Gifted Teens Series 1) By: Talia Jager ISBN: 2940012446725 Published May 19, 2011 Available Format: ebook My Rating: ????? It's pretty cool being a teen with a supernatural gift-that is unless you have the power to inflict pain with your mind and you can't control it. That's exactly the situation in which sixteen-year-old Kassia finds herself. Kassia enrolls in a special school for gifted teens and subsequently meets her new best friend, Mira, and a pretty awesome love interest, Daxton. When Mira is brutally attacked off campus, Kassia rescues her but finds that her power is much more dangerous than anyone knew. And, she's caught the interest of some truly devious demons in the process. Now, she and her friends must leave the institute and try to stop the demon forces before they get out of hand. Will Kassia be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to save them all, or will she succumb to the evil that seeks her out? I really enjoyed The Ultimate Sacrifice a bit more than Talia's other books I have read so far (I have one more which I'm working on right now!). I think that's because it is fantasy and has less to do with real life, which I find I like to avoid at all cost whenever possible. Ha! I love the way this story is structured. I love the characters and the fact they each have these special abilities and work together so well. They complement each other not only in their powers but their individual personalities as well. There was such honest and interesting chemistry between them, especially Kassia and Daxton. (I think his gift was my favorite!) There were bits and pieces of the writing that I felt could have been cleaned up a little. Sometimes the characters thoughts go off on a little tangent or at least wander off enough to be distracting from the action. I do think Jager did a better job of building up to a more definite climax in this story, and I am sure that the fantasy element played a huge role in that. I think writing from first-person point of view actually limits a story sometimes, so it really helped that she switched up who we heard from (Kassia, Mira, etc.) so we got a more rounded story. I'd love to see Talia write something from a different point of view in the future. Overall, this book was a lot of fun, well thought out, and fresh and interesting in the world of SO much YA paranormal romance! Jager is a fantastic and talented storyteller, and I look forward to following her work for years to come.

I'm sick of hearing about vampires and werewolves. Now, the thing is zombies. But, I'll admit it, I have a soft spot for heroines with superpowers (I may be biased), which is Jager's fresh take on the young adult paranormal genre in "The Ultimate Sacrifice". This book struck me at the core and I don't usually read YA. It's intense nearly from beginning and all the way to the end. It is hard, fast, and brought tears to my eyes several times. Her protagonist, Kassia, is infinitely likeable, particularly for anyone who understands what its like to be outcast (and to have a temper you can't control!) I fell in love with the love interest and Kassia's best friend reminded me of my own. I highly recommend this book to anyone who adores young adult and the paranormal.

I really enjoyed this book. The friendship between Kassia and Mira was very touching. The book was fast paced and kept me up late at night to finish. Action, Romance and let's not forget the demons.

Would you give "The Ultimate Sacrifice" to protect the ones you love?? All the students at the Glendale Institute are "gifted." This story focuses on Kassia, a mind-blower, one who delivers pain with her mind and can even cause death. Her friends, Mira, Daxton, Noe, Auralee, and Zane all play equally important roles as they come together to stop an army of demons from taking over and everyone being destroyed by them and their evil leader, Kern. Come along as Kassia learns how to perfect and control her talents after a terrible crime was committed against her very best friend. Unfortunately that might be enough and whe is left with only one way to make things safe aagain for her friends. Will she put herself totally at risk to save them? Will her demise be enough to stop the evil that threatens their survival? This keeps you going, page by page, because you can't put it down til you see what happens next. This was definitely an interesting and enjoyable journey. This is not my usual genre of choice, but I do admit that I really liked this story. This author really makes these characters come alive and conveys thier individual feelings in such a real manner that they are easy to relate to. I would highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a good read! This book was graciously provided to me by it's author for my honest review.
